La Terza Classe was born in Naples in October 2012; the street were the place where the project formed and had its first achievements, and where the band started to produce music and shows playing traditional and modern American and European folk songs: from Bluegrass to Dixieland, also called Early Jazz, up to Jug Band songs, combining each one of the styles with typical Neapolitan “theatricality”.

In 2014 the band made a first EP, “Ready to Sail”, which sold more than 2000 copies thanks to the intense and constant live performances n several countries. In May 2016 the second studio work came out, “Folkshake”, which included 8 new tracks and one original song; this work was realized together with “Ad Est dell’Equatore” publishing house, and is distributed on Amazon, Spotify and iTunes.

Over the years La Terza Classe has had the chance to continue studying the roots of the music they play and for this reason the band has performed in many European countries (Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands) and especially in the United States , which they toured in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019; the band has been featured on many American radio shows (one of them being the famous “Blue Plate Special” , live on WDVX radio in Knoxville) and had the honor of playing for four years in a row at “Music City Roots” in Nashville,TN, and on the stage of the famous “Bluegrass Underground”.

In 2015 the band participated at the “Bluegrass Contest” in the town of Anderson, S.C., and won second place and had the opportunity to perform on the Main Stage of the “Boograss Bash Festival”, together with internationally recognized artists like Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Rhonda Vincent and Flatt Lonesome. Along with its music activity, La Terza Classe has had the chance to feature in several italian television programs produced by Sky Arte: “On the Road with Joe Bastianich” and “Fotografi”; it has also recently been featured on the 2016 edition of “Italy’s got Talent”.

The original tune “Paulina” and a cover of the famous bluegrass standard “Rollin’ in my sweet baby’s arms” have been used as a soundtrack for some commercials. La Terza Classe has also produced a documentary “Flat Tyre – An American Music Dream”, which shows the story of the first trip to the USA that led the band to discover the roots of American folk music. The documentary, directed by Ugo di Fenza and edited by Paolo Ielpo, won the 2016 edition of the Napoli Film Festival and the jury’s special mention at the Salento International Film Festival 2017.

On Oct. 2018, the band released the new EP called “La Terza Classe” with 4 original songs, produced by the italian label Polosud Records and is distributed on Amazon, Spotify and iTunes. On Nov. of the same year the band toured the United States, 28 shows all around the East Coast to promote their new record.

On March 2019 the band perform at the incredible SXSW festival in Austin, TX and, at the end of the same year, a new U.S. tour with 29 shows and a showcase at the Contact East Festival in Canada.

After the Covid-19 restrictions a new musical collaboration start with the very famous TV showman Joe Bastianich; togheter they share the common passion for folk/bluegrass/alt-country music and so they decide to release a record with all original songs called “Goodmorning Italia“, published by the italian label Soundinside Records. During the 2022 summer Joe & La Terza Classe have perfomed avout 35 shows around Italy in some of the most important music festivals of the country.

During 2023 the band with Joe Bastianich released a new EP named “Silverado”.
