Kidstuff Live – 6/8 – Kofi Mawuko

June 8 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Event Navigation

Come, bang, shake, dance, and sing-along with African percussionist Kofi Mawuko!

A native of Ghana West Africa, Mawuko began learning traditional rhythms at age 10. He traveled extensively throughout the world as a lead dancer and master drummer with a Ghanan-based performing company that toured internationally in the 70s and 80s. In the late 1980s he settled in London where he taught music and dance at local schools and composed songs and plays for local theater groups. His musical compositions were selected for production in the African historical theater festival in the first African Emancipation Day celebration held in Ghana.

He relocated to the United States in 1998. He performs either solo as percussion accompaniment for diverse musicians or with his own band Ogya. He first met kids host Sean McCollough when they were both in residence at a local Knoxville school. He has performed on Kidstuff once before, and his drumming appears on the Kidstuff theme song.
