Her passion for music and languages has led her to take her Global\, Local & Homemade Songs™ across the United States and around the globe. \nAmong her ancestors\, Elise claims “Wedding March” composer Felix Mendelssohn and his grandfather\, Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn; Protestant cow farmers from northern Germany; Russian chemists; Polish intellectuals; French Bordeaux wine growers; a British painter; and a great great aunt from Cuba. \n \nGood songwriting matters to all of us whether we know it or not. It tells the truth in a way that keeps us all moving towards something better. When songs become laundry lists and trend chasers\, they become nothing and so do we. \nTim Chandler is a songwriter dedicated to telling that kind of truth in song in an out of the box way. Combining his influences of bluegrass\, country\, and folk\, his music is drawn from life in work\, family\, and frustrations with songs that don’t say anything. \nGrowing up a preacher’s son in Western Kentucky\, Tim’s first exposure to music came through the traditional hymns that made up every service. Now\, his influences range all over the board\, drawn from the places and people he has worked with\, roamed with\, and written with. From West Coast cover bands to Rocky Mountain forestry crews\, swampy Florida factory floors to construction sites in Alabama. Now\, he wants to share those stories with you. \nTim currently shares his music on a regular basis and has played everywhere from Florida to California to New Jersey – with multiple features on local radio shows and music festivals – including the award winning “Blue Plate Special” on WDVX. This day Miss Lynn will be joining us! \nSome Very Good Words to Describe Miss Lynn: \nIDEALISTIC: On the day 9-year old Lynn Hickernell was selected as captain of a gym class kickball team\, she knew just what she would do: the first members chosen for her team would be the classmates who\, like her\, were usually picked last. As the teams assembled\, she ignored the quizzical facial expressions and continued to select smaller\, less-coordinated 4th graders\, instead of the stronger\, faster students who quickly made up the opposing team. She knew that her team might not be obvious victors\, but if they worked together\, they could show the other team what they could do–which turned out to be lose. Badly. By a score of approximately 25 to 0. And while it wasn’t much fun to lose that spring morning\, many years later it made a good story. \nUNPRETENTIOUS: Miss Lynn knows we are all still learning (she even wrote a song about it)\, so she’s not worried about telling stories to try and make herself look cool. The fact that she thinks being cool is overrated is one of the driving forces behind the music she makes and The Good Words Podcast. \nZEALOUS: She loves so many things! Music! Doughnuts! DESCRIPTION:Pete Denahy knew when he was 11 years old he wanted to be a country singer. He taught himself guitar\, started writing songs and at 13 years old saw Slim Dusty in concert for the first time. Twelve years later he was in Slim’s band playing fiddle and doing a comedy spot on the show.\nWhile he has written some ridiculous comedy songs\, he is no stranger to writing a heart wrencher\, but he is fully aware that his songs about insects and toilet paper hold special places in the hearts of his fans.\nHis latest record “She Loves Me To The Moon” is not a comedy release but a traditional country album featuring his own fiddle playing\, twangy guitars and wailing pedal steel. Produced by Simon Johnson at Hillbilly Hut Studio\, it includes fine playing by some of Australia’s best and a collection of new tracks penned with help from the Wolfe Brothers\, Mike Carr\, Bill Whyte and Evan Murphy.\nPete is a five time Golden Guitar winner and is very happy to have won three of those for his fiddle playing – an instrument that has kept him in work for many years. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, thousands of people flock to the city of Nashville with hopes of “making it”. Ironically\, it wasn’t until Zach Russell made the decision to leave Music City\, USA that he inked his first record deal with Thirty Tigers. The drive back home may have only been three hours long\, but Russell’s journey back to old haunts in Eastern Tennessee isn’t quite that cut and dry. \nIn the 7 years preceding that trip down I-40\, there were stints as a manager at a shoe store and a karaoke host. He calloused his hands installing irrigation systems and working as a carpenter. He traveled the US and Europe as Tyler Childers’ merchandise manager and got to witness firsthand what it takes to chase down greatness. Through it all\, one thing that remained constant was his belief that he could chase it down as well. \nMusic has always played a pivotal role in Russell’s life. A background in Baptist and Hymnal music as a youth and a taste for hip-hop\, rock\, and country music informed his musical style between 2016 and 2020 as he found his footing. In 2021 the world received its proper introduction to Zach Russell as a fully formed artist with the release The Creek. This five-song EP proved not only to be a landmark release in Russell’s career\, but with its lyrical depth\, soaring instrumental jams and infectious melodies\, it served as proof that this landmark was merely the first of many to come. \nSince moving home and finding clarity\, the past 18 months have been busy for Russell. He spent those months writing music\, touring with The Alex Leach Band\, and delivering a guest appearance on Adeem the Artist critically acclaimed album\, White Trash Revelry. That wave of momentum has culminated to this moment\, and the release of his highly anticipated full-length debut\, Where the Flowers Meet the Dew. \nOnce again joining forces with up-and-coming producer Kyle Crownover (Adeem the Artist)\, this ten-song effort never takes its foot off the gas pedal. Dominant themes of wrestling with mortality\, pondering reincarnation\, and finding that ever elusive feeling of contentment in this life weave gracefully through. \nAs the old saying goes\, “Big hitters take big swings.”\, and Russell’s choice as the first single is as bold a statement as can be made. Coming in at a shade over seven minutes long\, “Born Again” begins as a rockabilly banger\, then midway through\, via a psychedelic segue it morphs into a funky\, groove heavy jam. Russell sings of reincarnation and hints that perhaps every waking moment is\, in fact\, an opportunity to start anew. \nThe first half of the record is filled with traditional waltzes (“I Thought I Was the Trees”\, “Take Me Back to Tennessee”)\, haunting electric folk (“What You Want Comes to You”)\, and 60’s R&B style (“Milk & Honey”) cuts. Its deep\, mellow\, and the lyrics are contemplative. It draws you in while not letting the listener get too comfortable. \nBeginning with the aforementioned rip-roaring lead single\, the back half of the record brings with it an altogether different vibe. Greasy\, distorted guitar licks pepper the back half of Where the Flowers Meet the Dew. “Playing House” fully displays his creative dexterity\, and would be right at home on a post-grunge rock radio station\, circa 1998\, sandwiched between Matchbox 20 and Third Eye Blind numbers. Later\, on “Nothin’ to Haul”\, he boldly calls out the posers and wannabes that fill the Nashville scene.

The songs are about faith\, relationship\, wildlife and art. \n \nTexas-based rock singer-songwriter Mark Winters is many things; a witty poet\, passionate musician\, entrepreneur\, optimist\, family man\, and a bonafide rocket scientist. He first picked up a guitar to play a song for his wife on their anniversary. That’s when he discovered the joy of connecting with people through music. DESCRIPTION:Chris Wilhelm is known for bringing positive vibes and an uplifting message to his audience. He plays Americana\, folk rock originals that are infectious and insightful\, and sprinkles in covers too. Worldwide airplay brought his latest album “This Too Shall Pass” to be one of the Top 100 Alt-Country Albums of 2020\, and it spent several months on the national folk charts as well. \nChris Wilhelm is a songcatcher and live performer. He made guitars out of cardboard before getting his first one at 13. Born in Hudson\, NY\, he later moved to Albany\, NY\, then Boston\, and currently lives in Asheville\, NC. He has released nine records and played thousands of shows. He has performed in theaters\, concert venues\, festivals\, clubs\, bars\, libraries\, retirement homes\, subways\, performed on the street and even played at a marathon. He played over 200 shows a year for several years. \nIn 2000 Chris played his first open mic and has been performing live and recording ever since. He’s performed thousands of shows from the subways in Boston to venues up and down the East Coast. \nIn 2004\, Chris released his first album\, “McKinsley Steel” – it is well loved by many of his fans and includes classic songs such as “Travellin’ on Down” and the title track. \nIn 2005 he released an album called “This Train’s Not Going Slow.” It reached #3 on Boston’s 88.7FM WERS radio charts\, and he played shows in many Boston venues including Club Passim\, etc. \nIn 2008 Chris did his first solo tour\, down to New Orleans and back to Boston. He released his second studio album\, “Glory\, Filth and Fame.” \nIn 2010 did his second solo tour down South with his Dad\, fell in love with Asheville\, and ended up moving there that year on a “one month trial basis.” He lives there to this day. He released a Kickstarter-funded CD called “Just Asking.” \nFrom 2012-2015 he played 225 shows a year as the singer-songwriter for The Wilhelm Brothers. They released two studio albums with Henry Hirsch\, producer of Lenny Kravitz\, Madonna\, etc.: “Lay Your Burden Down” and “The Sea of the Unwritten.” They also released live album “Like a Bird.” \nSince 2018 Chris has been playing to bigger audiences at larger venues such as the Isis Music Hall\, The Grey Eagle\, Highland Brewing. He now plays solo\, with a rotating cast of musicians. \nDuring the 2020 pandemic\, he wrote and recorded “This Too Shall Pass” which debuted on the folk charts and is being played on radio stations around the world. \n2021 saw the online release of “Joseph’s Garage”- 12 new home demos recorded on a Tascam 4-track tape machine. Inspired by the Bruce Springsteen album\, “Nebraska\,” which was recorded on similar equipment.

The ability to make music is firmly infused in his genes\, courtesy of a family history that implanted that ability in him early on. \nWhile he modestly describes his sound as a “humble slice of Americana\,” it’s clear that it possesses so much more. With a style that encompasses country\, folk\, roots\, rock\, R&B\, and pure pop proficiency\, he defies easy categorization. With a rich reservoir of original tunes — over 300 in fact — and three well received albums (Blue Sky Rain\, Matthew C. Axton and Badmoon)\, he’s established himself as a prolific and proficient singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, both on his own and at the helm of his various ensembles. \nEven a small sampling of his musical output proves the point. His current single\, “Blue Sky Rain\,” the title track of his current album\, is both stirring and seductive\, an easy amble that belies its description of the topsy turvy travails that accompany the entanglements of relationships. \n“Born of Chains\,” culled from Badmoon\, is flush with steadfast determination\, a rugged\, relentless bluesy-rocker that conveys clear conviction and a desire to overcome whatever obstacles are tossed in his way. \n \nWake The Dead – California singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and producer Chuck Prophet’s new collaborative album with Cumbia group ¿Qiensave? – was released on October 25th through Yep Roc Records. \nAn extraordinary and unlikely pairing\, Prophet and ¿Qiensave? blend seamlessly together as the collection dives headfirst into the world of Cumbia music\, which consumed and comforted Prophet during a recent bout with stage four lymphoma and subsequent recovery. They also shared the album’s lead single and title track “Wake The Dead\,” an anthem that reckons with forces beyond our control while learning to let go\, a recurring theme at the core of the album. \n“I never want to be a downer\,” stated Prophet. “This record doesn’t shy away from darkness\, but it always feels hopeful. When I was growing up listening to The Clash and their flirtations with reggae\, the thing I remember most is how the music hit me\, how it made me feel. The more you listened\, the more was revealed\, but on the most fundamental level\, those records just felt good\, and that was really important to me with this album.” \nProphet’s fascination with Cumbia music began after experiencing a weekly Cumbia night at a local haunt of his in San Francisco’s Mission district. He quickly became obsessed: collecting old vinyl from Latin America\, studying its origins\, DJ’ing\, and loading his friends up with new mixes every time they came to visit. After he was diagnosed\, he had a lot of time to just sit and listen as he went through treatments. “I was going through a tunnel\,” he recalls. “It was dark. But I had music: music to play\, music to listen to\, music to get me out of my head. Music was my savior.” More than any other genre\, Cumbia served as a faithful musical companion and reprieve during his immunotherapy and chemotherapy. \nOnce he was finally feeling better\, Prophet started driving out to Salinas on a regular basis to jam with a group he’d fallen in love with called ¿Qiensave?\, a band of brothers from the Central Coast farming community. The sessions came together on a whim\, for the sheer fun of it at first\, but Prophet soon invited the band to back him up at a couple of live shows\, and the immediate reaction from audiences made it clear they were on to something special. \nProphet and ¿Qiensave? hit the studio soon afterwards\, where they blended with his longtime backing band\, The Mission Express\, to track the heart of Wake The Dead live on the floor. It was chaotic at times\, cramming as many as eight musicians into the same studio space\, but they prioritized gut feeling over sonic perfection and allowed the undeniable energy of the performances to guide them. \nThe result is a profoundly adventurous celebration of life that balances hope and fear in equal measure\, a rich and exultant meditation on what really matters from an artist who always manages to find the light\, even in the face of the most oppressing darkness. Prophet approaches the style not as an academic or historian\, but as a fan with a voracious appetite and an insatiable curiosity. The songs are intoxicatingly rhythmic\, all but demanding you move your body while you listen\, with arrangements that blur the lines between tradition and innovation\, between past and present\, between cultures and countries. There are flashes of rock and roll\, punk\, surf\, and soul\, all filtered through the streets of San Francisco and wrapped up in the rich legacy of a genre that traces its roots back hundreds of years and thousands of miles.
