Silly Grandpa, the brainchild of two-time, Grammy nominated writer and artist, Michael ‘Supe’ Granda, is proud to offer his sophomore disc, ”Lucky Number”. On the heels of his 2017, ”Chicken in the Yard”, “Lucky Number” contains ten silly, new songs for children.
Alongside co-producer and guitar wizard, Joe Davies, the two entered Joe’s Basement Studio and emerged with, yet another excursion into their silly worlds.
Once again, Supe has assembled his Silly Grandpa Band, a tight group of serious musicians to play his music and interpret his whimsy. Calling on his Nashville Cat friends – that have played with John Fogerty, Poco, June Carter Cash, Loretta Lynn, Bobby Keys, Burrito Deluxe, the Blue Buccaneers, Dr. John and NRBQ – the songs are silly, but the grooves are serious.
“The whole disc doesn’t even span thirty minutes”, Supe observes. Ten songs in less than thirty minutes – well suited for kids? That’s fine with me. Playing for little kids is a blast. They don’t care if you forget a lyric, or not. All they want to do is dance around, clap their hands and act silly – kinda, like me”.
“Becoming Silly Grandpa was easy”, Supe sites. “I was always the goofy kid, who loved goofy songs, like “The Purple People Eater”, “Rubber Biscuit” and “Surfin’ Bird”. The sillier the song was, the more I liked it. Now, as a song-writer with six grandkids, it’s fun, writing little songs, with funny messages for them. Basically, I just became a silly grandpa”.
Silly Grandpa’s motto? “We’re serious about our silliness”.
