About UT Appalachian Strings
UT musicology faculty and local Knoxville musician, Sean McCollough, created the first-ever UT Appalachian string-band ensemble in the spring semester of 2022. By spring of 2023, one student band had grown into two. The two current bands play mostly bluegrass – though one of them includes some modern Americana songs in their repertory. Sean’s hope is that there may be enough interest in the future to also have an old-time band, an Americana band and perhaps even a country band.
