The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 8/3 — Laurelyn Dossett / Sam Mooney
August 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Singer/songwriter Laurelyn Dossett lives and writes in the piedmont of North Carolina, and her songs tend to reflect the stories of the region, both traditional and contemporary. One of the most sought-after voices in creative collaborations, she co-founded Polecat Creek with singing partner Kari Sickenberger in 1997. Laurelyn is a frequent performer at regional music festivals such as Merlefest and has been a guest on the radio show Prairie Home Companion. She has toured with folk legend Alice Gerrard and songwriter Diana Jones, and premiered composer Kenneth Frazelle’s song cycle, “Songs in the Rear View Mirror,” in 2010, and has toured with the North Carolina Symphony in 2009 and 2011 and 2013.

Sam Mooney is a musician from Mississippi, and he considers himself fortunate to have the privilege of making music for others.
For as long as he can remember, few things have brought him as much joy as music. Whether it’s going to a show, playing piano, or jamming to music in the car with friends, he simply loves it. Naturally, a life working in the music industry became the dream he decided to chase.
Over the last several years, Mooney has spent most of his free time on the road playing shows. During that time, he has been blessed with some amazing opportunities. He has opened for and shared the stage with some of his favorite bands and musicians, recorded and released three projects, and traveled around the country performing. Most importantly, however, he has made countless new friends along the journey.
His hope is to write music that will speak into people’s lives. Music that will bring joy. Music that will serve as a soundtrack to whatever lies ahead on their journey. His goal is to put on fun and exciting shows that allow audiences to escape into a special musical experience and make great memories. And, hopefully, he’ll get the chance to meet them at a show sometime.
