SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate — 9/4 — Jay Clark
DESCRIPTION:Although Jay Clark went to college for 11.5 years and has a PhD in wildlife ecology\, he somehow ended up striking a balance between careers in music & science.  Jay grew up in Winchester\, Tennessee\, near where the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau crosses from Tennessee into Alabama.  His dad was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister for 42 years.  His mom an English teacher.  Church played a huge roll in Jay’s upbringing.  It was in the church where Jay learned to sing & in the mountains where he felt closest to God.  Jay wrote his first song in 1990.  He didn’t know how to play guitar\, so he taught himself to play in order to put music to his first song.  That song was the first of many. \nJay has been a staple in the East Tennessee music scene for more than 20 years.  During his college years\, Jay not only trapped & conducted research on black bears in the Smokies\, but also played in a couple of different bluegrass bands\, most notably a brother-style duo with Keith Garrett (currently of The Boxcars) and later in a bluegrass band\, The Stringbeans\, with Robinella and Cruz Contreras (currently of The Black Lillies).  Since releasing his first record in 2004 (Pen to Paper)\, Jay has supplemented his career as a scientist with performing his songs across the Southeast & southern Appalachia.  Presently\, Jay plays a number of his shows with his band\, Jay Clark & the Tennessee Tree Beavers\, which features Greg Horne on lead guitar & Daniel Kimbro on upright bass.  Jay recently released his fifth recording\, Of Mountains & Heartbreak (2016).  He still uses the other side of his brain as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at Maryville College.  Jay resides in the foothills of the Smokies on 31.5 acres in Rockford\, TN\, with his wife\, Stacy\, and their pack of rescue hounds.

SUMMARY:First Friday Live — 9/4 — Handsome and the Humbles
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 4 / 6:00 – 7:00 PMKnoxville Visitors Center\nFREE!\nJoin us for our next First Friday Live presenting Handsome and the Humbles! Our Maker this week will be Susanna Rouse with The Lettering Loft!\n\nBio:The best songs\, the thinking goes\, are the ones written from real-life experiences\, but those experiences sometimes exact a heavy toll.\nJosh Smith\, the singer and songwriter for Handsome and the Humbles\, knows that all too well. “Alt-Country\,” the new album by the Knoxville-based Americana outfit\, is built on a foundation of loss that knocked the gregarious and affable frontman to his knees … but in so doing\, gifted him with a record that smolders like the orange coals of a once mighty conflagration.\n“None of these songs are really about my dad\, but the sadness I experienced from his death\, as well as the loss of my marriage\, is pretty much the foundation of this album\,” Smith says.\nIt’s a profoundly intimate affair\, evolving from the skeletal framework of scribbled lyrics in the dead of night and rudimentary chords on an acoustic guitar. Upon those bones\, Smith and guitarist Josh Hutson began to bring the record to life in Hutson’s garage (affectionately nicknamed “The Ding Don Den”) using an iPhone interface to record everything but drum tracks on three songs.\n“I’d lay down an acoustic track\, he’d do electric\, then I’d do bass and vocals\, and we’d go back and do background vocals\,” Smith says. “They started sounding better than we anticipated\, so we just decided that since it’s so hard to get everyone together\, we’d just release what we have.”\nAlong the way\, they migrated to professional studios and recording spaces\, adding band members (guitarist Marcus Balanky\, former-and-sometimes-fill-in drummer Lauryl Brisson) and friends (drummer Kris “Tugboat” Killingsworth\, organist Matt Coker) to sculpt the tracks into a fully realized new record.\nThe finished creation is both warm and familiar and a startling departure\, made evident by the opening track “Be Around.” Ruminations on friendships during those dark times buoyed his spirits and inspired the shimmering ambiance that owes as much to the Flaming Lips as it does to any alt-country touchstones to which Handsome and the Humbles compare.\nAnd yet those touchstones remain … polished in ways that are a direct result of the musical intimacy shared between friends who first shared a stage together as teenagers. On “Now I Know\,” Hutson plays a guitar-slinging foil every bit as adept as Nels Cline to Smith’s Jeff Tweedy\, stomping through a swirling maelstrom of regret over the end of the latter’s marriage: “When everything means so much\, nothing means anything\,” he sings\, bone-tired weariness hanging on every syllable\, regret tinging every chord.\nThat regret lingers on “Nice Things” – “you’d think by now I’d be better than this” are the words of a man still coming to terms with a profoundly life-changing experience\, and once again Hutson’s fretwork serves as Smith’s North Star through the foggy remnants of remorse.\nHere’s the thing about “Alt-Country\,” though: Smith’s stories might burn like straight whiskey\, but the music is the sweet fire of bliss that follows. Whether it’s Brisson on sticks giving “Fades Away” a “D’yer Mak’er”-style groove or Coker coaxing “Exile”-era Stones juju on a song like “You Walked Away\,” there’s joy to be found in this collection\, if for nothing else than the simple fact that pain fades and the sun always rises.\nLight\, Smith has learned over time\, is always on the horizon\, somewhere in the distance\, guiding a path through the darkness. That’s a theme that Handsome and the Humbles have championed since the band came together around an EP titled “Hallelujah\, Alright\,” the capstone of which\, “Knoxville Lights\,” was a shambling rock ‘n’ roll homage to the cityscape as seen from a weary traveler crossing the mountains. Two full-length records followed — “Have Mercy” and “We’re All the Same\,” along with another EP (“400 Cigarettes”) a couple of years ago.\n“Alt-Country” is a continuation of the band’s journey to places “both frightening and stunning\,” as Smith croons on the new record’s final track\, “Returning to You.” And as that song fades\, he assures us: “When I’m alone\, my heart keeps returning to you.”\nIt seems natural to assume he’s talking about the loved ones he’s lost along the way\, but there are greater forces at work here\, made evident in the beauty carved from the granite face of pain:\nHe’s returning to the light\, and the fans and bandmates and opportunities that music has always provided\, and we are all the better for it.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/5 — Joe DeVita / Benjamin Lamb
DESCRIPTION:Joe DeVita was born in New York December 30\,1978. At the age of 16 he began playing guitar and hitchhiking throughout the United States. Joe is a graduate of the Musicians Institute\, and attended the New School. Since his self released album in 2005\, Joe’s music has been featured on BBC6 Radio\,\, Planet Weekly\, Skope Magazine. Life experiences\, growth\, reinvention\, as well as furthering his musical abilities as songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has remained one of the driving forces in DeVita’s work. From Hardcore Punk to Jazz\, Joe presents a wide cast of characters with very singular narratives\, attempting to introduce the listener to ideas from all walks of life. \n \n\n\nBenjamin Lamb a home grown native East Tennessean with an old soul and roots deeper than any holler. Singer\, songwriter keeps to his roots of ol’ Appalachian\, camp fire\, front porch picking\, southern Baptist story telling like you’ve never heard. Stories of LIFE! A life he’s lived with hard times\, good times and everything in between. A “have to listen to” artist guarantees listeners will relate to one or more stories of a life. A definite go to for some hollers from a holler!! While it’s hard to catch him action at the moment (besides TikTok) he’s currently a full time blue collar factory time puncher\, family farm hand\, homesteader\, husband and father. But with the support from his “southern belle” wife and children\, Benjamin Lamb’s music has been “racing like a forest fire” – Ginseng Grave

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/8 — Mark Winters / Toria Richings
DESCRIPTION:Texas-based rock singer-songwriter Mark Winters is many things; a witty poet\, passionate musician\, entrepreneur\, optimist\, family man\, and a bonafide rocket scientist. He first picked up a guitar to play a song for his wife on their anniversary. That’s when he discovered the joy of connecting with people through music. Mark combines music\, poetry\, a science background\, and love for his community to form his signature sound\, “rock with a positive vibe.” \nHis musical roots are in rock\, blues rock\, and pop\, and John Mayer\, Tom Petty\, and Jason Mraz are significant influences. “My music starts from a place of poetry and creative inspiration\, and I use my ‘rocket-scientist brain’ to find structures that help me explore that initial burst of inspiration and feeling – like writing haikus\, my favorite! My grandmother taught me to express myself through poetry and I’m thankful to her for setting me on this creative and expressive path.” \nMark has a degree in Aerospace\, Aeronautical\, and Astronautical Engineering\, and his math and science background guides his musical explorations. He likes taking complex things such as emotions and expressing them in a way that’s easy to understand. Balancing his right-brained creativity with his analytical left-brain is part of a life-long journey; music is one more place where he can explore this balance. \nSince his debut album “Slipstream” in 2019 he’s garnered numerous positive reviews\, has been placed on hundreds of playlists\, and racked up over a million streams worldwide. He’s poised to continue this success with his sophomore album\, “Boundary Layer.” Boundary Layer showcases the intersection of Mark’s scientific mind and his passion for positivity and good works. This album is a tribute to those who have helped Mark break out of life’s “normal” boundaries and pursue the person he was meant to be. His goal with this new record is to inspire others to break through barriers in their lives and to use emotional connections and energy to move in the direction they were meant to go. Scientifically\, a boundary layer is the place on an object in a moving fluid where things can either start moving or stand still. \nHe and his beloved wife have always had compassion for people in the world and believe it’s important to give back to your community. Mark enjoys mentoring entrepreneurs like himself\, and donates a lot of his time to philanthropic organizations throughout the Houston area. \nEach song on his first album is an emotional story about his life’s journey’s. Slipstream is the stream of air behind any moving object\, usually in the context of making the effort of moving behind someone easier for everyone\, like birds flying in a v-formation flock. This is the feeling Mark experienced while working with the incredible musicians and producers who helped create the album. “Musically\, the songs on SlipStream run the gamut from straight guitar-based classic rock to bluesier jams\, pop metal\, Beach Boys-type ballads\, and psychedelia. There’s even a mini-rap in one number.” – The Houston Press \n \n\n\n\nInspired by the raw honesty of Neil Young’s Harvest and the timeless voice of Joan Baez\, Toria Richings picked up a guitar at 11 and never put it down. What began as learning chords quickly became songwriting using music as a way to tell stories\, process emotion\, and connect with others. \nBorn in the north of England\, raised in the Cotswolds before making her home in Sydney\, Australia\, Toria honed her craft playing pubs and intimate rooms\, developing a signature storytelling style rooted in honesty and lived experience. A pivotal turning point came following the loss of her mother\, when a gifted studio session became a form of healing\, leading to her debut EP and the beginning of her journey as a country-roots artist. \nNow an award-winning Americana songwriter\, Toria has built a growing international presence\, showcasing at major industry events and forging deep creative ties within the Nashville community. Known for songs that balance resilience with vulnerability\, she writes music that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. \nWith each release\, Toria invites listeners into stories shaped by heart\, grit\, and the belief that music has the power to carry us through life’s most meaningful moments.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/9 — Matt Axton & Badmoon
DESCRIPTION:Matt Axton is a gifted singer/songwriter. Granted\, that’s a claim made by many artists that inhabit the world of Americana these days\, but in Matt’s case\, it’s more than a mere boast. The ability to make music is firmly infused in his genes\, courtesy of a family history that implanted that ability in him early on. \nWhile he modestly describes his sound as a “humble slice of Americana\,” it’s clear that it possesses so much more. With a style that encompasses country\, folk\, roots\, rock\, R&B\, and pure pop proficiency\, he defies easy categorization. With a rich reservoir of original tunes — over 300 in fact — and three well received albums (Blue Sky Rain\, Matthew C. Axton and Badmoon)\,  he’s established himself as a prolific and proficient singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, both on his own and at the helm of his various ensembles. \nEven a small sampling of his musical output proves the point. His “Blue Sky Rain” is both stirring and seductive\, an easy amble that belies  its description of the topsy turvy travails that accompany the entanglements of relationships. “Born of Chains” is flush with steadfast determination\, a rugged\, relentless bluesy-rocker that conveys clear conviction and a desire to overcome whatever obstacles are tossed in his way. On the other hand\, “Everything” is an homage to romance\, desire and faithfulness shared with some upbeat bluegrass banter. Here again\, Matt demonstrates his remarkable fluidity and a decidedly affable attitude. \nNotably\, he also keeps good company. Matt has recorded original material with Steve Ferrone (drummer for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) and Hal Cragin (bassist for Iggy Pop)\, and shared sessions at the legendary East West Studios in Hollywood where Tom Petty recorded much of his work. The songs include: “Last Search”\, a Southern rock-style anthem; “Born of Chains\,” which shares a  sparse and dark singer/songwriter vibe; the Americana style “What a Day”; the soulful strains of “Soul to Sell” and “The Big South”\, a blues groove reminiscent ZZ Top. \nHe has collaborated on projects such as “Abbey Road Reimaged – A Tribute to the Beatles” where Aaron Badgley of Spill Magazine called Axton’s cover of ‘Octopus’ Garden’ “pure genius.” \nAxton tours nationally playing large festivals and iconic institutions as well as opening up for acts like Midland\, Paul Cauthen\, Jim Lauderdale\, and Nikki Lane. The verve and versatility underscore the fact that Matt is a master of many motifs. \n“Matt’s powerful songwriting and vocals\, along with his natural rapport with the audience\, was the highlight of the 4th of July celebration where we hired him to play for the 3\,500 people at Donner Lake\,” said Ben Martin\, executive director of the Tahoe Truckee School of Music and Tahoe Music Professionals booking service.

SUMMARY:WDVX Summer Nights - 9/9 - The Jason Carter Band / The Asheville Mountain Boys
DESCRIPTION:WDVX Summer Nights\nWednesday\, September 9\, 2026 | Doors 6:00 PM | Show 7:00 PM\nYee-Haw Brewing\, Knoxville\, TN\nFREE | All Ages \nWDVX is proud to present another night of free live music on the big stage at Yee-Haw Brewing for the 2026 Summer Nights concert series! \n  \nIn Lloyd\, Kentucky\, on U.S. 23\, there’s a sign on the Country Music Highway dedicated to renowned fiddler Jason Carter. It was placed there because of his other accomplishments—the Grammy awards\, the worldwide tours\, and the many other accolades he’s earned through his music. But for Carter\, joining the legendary names honored on that stretch of highway just might mean the most. “There’s a certain sound that’s up there that you just don’t hear anywhere else\,” he says. “I think that played a big part in how I sound today.” \nTrue to those Kentucky roots\, Carter continues to pour all he has back into bluegrass. For thirty years\, he has been the fiddle player for the Del McCoury Band—the most awarded group in bluegrass history. He’s won three Grammy awards\, including 2018’s “Best Bluegrass Album” with the Travelin’ McCourys\, of which he is a founding member. And he’s taken home five IBMAs for “Fiddle Player of the Year\,” a staggering number that isn’t quite so crazy once you realize just how many bluegrass greats have turned to Carter for collaboration. \nAs a fiddler\, Carter has been featured on albums by Steve Earle\, Ricky Skaggs\, Dierks Bentley\, Charlie Daniels\, Vince Gill\, Asleep at the Wheel\, and many more\, all in addition to his tireless touring and recording with Del as well as the Travelin’ McCourys. On Carter’s forthcoming solo album\, Lowdown Hoedown\, listeners may recognize instrumental contributions from such legends as Jerry Douglas or Sam Bush alongside vocals from young trailblazers like Sarah Jarosz or Billy Strings. This time\, though\, Carter is singing lead. \n  \nBy their name\, you know where they are from\, and by their sound\, you know what they are about. The Asheville Mountain Boys are on a mission to capture not just the style but the spirit of traditional bluegrass. Asheville\, NC has long been known for great music and its roots in bluegrass go back to the founding of the genre (Bill Monroe’s first broadcast performance as the Bluegrass Boys was at Asheville radio station WWNC in 1938) A group that firmly stakes its claim to the tradition of the music from the area\, The Asheville Mountain Boys spring onto the scene with a thought\, ”What happened to bluegrass?” It’s not a disparaging one that condemns current styles in the genre but rather asks\, “Why do we love this music in the first place” and answers with an approach that is true to the originators of the genre in the sense of both style and philosophy. Bluegrass is raw emotion\, excitement\, drive\, and authenticity. It is not sanitized or compromised but a reflection of the lives of those who play it. It’s storytelling that follows a throughline of tradition. \n  \nThanks to our sponsors: Yee-Haw Brewing\, ORNL Federal Credit Union\, and Garza Law. \n

SUMMARY:Here Come the Mummies with The Jaystorm Project — 9/12
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nHere Come the Mummies is an eight-piece funk-rock band of 5000 year-old Egyptian Mummies with a one-track mind. Their “Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave” is sure to get you into them (and possibly vice versa).\n\nSince their discovery\, HCTM has been direct support for P-Funk\, Al Green\, Mavis Staples\, KC and the Sunshine Band\, and Cheap Trick; rocked Super Bowl Village; become a regular on The Bob and Tom Show; appeared on That’s My Jam with Jimmy Fallon; played massive festivals like Summer Fest\, Summer Camp\, Bluesfest Byron Bay\, Musikfest\, and Suwannee Hulaween; and sold tickets by the thousands across large swaths of North America. Maybe that’s why the ladies (and some dudes) can’t stop losing their minds over these mayhem-inducing mavens of mirth.\n\nSome say they were cursed after deflowering a great Pharaoh’s daughter. Others claim they are reincarnated Grammy-Winning studio musicians. Regardless\, HCTM’s mysterious personas\, cunning song-craft\, and unrelenting live show will bend your brain\, and melt your face. Get ready! Here Come The Mummies.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/15 — Xanthe Alexis with Ben Matthews / Richie Owens with Bob Ocker
DESCRIPTION:Xanthe Alexis is unmistakable for her powerful voice and enchanting lyrics. The singular aura of magic surrounding her is a reflection\, in equal measure\, of her birth in the Superstition Mountains in Mesa\, Arizona. Her childhood was steeped in the mysticism of blended cultures and gave her a passion and sensitivity for the unseen world of Spirit. Her Mother introduced her to the likes of Linda Rondstat\, Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald at an early age. She began writing songs just before her beloved sister died of heart disease. This gave Xanthe an additional window into the depth of pain and the need for a language in which we can speak the expanse of human emotion. \n \nNashville may be known around the world as Music City USA\, but anyone who lives there knows the real roots of the music are not always found under the brightest lights. \nIf you want authentic\, roots-driven Americana — the kind built from family\, faith\, fables\, bloodlines\, hardship\, humor\, and old mountain truth — you need to find the room where Richie Owens is playing. \nRichie Owens did not come to Nashville chasing a version of country music. He was born into it. \nA fifth-generation Appalachian musician\, storyteller\, producer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist\, Richie grew up surrounded by the sounds of East Tennessee\, the Smoky Mountains\, old-time gospel\, early country\, folk ballads\, mountain blues\, and the working-class stories that shaped American roots music. His family history runs deep through the same soil that gave the world Dolly Parton\, Tennessee mountain music\, and the lasting traditions of Appalachian song. \nRichie has toured the world as a member of Dolly Parton’s band\, performed on major international stages\, produced and recorded with legendary artists\, and worked across music\, film\, and storytelling for decades. But at the heart of what he does now is something more intimate\, more personal\, and more powerful: carrying the story of Appalachia forward.

SUMMARY:J2B2 (John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band) — Clayton Center — 9/15
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nJ2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary\, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar\, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo\, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship\, incomparable songwriting\, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. \nJorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California\, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John’s band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson’s guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nHerb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician\, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman\, Earl Scruggs\, Gram Parsons\, Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Stephen Stills\, Linda Ronstadt\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Jackson Browne and John Denver. \nMark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He’s toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks\, Alan Jackson\, Travis Tritt\, Dwight Yoakam\, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton\, as well as producing many artists in jazz\, country\, bluegrass and gospel genres. \nPatrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin and banjo\, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in “The Mighty Wind.” \nJ2B2’s debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. The album was recently released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition\, 3-CD box set called DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records)\, which has received vast critical acclaim. DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 – From The Crow’s Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet – Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson – Gifts From The Flood(instrumental electric guitar). \nIn addition to recording their first album as a group\, J2B2 has played several major tour dates over the course of the past two and a half years\, including tours of Norway and the UK\, performances at the annual RockyGrass Festival in Lyons\, Colorado; the Joe Val Festival in Framingham\, Massachusetts; and headlining the Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain\, Colorado\, three years in a row. J2B2 made its Grand Ole Opry debut in October 2013 and has returned several times to the Opry since. \nJ2B2 has created quite a buzz\, and The International Bluegrass Music Association is among the many giving the newly formed band’s live performance high marks. In a review\, the IBMA noted\, “There was warmth\, and storytelling\, and lots of laughter as this fresh band of legends made their debut…but with their expertise combined\, you would think they had been playing in this configuration for years.” \nYes! Weekly in Greensboro\, NC has noted of J2B2: “Expect fireworks and amazing playing from some of the best string players in the world.” \nLearn more at johnjorgenson.com.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/16 — Lance Cowan
DESCRIPTION:Lance Cowan carves stories from the quiet moments others overlook. His music fuses Americana’s raw edges with folk’s intimacy and roots-rock’s steady pulse\, creating soundscapes where every note serves a purpose. His lyrics cut through sentimentality with surgical precision—conversational yet carefully crafted\, revealing truths about relationships and identity through specific\, unembellished details. \nCowan’s songwriting demonstrates remarkable restraint\, trusting listeners to find meaning in what’s left unsaid as much as what’s explicitly stated.  Live performances showcase his understated mastery—no theatrics\, just a man with a guitar creating space for songs to breathe. Cowan’s work embodies a rare commitment to substance over style\, proving that the most powerful stories don’t need to shout to be heard.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/17 — Wiser Time / Cody Gentry and The Buffalo Show
DESCRIPTION:Carmen Sclafani\, professionally known as Wiser Time\, is a vocalist\, songwriter\, guitarist and producer from New Jersey\, USA. His work has received recognition for it’s soulful vocals and musical style which consists of concept albums that blend rock\, Americana\, blues and folk influences. Wiser Time’s debut album was There And Back Again (2006)\, followed by All For One (2008)\, Beggars And Thieves (2010)\, XII (2012) and Within (2017). Following the release of the EP\, “Worlds Collide\,” in 2020\, Wiser Time released the 7-track album titled\, “All Fired Up\,” in 2024. \n\n\nWiser Time was formed in 2001 by singer/songwriter/guitarist\, Carmen Sclafani\, in the small town of Millington\, New Jersey\, USA\, just outside of New York City. He had been working in art and design during the days while performing in coffee-houses and clubs of New Jersey and New York during the evenings\, becoming a fixture in the local music scene. \nSclafani wrote and recorded material that would eventually become Wiser Time’s first full-length album\, “There And Back Again\,“ in the fall of 2006 with producer Anthony Krizan (Amphibian\, Lenny Kravitz\, Spin Doctors). The album was received well and radio stations began playing it while Sclafani continued to perform throughout the New Jersey/New York area\, as well as stops across the United States to the California coast. \nWiser Time’s second full-length album\, “All For One\,“ was recorded and released on February 1\, 2008 and was a raw and emotional album that was heavily influenced by the weight of the times. Jerry Ewing of Classic Rock Magazine wrote\, “It’s fluidly enjoyable stuff…rocking hard\,” * giving the album 7/10 stars. \nSclafani also spent time exploring some of his earlier folk work\, and was inspired to write and record a selection of stripped-down songs including the acoustic ballad\, “Looking For Bob Dylan“ and the emotional “What You Give – Unplugged.“ \n \nCody Gentry has found his voice and honed in his skills in every music hall\, bar\, and coffeehouse he has played\, with his only intention being to connect his music with the people listening. Cody has spent the last five years playing music around the southeast\, all the while listening\, studying\, and seeking what every writer needs: Inspiration. The road for inspiration took Cody back to his home\, the vibrant and often perilous foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. \nWith a desire to pay homage to the foothills and the storytellers of his youth\, Cody recorded his first album\, Blue Ridge Gold. This debut album was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dean Miller. Blue Ridge Gold is set to release this year\, of which two singles have been receiving radio airplay on satellite and terrestrial. The album tackles subjects of love\, hearbreak\, victory\, and vindication through clouds of fiction and reality. Cody now travels with two bandmates\, of whom are multi-instrumentalists and lifelong friends. Performing as a three-piece band\, Cody Gentry has crowds singing along while focusing on the carefully crafted lyrics of his songs.

SUMMARY:Son Volt — Live at the Bijou — 9/18
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAfter spearheading the alt-country movement with Uncle Tupelo\, Jay Farrar pursued his vision with Son Volt\, who recorded three landmark albums in the ’90s before the groundbreaking artist put the band on extended hiatus and cut three solo LPs. Missing the free exchange of ideas and the surprises that inevitably occur when a group of simpatico musicians lock together\, Farrar assembled a new lineup of Son Volt in 2004 and has since released nine albums. The latest album\, Sound Signal Serenades\, was released as a special 2026 Record Store Day limited edition LP. Jay Farrar’s work often seeks out the ghosts of America’s discordant or forgotten past\, converses at length with them\, and writes songs that stake a claim to a better future. \n— \nThom Jurek at All Music said it best\, “Only Gram Parsons‘ term “Cosmic American Music” begins to touch her mercurial\, changeling roots aesthetic\, … McNally is a Zen-like\, post-Beat song poet”. For those who have followed McNally’s nearly twenty year career the thing that most sticks with the listener about her\, is the timeless effortlessness that she brings to all she does. With a long catalog and longer list of peers with whom she has written\, recorded and toured\, McNally continues to turn out great music that defies blatant genre-fication. \nAt home across the American (Americana) music spectrum\, the Grammy nominee who’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990’s with bands like Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks\, writes as well as she interprets the songs of others\, has a top tier musicality to her craft\, a soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour’s wanderlust\, not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an excellent electric guitar player. \nLike her anti-hero heros J.J. Cale\, Tom Waits\, Bob Dylan. Dr. John\, and Jim Dickinson\, McNally knows who she serves. She serves the song. Her quiet but steady plodding through the many layers of the business of music\, hasn’t ever been rewarded with massive fame and fortune but in time that slow burn has become the treasure in and of itself. \nThe part of McNally’s narrative that is often missed is that not only has she self-managed herself for nearly all of her career but that she has also been a stout warrior-like-artist who often went toe-to-toe with label heads and A&R to defend and fight for her visions. She left the major label world after ten years at Capital/EMI to fend for herself on various smaller labels and self-release paradigms. Perhaps the business of music is finally catching up with her independent spirit. We shall see.

She also worked in film and fashion\, collaborating with acclaimed directors and major designers. Yet despite success in multiple worlds\, music remained her true north. \nRecording and touring for years under another name\, she scored a Billboard #1 and toured/supported legendary and contemporary artists alike (Kenny Loggins\, Counting Crows\, Train\, Donovan\, Shawn Colvin\,Todd Rundgren)\nHer music lives at the crossroads of folk-americana\, laurel canyon and classic country\, shaped by personal history and stories to tell. The album Shadowcatcher \, made in Nashville with producer Joe Pisapia (KD Lang/Ben Folds)\, marked a turning point toward her most authentic voice\, and most recently\, new recordings at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals\, AL produced by Dylan Le Blanc\, will start releasing in 2026.

SUMMARY:Summer Sessions - 9/19 - Shawn Camp / Verlon Thompson / Madelyn Tallent
DESCRIPTION:The event is free\, and takes place at the Museum of Appalachia in Clinton\, TN! Have some fun with The ORNL Summer Sessions! \n  \nShawn Camp began playing guitar as a small child\, growing up outside Perryville\, Arkansas. Mandolin and fiddle followed\, all before he could drive. He remembers dreaming of melodies\, waking up\, and being able to play them. “I just always loved music. It’s been my everything\, really\,” Camp says. “My dad worked out of state\, so we moved around a lot. Whenever we’d go somewhere\, I’d carry a stack of records and a little record player with my guitar. Music was my only constant––that\, and my mom and dad.” \nA prodigy who never knew how to be anything but\, Camp moved to Nashville at 20\, and found early gigs playing with the Osborne Brothers\, Jerry Reed\, Alan Jackson\, Shelby Lynne\, and Trisha Yearwood. Then\, he really started writing––and singing with sly grace\, smooth but earthy. Camp released his first solo album\, Shawn Camp\, on the Reprise (Warner Bros.) label\, but found his biggest success as a songwriter\, penning hits for Willie Nelson\, Garth Brooks\, Brooks & Dunn\, Josh Turner\, Blake Shelton\, George Strait\, and many others. He became a trusted collaborator of John Prine\, Loretta Lynn\, and of course\, Clark\, with whom he wrote constantly\, and toured occasionally. When Clark won a Grammy in 2014 for his final album\, My Favorite Picture of You\, Camp took home a statue as one of the record’s producers. In 2015\, Camp took home another Grammy\, this time\, as lead vocalist for bluegrass supergroup the Earls of Leicester. \nSongwriters seem to flourish on the fertile Oklahoma plains. Woody Guthrie\, Roger Miller\, Leon Russell\, J.J. Cale and Jimmy Webb. Add Verlon Thompson to that list. \nThirty years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour serve as credentials. As a solo performer\, and as the trusted sidekick of Texas Americana songwriting icon Guy Clark\, Verlon has viewed the world from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma). \nAlong the way Verlon Thompson compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson\, Dierks Bentley\, Anne Murray\, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Kenny Rogers\, Randy Travis\, Del McCoury\, Sam Bush\, Trisha Yearwood and many more. \nVerlon has co-produced Guy Clark’s Grammy nominated cd “Cold Dog Soup” as well as “The Dark”\, “Workbench Songs” and “Somedays the Song Writes You”. \nEqually important in his songwriting and live performances\, Verlon’s guitar work cannot go unnoticed. His guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart\, Pam Tillis\, and many more\, including\, and especially Guy Clark. \n  \nMadelyn Tallent is a singer/songwriter particularly loving the folk/Americana side of country and some southern rock. \n  \nSupport for WDVX comes from ORNL Federal Credit Union!

SUMMARY:Buffalo Traffic Jam — Mill & Mine — 9/20
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nBuffalo Traffic Jam is a folk band born in the heart of Bozeman\, Montana\, where its members\, Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross\, first crossed paths as students at Montana State University. The result was a self-titled debut EP followed by singles “Rescue Me” and “Forgot Your Roots\,” the latter of which saw the band gain their first bit of online momentum\, leading to explosive growth in the past year. SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/23 — Will Wesley & Florian Fox
DESCRIPTION:Will Wesley is a Country Rock and Americana artist. A storyteller whose sound blends a soulful edge with country rock energy into heartfelt storytelling. Born in Baker\, Louisiana\, Wesley was raised with a rebellious spirit and a love for music inspired by his father’s guitar. By age 15\, he was sneaking into bars to perform with a beat-up six-string and a fire that would soon define his music career. \nHe paved his path in the Baton Rouge blues scene\, performing and touring alongside with legendary figures. He served as Grady Champion’s Music Director for five years. His talent earned him two International Blues Challenge regional victories and a reputation as one of Louisiana’s fiercest young guitarists. \nBut Wesley’s journey took a turn when life’s hardships — including personal battles and deep loss — pushed him toward a new musical path. Drawing inspiration from artists like Hank Williams\, Marty Stuart\, Garth Brooks\, Jason Aldean\, and Eric Church\, he began merging his blues background with the modern energy of country rock and americana. \nIn 2021\, Wesley released his breakthrough album\, “Both Sides Of The Tracks.” The record featured 17 original songs\, including “A New Kind of Blues” (feat. Kern Pratt)\, “Leah” (feat. Michael Cleveland)\, and “Attitude”\, which reached #1 on the Euro Academy of Country Music Charts in Milan\, Italy. The project marked his official crossover from blues prodigy to full-fledged country-rock and americana artist. \nTragedy struck in January 2021\, when Wesley lost his brother Daniel Dale to a drug overdose — a loss that became the emotional core of his 2024 single “12 O’Clock in Texas\,” his most personal song to date. The single’s heartfelt storytelling and raw emotion struck a deep chord with fans around the world. \nWesley followed with “The Search” (2024) and his latest single\, “Bottom Of The Bottle” (October 2025) — a powerhouse track with a harder rock edge that’s rapidly gaining momentum and airplay. \nToday\, Wesley tours across the U.S.\, Europe\, and Southeast Asia\, performing everywhere from intimate listening rooms to international stages\, including the Switzerland International Country Music Hall of Fame and the Jackson\, Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. \nHe shared stages with many including Alabama\, RVSHVD\, Jason Boland & the Stragglers\, Redd Volkaert\, When In Rome\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, Scotty McCreery\, Hailey Whitters\, and shared international stages with Swiss Rockabilly Star – Florian Fox\, collaborating on Will’s singles\, “Wasted Again” and “Time’s Catching Up To Me.” \nIn recognition of his accomplishments\, he received seven nominations for his song\, “Ready To Ride” at the 2024 Josie Music Awards. In addition\, he received five nominations for his songs “12 O’Clock in Texas” and “The Search” at the 2025 Josie Music Awards. Both within Nashville\, Tennessee. \nDespite the road miles as a devoted Worldwide Touring Troubadour\, Wesley returns home to Louisiana in-between tours for hometown shows\, staying true to his roots and fans. Known for his humility and heart\, he continues to give back by performing at Veterans’ events and outreach programs — bringing the healing power of music to those who need it most. \n \nFlorian Fox is the “Swiss guy of the hour”. With his neo-traditional country style\, Florian Fox (34) has played his way onto some of the most renowned festival and club stages and into the heart of the US music metropolis of Nashville in roughly five years. He has been honored with both the Swiss cultural award “Prix Walo” and a certificate of recognition from the U.S. Congress. Florian Fox performed at the Hallenstadion in Zurich in March 2026 and is a special guest on Brad Paisley’s current “Truck Still Works World Tour.” \n2020\, Florian ventured to the music metropolis of Nashville\, where he recorded his first solo album “Made in U.S.A” with U.S. star Chuck Mead (BR5-49\, Musicians’ Hall of Fame) and shortly afterwards recorded an EP with original members of Johnny Cash’s band. Since then\, his career has taken a steep rise: In 2024\, he released his first live album on Swiss national television\, became a voting member of the US Country Music Association (CMA) and won a Texas Sounds Int. Country Music Award for “Entertainer of the Year” as well as a certificate of recognition from U.S. Congress. In October\, after an extensive tour through the States\, he performed at the legendary CMA Theater of the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate — 9/25 — Still Moves
DESCRIPTION:Still Moves isn’t just another band – they’re a sonic journey born in a basement studio in Clarksville\, Tennessee. What started as a musical friendship between Lucian Greene and Isaac Frost quickly evolved into something magical. They teamed up with Ben Colling and Bo Hunter for the first project. Their debut EP “Henry\,” a heartfelt tribute to their late piano/sax player Henry Rives\, dropped in April 2022 and set the stage for their unique Rock/Americana/Psychedelic sound. Completely self-produced in Isaac’s 1419 records basement studio\, the band’s raw and authentic approach caught people’s attention. \nTheir second EP “Until” followed in March 2023\, showcasing their growing musical chemistry. But the real game-changer came when Cody Kirby (drums) and Dalton Akins (bass) joined the lineup\, transforming Still Moves from a duo into a full-throttle live powerhouse. Their self-titled album\, released on August 30th\, 2024\, captures the electric energy of their expanded lineup – a testament to their journey from basement jam sessions to a dynamic Americana/Rock & Roll band. Cage Riot called the self-titled album\, “a genre-bending masterpiece.” Later that year Michael Davidson joined the group on organ/keyboards\, and completed the band’s full lineup. The second album “Roots” was just released on November 21st on all streaming platforms. Go give it a listen! \nBut to really get the full Still Moves experience\, you need to check them out live. They are a force to be reckoned with on stage with an energy that’s hard to describe.  At a small dive bar to a large festival  stage\, an acoustic to a full-blown Psychedelic Rock jam\, you’ll be sure to get the same level of passion and energy in every performance. Check out their busy show schedule by clicking on the “Shows” tab\, and find a date to see it for yourself!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/28 — Teni Rane / The Paula Boggs Band
DESCRIPTION:Inside of Teni Rane’s songs\, you’ll likely encounter Appalachian songbirds\, white oaks\, and wildflower fields. These are just some of the earthly delights that surround her home in Chattanooga and dance through her music. Her debut album\, Goldenrod (2024)\, pays tribute to her favorite native plant’s “charismatic yellow self” and highlights the ways we too can sway through the shoulder seasons of our own lives. As a songmaker\, Rane likes to wade in the undertow\, through the deeper currents of loneliness and longing that churn below the surface of our days. Glide Magazine raves that she’s an “up-and-coming Americana winner along the lines of Sierra Ferrell.” \nRane grew up in the American South\, disconnected from her mother’s Armenian culture\, heritage\, and language. As she sings\, “I don’t know which way to turn or how to be\, there’s too much debris when identities collide.” Often feeling caught between worlds – neither fully Armenian nor totally at ease in Southern American culture – music became a compelling avenue to help make sense of her unique identity. It is no small wonder that her forthcoming album\, Never Turning Back\, orbits themes of kinship\, homesickness\, and the precarity of our human-made environments. Rane is a cartographer of the heart – capturing the many ways it breaks and breaks us open. An intense (over)thinker\, her songs ask questions about what makes a home and how we discover our place in the world. The album ranges from geographical adventure narratives like “Leaving You Behind” and “Arkansas” to tracks like “As I Walk Home\,” written in an existential haze at 2am about our imbalanced world. \nCat-like\, Rane lives many lives. In addition to making music\, she played semi-pro soccer on Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea; earned a Bachelors in chemical engineering; and teaches yoga and mindfulness. As she tracks the wooden acres and water lines around her\, Rane is learning how to turn inward and listen to her own artistic calling. After an inner reckoning\, she upended her carefully constructed corporate life and charted a new course into music and mindfulness – focusing on writing and recording songs that capture the high joys and deep sorrows of the human experience. Her focus-shift to songcrafting didn’t go unnoticed. Americana Highways described her first EP\, Heart in Tennessee (2020)\, as “the mesmerizing sound of a singular talent.” A 2022 residency at Sweden’s Kneippbyn Resort Visby yielded four singles\, including “Meet Me in Stockholm\,” a bilingual plea from a homesick Rane to her friend to help fill solitary hours. \nGoldenrod (2024) climbed to number 13 on the Folk Radio Charts and garnered critical praise. The album features Grammy-nominees Dave Eggar (cello\, piano) and Phil Faconti (guitars\, ukulele)\, alongside previous collaborator Roger Gustafsson (bass\, steel guitar). Jonathan Shumaker is also featured on bass. Rane has toured nationally at venues like the Falcon Theater (Newport\, KY)\, University of Arkansas (Fayetteville\, AR) and the Lyric Theater (Lexington\, KY). She also has a fondness for playing house concerts\, listening rooms and botanical gardens (her favorite). After spells in Arkansas\, Sweden\, and Northeast Tennessee\, she’s returned to her roots – the county where she was raised\, where the city meets the country along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga\, TN. \n \nFormed in Seattle in 2007\, Paula Boggs Band has spent nearly two decades walking the long American road — not chasing trends\, but gathering stories. What began in the Pacific Northwest has grown into a national touring presence built on return invitations\, resonant listening rooms\, and songs that ask audiences to lean in a little closer. \nOver the years\, the band has carried its Northwest-born songwriting to stages across the US and beyond\, earning repeat performances at respected venues including World Cafe Live!\, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q\, Rockwood Music Hall\, Blueberry Hill\, Genghis Cohen\, The Triple Door and The Mint\, along with venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area\, like Sweetwater Music Hall\, and beyond. With 30–50 shows annually\, they move fluidly between intimate 50-seat listening rooms and 300-capacity halls known for their acoustics — spaces where nuance matters and lyrics carry weight. \nCritics have long recognized the band’s singular blend of tradition and reach. Current San Antonio observed\, “This veteran Americana act boasts a range of influences from classic — James McMurtry  and  Bruce Springsteen— to more contemporary — Drive-By-Truckers. The group describes itself as ‘soulgrass.’ An unfamiliar tag\, sure\, but not to be dismissed lightly in this age of microgenres.” Phil King of AudioFuzz.com has written\, “Boggs is like the Bob Dylan\, the Peter\, Paul and Mary\, the Joan Baez of this era.” And Dave Good of the San Diego Reader noted that Boggs “makes…urban\, jazzy music…within the structures of…folk\, bluegrass\, and…blues…she calls ‘soulgrass\,’ and reminds me a little of Gil Scott-Heron\, if only for the razor-intensity of her words…in a croony-rich street voice…evocative and easy to like.” \nThat word — “soulgrass” — hints at what sets Paula Boggs Band apart. Their music draws from the storytelling spine of Americana\, the communal lift of bluegrass\, the ache of the blues\, and the rhythmic undercurrent of soul. It is at once rooted and urban\, reflective and unflinching. The result feels less like a fusion and more like a conversation across traditions. \nTheir fifth studio album\, “Sumatra\,” widens that conversation. The record traces the intimate and the expansive: love songs shaped by hard-earned tenderness\, social commentary delivered with clarity rather than cynicism\, and reflections on ancestry that honor both inheritance and evolution. Sumatra carries the imprint of a band shaped by geography — Northwest skies\, Southern stages\, Midwestern grit\, Eastern brick — and by the communities that have welcomed them back. \nOnstage\, Paula Boggs Band is built for rooms where listening is an act of participation. There is space in the arrangements\, intention in the interplay\, and the quiet authority that comes from years spent refining craft night after night. Nearly two decades in\, they remain committed to the long arc — trusting that songs\, honestly written and carefully carried\, will continue to find their people. \n“Sumatra” is not a reinvention. It is a deepening — the sound of a veteran band still curious\, still courageous\, and still listening for what the road has to teach next. \n2025 marked a banner year of recognition: chief songwriter Paula Boggs was named one of eight NewSong Music Songwriting and Performance finalists\, the band was selected as a Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM) official showcase artist\, and songs Sumatra and Traces of You earned Intercontinental Music Awards. Traces of You was also a 2025 Song of the Year® Instrumental finalist. \nSumatra\, continues to earn international recognition. In 2026\, “Route 66” was named a finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards’ Folk/Americana/Roots category\, adding to the band’s growing list of honors\, including Folk Alliance International chart success\, Americana radio charting\, and multiple InterContinental Music Awards.
