The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 7/20 – Mirabelle Skipworth & Nick Wiesner / Zach Pietrini
July 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Mirabelle Skipworth, who grew up in Chicagoland Illinois, is now local to Pittsburgh and plays regionally as a solo singer-songwriter and with a band. Her 5-piece band, “Mirabelle Skipworth and The Brink Of ” is self proclaimed “alt-folk”. Her folk-inspired melodies and lyrics with the alt-rock influence of her band makes for a dynamic, emotionally-intense experience. She occasionally draws on her own experiences, but often draws from books, concepts, and other people’s stories. Her album, Paraphrased in a Poet, was released Spring of 2019, her EP, The Catalyst Has Called, was released Spring 2020, and her album, Postcards From Patmos released Dec. 12th 2020. Her most recent EP, “The Tables Trill” released Nov. 12th 2021. Her new EP, “The Morning’s Malaise”, was released March 2023.
Zach Pietrini’s Midwestern, indie-americana songwriting aesthetic is the sonic embodiment of a well-worn denim jacket. At the forefront of the Americana resurgence, the band takes its cues from Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and David Ramirez, reinterpreting and rejuvenating American roots styles through a contemporary lens. Pietrini came up on the Chicago music scene before moving to Milwaukee, where he honed his signature “foot-tapping and pensive steel-guitar-driven” style (Milwaukee Magazine). The band has also toured prolifically throughout the United States, including opening for Huey Lewis and the News and playing SXSW. Pietrini’s dynamic live performances are intimate, yet high-energy, and his laid-back stage presence brings a very Wisconsin sense of genuine friendliness to his shows.
