An Extra Helping of the Blue Plate Special – The Pine Box Boys “Dog Named Death”

They got away with murder – and the audience loved it! The Pine Box Boys brought their unique brand of music to the Blue Plate Special stage – not exactly bluegrass—more like “bloodgrass.” Lester T. Raww started the Pine Box Boys in 2003, originally planning to perform new versions of old murder ballad classics like “The Knoxville Girl,” and “Fair Eleanor.” Soon, however, he found he was composing his own murder ballads. This song, “Dog Named Death” is from The Pine Box Boys’ latest release, “The Feast of Three Arms” which came out in April 2016. Chris Henry and the Hardcore Grass stopped by the Blue Plate stage recently before their gig at Scruffy City Hall. This tune featured one of the band members, Dr. Brent Lamons, on banjo. Brent’s “day job” is at the University of Tennessee right here in Knoxville. When Dr. Brent is not exercising his PhD creds, he picks a mean version of “The Bugle Call Rag”. Chris Henry – Mandolin
Pat Hoeper – Fiddle
Brad Benge – Bass
Merle Johnson – Guitar
