SUMMARY:Tennessee Shines - 8/6 - Kelsey Waldon & The Muleskinners / Handsome & the Humbles / Redd & the Paper Flowers
DESCRIPTION:East Tennessee’s Own WDVX presents Tennessee Shines at the Historic Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville on Wednesday Night August Sixth at Seven.\nThis is a FREE SHOW featuring Kelsey Waldon & The Muleskinners\, East Tennessee’s Own Handsome and The Humbles and Redd & the Paper Flowers. This show is made possible by Tennessee Stone and Modelo Especial! \nIn the six years since she signed to John Prine’s Oh Boy Records\, Kelsey Waldon has earned wide praise for her “self-penned compositions [with] the patina of authenticity” (Rolling Stone). On her new album\, Every Ghost\, she confronts addiction\, grief\, generational trauma\, and even herself — and comes through it stronger and at peace. \n“There’s a lot of hard-earned healing on this record\,” Waldon says of the nine-song project\, recorded at Southern Grooves studio in Memphis with her band\, The Muleskinners. As she sings in the record’s title track and first song\, “Ghost of Myself\,” she’s put in the work not only to better herself and leave behind bad habits\, but also to learn to love her past selves. \nDoing so wasn’t easy\, Waldon admits. “It took time and experience\,” she says\, adding that she can now find compassion for her younger self. \n“I think you’ve gotta respect her\,” Waldon says\, “because she was trying as hard as she could for where she was at\, and she was doing a damn good job.” \nCompassion is a throughline on Every Ghost\, whether it’s for Waldon herself\, for the person in the throes of addiction in “Falling Down\,” or for a suffering world in “Nursery Rhyme.” The people in Waldon’s songs aren’t irredeemable — they’re struggling. \n“You’ve got to have compassion; you gotta stay humble and have gratitude\,” Waldon says. However\, she’s learned that you also can’t let people take advantage of an empathetic heart. “Comanche” — which Waldon jokes is her very own truck song — finds Waldon grappling with the loss of a loved one\, not to death but to boundaries she’s set for her own good. Waldon owns a 1988 Jeep Comanche\, and driving it serves as a kind of therapy for her. \n“I love the whole aspect of when design mattered\,” she says\, “and owning your car was an expression of yourself.” \n“Comanche” is deeply personal\, but Waldon’s most introspective reflections bookend My Ghost. Its penultimate song\, “My Kin\,” extends the idea of loving yourself in spite of yourself beyond the choices she’s made and the circumstances she’s put herself in\, to reckon with both the good and the bad that come from her family tree. Those traits\, Waldon concludes\, make her who she is. \n“As the song says\, ‘I’m the best and worst of my kin\,’ and I love that for myself\,” says Waldon\, who was born and raised in a hunting lodge at the end of a dead-end road in the rural\, unincorporated community of Monkey’s Eyebrow\, Ky. “And I’m also at a point where I’m willing to break these cycles\, I’m willing to grow\, I’m willing to evolve.” \nAmong those best parts of her lineage is Waldon’s grandmother\, who died in June 2024. “She was a remarkable woman. The women in my family have been rocks\, and they’ve all been colorful and full of character\,” Waldon says. \n“Her garden and her yard\, that might have been one of the things she took the most pride in\,” Waldon adds\, recalling how her granny would often stop to dig up roadside flowers\, then transplant them into her yard. A display of tiger lilies\, some of which now grow in Waldon’s yard in Tennessee\, was a particular point of pride. \n“Transplanting is such a tradition — it can teach you a lot\,” Waldon says. “Life goes on\, beauty can grow from anywhere\, and as long as a person is remembered\, they’re never gone.” \nWaldon honors her granny with the song “Tiger Lilies.” She didn’t want an over-the-top sentimental song\, so she instead leaned into the idea of traditions as a way to remember loved ones. “I’m sure Granny would love it\,” Waldon says. \nEvery Ghost concludes with a Hazel Dickens cover\, “Ramblin’ Woman.” Waldon covered two Dickens songs on 2024’s There’s Always a Song and had added “Ramblin’ Woman” to their live sets as well. While Waldon didn’t originally intend to include their cover on this album\, it served as “a sonic star” during the recording process and has a message Waldon feels is still relevant decades after Dickens wrote it. “Hazel was ahead of her time\,” Waldon says. “Our existence is more than just what society expects of us. We’re more than just somebody’s girlfriend or wife or mother\, and those are all beautiful things\, but we can have our own independence\, and we don’t have to do it for anybody else. We’re beautiful\, magical\, and powerful creatures.” \nThat’s certainly how Waldon sees herself after completing Every Ghost. “It feels like there’s a spirit of fearlessness throughout this album\,” Waldon says\, “and I’m really proud of that.” \nWaldon’s fearlessness is among the reasons she landed at Oh Boy Records in 2019\, as the independent label’s first new signee in 15 years. It’s attracted fans to her headline tours and her festival sets\, and prompted artists including Tyler Childers\, Charley Crockett\, Robert Earl Keen\, Margo Price\, and Lucinda Williams to invite her on tour. It helped earn her both the title of “Kentucky Colonel” — an honor recognizing goodwill ambassadors of Kentucky’s culture and traditions — and a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual American Currents exhibit in 2024. \n“True outlaw shit is sticking to your guns\, and I feel like I’m doing that\,” Waldon says. “I’m not saying I’m unbreakable\, but I feel almost unbreakable. I’ve already hurt the worst that I could and lived to tell the story. We can be thankful for our ghosts.” \n \nRedd & The Paper Flowers is an Appalachian Folk / Livingroom Folk band from Knoxville\, Tennessee with members Katie Adams (upright bass)\, Colleen d’Alelio (cello)\, Gavin Gregg (mandolin)\, and Redd Daugherty (guitar). \nThe band met in 2022 through a local open mic and mutual friends\, and they just released their debut album\, Appalachian Bell Jar\, a record that is a testament to East Tennessee and greater Appalachia’s beauty\, struggles with government support\, and their experiences in the area. \nThe band has grown extremely close over the past three years\, particularly in touring: In 2025 alone\, they’re on the road for 22 weeks out of the year. The band also grew through the tragedy of Redd Daugherty losing her dear friend\, Jason Cooper\, who owned a local Knoxville music store named Rush’s Music\, which has been a staple of the Knoxville music community since 1958. From Coop’s tragic death\, Redd found out he willed her the business\, his estate\, and his dog\, Ando\, who passed in April 2024. Redd owns\, operates\, and works at Rush’s alongside Katie and Gavin during their off time from touring\, which services over 90 schools. \nTheir second album\, Dead Little Thing\, will highlight the struggles from this experience and is set to release January 2026. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU2Z91d6LuQ \nThe best songs\, the thinking goes\, are the ones written from real-life experiences\, but those experiences sometimes exact a heavy toll. \nJosh Smith\, the singer and songwriter for Handsome and the Humbles\, knows that all too well. “Draw Some Blood\,” the new album by the Knoxville-based Americana outfit\, is built on a foundation of loss that knocked the gregarious and affable frontman to his knees … but in so doing\, gifted him with a record that smolders like the orange coals of a once mighty conflagration. \n“None of these songs are really about my dad\, but the sadness I experienced from his death\, as well as the loss of my marriage\, is pretty much the foundation of this album\,” Smith says. \nIt’s a profoundly intimate affair\, evolving from the skeletal framework of scribbled lyrics in the dead of night and rudimentary chords on an acoustic guitar. Upon those bones\, Smith and guitarist Josh Hutson began to bring the record to life in Hutson’s garage (affectionately nicknamed “The Ding Don Den”) using an iPhone interface to record everything but drum tracks on three songs. \n“I’d lay down an acoustic track\, he’d do electric\, then I’d do bass and vocals\, and we’d go back and do background vocals\,” Smith says. “They started sounding better than we anticipated\, so we just decided that since it’s so hard to get everyone together\, we’d just release what we have.” \nAlong the way\, they migrated to professional studios and recording spaces\, adding band members (guitarist Marcus Balanky\, former-and-sometimes-fill-in drummer Lauryl Brisson) and friends (drummer Kris “Tugboat” Killingsworth\, organist Matt Coker) to sculpt the tracks into a fully realized new record. \nThe finished creation is both warm and familiar and a startling departure\, made evident by the opening track “Be Around.” Ruminations on friendships during those dark times buoyed his spirits and inspired the shimmering ambiance that owes as much to the Flaming Lips as it does to any alt-country touchstones to which Handsome and the Humbles compare. \nAnd yet those touchstones remain … polished in ways that are a direct result of the musical intimacy shared between friends who first shared a stage together as teenagers. On “Now I Know\,” Hutson plays a guitar-slinging foil every bit as adept as Nels Cline to Smith’s Jeff Tweedy\, stomping through a swirling maelstrom of regret over the end of the latter’s marriage: “When everything means so much\, nothing means anything\,” he sings\, bone-tired weariness hanging on every syllable\, regret tinging every chord. \nThat regret lingers on “Nice Things” – “you’d think by now I’d be better than this” are the words of a man still coming to terms with a profoundly life-changing experience\, and once again Hutson’s fretwork serves as Smith’s North Star through the foggy remnants of remorse. \nHere’s the thing about “Alt-Country\,” though: Smith’s stories might burn like straight whiskey\, but the music is the sweet fire of bliss that follows. Whether it’s Brisson on sticks giving “Fades Away” a “D’yer Mak’er”-style groove or Coker coaxing “Exile”-era Stones juju on a song like “You Walked Away\,” there’s joy to be found in this collection\, if for nothing else than the simple fact that pain fades and the sun always rises. \nLight\, Smith has learned over time\, is always on the horizon\, somewhere in the distance\, guiding a path through the darkness. That’s a theme that Handsome and the Humbles have championed since the band came together around an EP titled “Hallelujah\, Alright\,” the capstone of which\, “Knoxville Lights\,” was a shambling rock ‘n’ roll homage to the cityscape as seen from a weary traveler crossing the mountains. Two full-length records followed — “Have Mercy” and “We’re All the Same\,” along with another EP (“400 Cigarettes”) a couple of years ago. \n“Alt-Country” is a continuation of the band’s journey to places “both frightening and stunning\,” as Smith croons on the new record’s final track\, “Returning to You.” And as that song fades\, he assures us: “When I’m alone\, my heart keeps returning to you.” \nIt seems natural to assume he’s talking about the loved ones he’s lost along the way\, but there are greater forces at work here\, made evident in the beauty carved from the granite face of pain: \nHe’s returning to the light\, and the fans and bandmates and opportunities that music has always provided\, and we are all the better for it. \n-Steve Wildsmith

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 8/8 - Robinella
DESCRIPTION:Robinella’s career began with a sort of luck that rarely comes to most artists within their lifetime. What started out as a simple husband-and-wife duo fresh out of college quickly grew to a full-fledged band that blended Bluegrass\, Country and Jazz. The combination of Robinella’s honey-sweet vocals with violin\, mandolin\, bass\, drums and piano captivated audiences\, thus creating the ever popular Robinella & the CC Stringband. \nThey released their first album\, self-titled Robinella and The CC Stringband\, in 2000\, which quickly followed\, No Saint\, No Prize in 2001. Both were on the independent label Big Gulley Records. With a few simple twists of fate\, what followed was a whirlwind of rapid success – Columbia Records liked what they heard and signed Robinella in 2002. The label took seven songs from the band’s two prior albums and released them as the CD Blanket for My Soul and then released a full album in 2003\, Robinella and the CC Stringband. This led to a national tour including opening for such artists as Bob Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, Earl Scruggs\, Nickel Creek\, Robert Earl Keen\, Kasey Chambers\, Del McCoury and Rodney Crowell as well as an appearance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and a music video on CMT for their hit single\, “Man Over”. She also performed on NPR’s “Mountain Stage\,” appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and performed on PBS’s “SoundStage.” In 2006\, Robinella was nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the Americana Music Awards and released her fourth album\, “Solace for the Lonely”\, on Dualtone Records in Nashville. \nBut then life\, as it has a tendency to do\, threw a few curveballs her way. She became a mom and a couple of years later\, she and her husband/musical partner split up with a new record almost completed. Exhausted and somewhat disillusioned with the industry and its promises\, it was time to regroup\, redefine and get back to her roots. So she returned to her home\, the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains\, and got back in touch with what she truly wanted – love\, family\, friendship\, music\, art\, truth. \nWith that comes her latest release\, “Fly Away Bird”\, her most mature work. However\, within the melancholy and touches of sadness there is not true despair. For such a voice — that dazzling\, warm\, bright-as-summer-sunshine soprano — to even communicate it would most likely defy certain laws of emotional physics. No\, instead\, this album\, beneath the disappointments\, she is brimming with optimism — with hope. You can feel it\, and even more important than that\, you believe — because she believes\, and because her music is so honest and so genuine and so forthright that you just can’t help but knowing that this is an artist who still finds life to be magical.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/11 – Jeff Batson
DESCRIPTION:Jeff Batson\, a native of the St. Louis suburb of Cahokia\, IL\, began his musical journey in high school. His early performances at iconic local venues like The Fabulous Fox Theater garnered him a strong following in the local music scene. He has shared the stage with the likes of rock ‘n’ rollers\, Gary U.S. Bonds and Three Doors Down\, country greats including Hank Williams\, Jr.\, Keith Urban\, Tracy Byrd\, and Collin Raye and bluegrass legend\, Dr. Ralph Stanley. The St. Louis Post Dispatch\, in one of their many concert reviews\, declared him “a natural frontman.” After conquering the local scene\, he set his sights on Nashville and\, in 1997\, made the move. \nAfter settling in Music City\, Jeff split his time between live performances and honing his songwriting talents\, amassing more than 40 cuts by other artists. “The Rock\,” the title cut on Tracy Lawrence’s Grammy-nominated gospel release\, cracked the Top 20 on the country charts. “Wasted” and “Last Time ‘til the Next Time” were co-written and recorded by Jamie Richards\, who took both songs into the Top 10 on the Texas Music Chart. His own recording of “That’s a Winner\,” which pays tribute to the late great St. Louis Cardinal’s announcer Jack Buck\, remains a St. Louis baseball fan favorite. \nA DOD tour\, performing for the military in Saudi Arabia\, Kuwait\, Bahrain\, the United Arab Emirates\, and Diego Garcia\, gave him a keen understanding of those who serve. Jeff co-wrote “Make a Wish” and “Hometown Heroes\,” both released as singles on Laura Bryna’s debut project for Equity Records Trying to Be Me. “Hometown Heroes” caught the attention of the U.S. Air National Guard\, who created a national promotion using the song in radio commercials and the music video in television commercials. His tribute to the selfless service of firefighters\, “Don’t Call Me a Hero\,” received instant acclaim from the global firefighting community and continues to be played at their events across the country. In 2024-2025 Jeff took two releases\, “End of the Grains” and “Come on Sunshine\,” to the top of the Euro Academy of Country Music Chart. \nIn his songwriting\, Jeff Batson possesses an authentic gift for turning real emotions into music. SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/13 – J. Carmichael
DESCRIPTION:J. Carmichael writes ballads about love\, God\, and a world spinning out of control. Defiance\, perhaps to a fault\, echoes in his music\, from the way he writes\, to the instruments he plays\, to what he writes about. J grew up on Nashville Now\, 90’s punk and indie and he is influenced by the songwriting giants of many genres. Just as comfortable at a fiddle festival as he is at a punk rock show\, never content in the confines of a genre. J has released 3 full length records and a handful of EPs with another album coming in 2025. J spent 2008-2013 recording albums and playing shows from Washington State to Texas playing as an opener for: Lucero\, Tumbledown (Mike of MxPx)\, Scott Biram\, and yet to break out alt country sensation John Moreland. After becoming a father J took several years away from performing and recording and served multiple communities in Idaho and Washington state driving ambulances and fighting a few fires. Some souls however\, are bound to roam and share stories and songs along the way. In 2024 J set out on the road again with a pile of new songs and looks forward to doing even more of it in 2025.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/20 – Maygen & The Bird Watcher
DESCRIPTION:The past few years have been quite a stir for the Minnesota progressive folk-rock-country sextet Maygen & The Birdwatcher. In late 2021 they released their debut full-length album\, Moonshine\, (which Americana UK wrote is “stunning”)\, earning them Midwest Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year) and landed opportunities to join festival stages with bands like Old Crow Medicine Show\, Paul Cauthen\, Grace Potter\, and even support a childhood favorite\, Travis Tritt. \nThey continued the momentum in late 2022\, releasing Moonshine’s companion EP\, with the “lively and charming” (Adventures in Americana) Bootleggin’ At The Flower Shoppe. With Maygen & The Birdwatcher taking home wins for the 2023 Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year at the Midwest Country Music Organization’s annual awards for Bootleggin’ At The Flower Shoppe. \nThe Americana folk band adventurously blurs the sounds of country\, bluegrass\, folk\, and blues. Lead singers Maygen Lacey\, and Noah Neumann intentionally work to draw on their vastly different musical influences and vocal styles to bring a fresh and unexpected mix of songs to light. From beauty to grit\, sadness to silliness\, the common thread is that this crew loves music\, and playing it together\, and it shows. \nIn October 2023\, Maygen & The Birdwatcher hosted and curated the inaugural Amerigrass Fest at The Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge in Minneapolis. Maygen Lacey cherishes the special community of musical artists in the Midwest\, and looks forward to celebrating what each genre\, and fusion of genres can bring about at the new event Amerigrass Fest — “We are big fans of collaboration and love to play with the bands we share the stage with. Music is our love language and we’re very excited to play Amerigrass with the talented array of artists.” \nThat same year\, Maygen & The Birdwatcher teamed up with the South Dakota Grasslands Coalition\, a non-profit organization to help save North America’s most threatened ecosystem: its native grasslands. Together\, they released an original song and music video\, titled “Where Good Things Grow\,” that they hope will raise public awareness regarding the importance of grassland ecosystems and generate support for programs and activities to encourage farmers\, ranchers and state officials to develop programs and policies that preserve and restore the health of North America’s grasslands. The original song and music video for “Where Good Things Grow\,” have earned them the 2023 Video of the Year award from the Midwest Country Music Organization as well as 2023 Entertainer of the Year. \nMaygen & The Birdwatcher’s music is Americana that isn’t afraid to embrace eclecticism\, but it’s also firmly rooted in folk and country. To achieve their rich\, full sound\, the band fills out the sonic details\, with multi-instrumentalist Nik Pellinen adding banjo\, lap steel and electric guitar. Along with bassist Chase Rabideau\, who rounds out the bottom\, mandolin player Jesse Moravec\, who also contributes vocals\, fiddle player Evin Haukos\, and drummer-percussionist Peter Anderson create a new take on bluegrass-folk-country. It’s a hyphenated hybrid that can come only from a seasoned—and tightly knit—band. \nIt leaves music fans wanting to hear more as Maygen & The Birdwatcher leap forward this year\, and take their original music to the next level. \nMaygen & The Birdwatcher have released two single tracks— “Full Moons (Leap Year Session)” and “Jericho” from their forthcoming Leap Year EP available August 2\, 2024. Leap Year was recorded by Minnesota native\, acclaimed artist and guitarist-extraordinaire\, Erik Koskinen.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate – 8/22 – Carolina Bluegrass Style
DESCRIPTION:Carolina Bluegrass Style is a unique blend of young and old\, past\, present\, and perhaps the future of bluegrass music. When Tommy Thomas asked Tyler Chasteen\, Don Ashley\, and David Prosser to get together and play some music\, they had no idea they would be creating a new group. Yet\, the popularity of the group has surpassed all expectations. While all the members of the band live in the Columbia\, SC area\, they have been honing their sound in restaurants\, clubs\, and other venues around Asheville\, NC. \nThe band’s eclectic mix of members has brought about a fusion of both musical styles and musical selections\, featuring a little of everything from old Western Swing music to Jazz\, Reggae\, and\, of course\, Traditional and Contemporary Bluegrass. The band has become known not only for their sound and mix of music but also for their warm and endearing stage presence that keeps people entertained and involved in what they do. \n### Let’s Meet the Band \n**Tommy Thomas** – The “foundation” man for the band\, Tommy has played Jazz\, Big Band\, and Classical before getting into bluegrass and playing with several local bands. He brought Carolina Bluegrass Style together\, and his rock-solid beat moves the sound with his walking lines. Inspired by legends like Tom Grey and Edgar Meyer\, Tommy is a key component of the band’s rhythm section. \n**Don Ashley** – Don plays the fiddle and serves as the Master of Ceremonies for the band. His charm\, wit\, and easygoing manner engage the crowd\, making them feel part of the performance. With a career spanning several bands\, Don’s powerful double-stop fiddle style and strong baritone lead voice make him a fun and captivating performer. \n**Tyler Chasteen** – Holding down both rhythm and lead guitar\, Tyler is the youngest member of the group. His talent is immense\, inspired by icons like Tony Rice\, Clarence White\, and Billy Strings. Tyler is not only an exceptional guitarist but also a strong singer\, with his lead and tenor voice fitting perfectly over the music that Carolina Bluegrass Style creates. \n**David Prosser** – Rounding out the ensemble is the banjo and dobro player. David has been playing since he was 17 and loves the music he plays. Whether it’s swing or hard-driving bluegrass\, David is always having a great time. With influences ranging from Earl Scruggs and Don Reno to Béla Fleck and Tony Trischka\, David is constantly learning and evolving his craft. \nThat’s the band\, or as we like to say…This is CBS!

SUMMARY:Summer Sessions - 8/23 - Dan Tyminski / Amythyst Kiah
DESCRIPTION:Support for WDVX comes from ORNL Federal Credit Union. WDVX and ORNL FCU once again present the Summer Sessions at Bissell Park in Oak Ridge on Saturday August 23rd at six featuring Dan Tyminski and Amythyst Kiah. The event is free… bring your lawn chairs and have some fun with The Summer Sessions with ORNL FCU and East Tennessee’s Own WDVX! \nDan Tyminski was six years old when his parents began taking him to fiddle contests\, square dances\, and bluegrass festivals across New England. For a young musician who would later become one of the biggest names in modern-day bluegrass\, those early experiences were life changing. \n“Watching live music always spoke to me much louder than sitting in front of my record player\,” he remembers. “I loved it. Wherever music was being played\, I wanted to go watch. Years later\, I still feel that way.” \nThroughout his 30+ year career\, Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. His voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brothers’ classic song\, “I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow\,” in the film\, Oh Brother\, Where Art Thou? and his vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey Brother” was a global smash\, having been streamed more than a billion times to date. His diverse solo projects and years of work with Alison Krauss and Union Station have yielded troves of award-winning music. \nIn recent years\, Tyminski’s live shows with the Dan Tyminski Band have become bluegrass fan favorites and are regularly on the must-see lists among music fans of any genre. \nWith his newest album release – the Grammy-nominated 2024 concert album Dan Tyminski: Live From The Ryman – he captures the magic of those live shows\, while also proving that he still has the same passion for live music as he did when he was growing up. \nHis earliest touring and recording work was as a part of the band\, Green Mountain Bluegrass. He later joined the influential bluegrass group\, Lonesome River Band\, before embarking on his three decades of work with Alison Krauss and Union Station. \nThe first album that Tyminski recorded as a solo artist was the soul-stirring Carry Me Across the Mountain (2000)\, followed by the Grammy-nominated Wheels (2008) which was named the 2009 Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. His work with the EDM artist\, Avicii\, inspired Dan to create the genre-defying Southern Gothic album\, released in 2017 to much critical acclaim. Tyminski would then showcase again his heart for bluegrass with the 2022 EP tribute to Tony Rice\, One More Time Before You Go\, which included guest performances by Molly Tuttle\, Sam Bush\, Dailey & Vincent\, and Billy Strings. The following year saw the release of the full-length bluegrass album\, God Fearing Heathen\, which quickly hit #1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart. \nOver the course of his career\, Tyminski has also evolved into a prolific songwriter\, penning songs with Monty Criswell\, Phillip Lammonds\, Kristian Bush\, Ashley Monroe\, Chris Stapleton and many others. \nDan has been honored with 14 Grammy Awards and is a four-time Male Vocalist of the Year honoree by the International Bluegrass Music Association. He has also recorded instrumental or vocal harmony contributions for projects by Martina McBride\, Reba McEntire\, Brad Paisley\, Dolly Parton\, Willie Nelson\, Joan Osborne\, Charlie Daniels\, Kenny Chesney\, LeAnn Rimes\, Rob Thomas\, and Charlie Haden\, to name a few. Tyminski certainly represents the pinnacle of modern bluegrass music. \nWhile Dan enjoys a good conversation and a good cigar\, he can often be found participating in charitable Pro-Am golf tournaments\, as well as competing regularly in the Foosball tournament circuit. \n \nProduced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift\, Green Day\, Weezer) and recorded at his Nashville studio\, Amythyst Kiah’s new album Still + Bright explores the vast expanse of her inner world: her deep-rooted affinity for Eastern philosophies and spiritual traditions\, a near-mystical connection with the natural world\, the life lessons learned in her formative years as a self-described “anime-nerd mall goth.” In dreaming up the backdrop to her revelatory storytelling\, Kiah and Walker arrived at a darkly cinematic and exhilarating twist on the rootsy alt-rock of her 2021 breakthrough album Wary + Strange—an LP that landed on Rolling Stone’s list of the 25 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021 and drew acclaim from major outlets like Pitchfork. With its sonic palette encompassing everything from fuzzed-out guitars and industrial-leaning beats to gilded pedal steel and Kiah’s exquisitely graceful banjo work\, Still + Bright fully affirms her as an artist of both daring originality and uncompromising depth. \nOn Wary + Strange\, Kiah offered up a collection of spellbinding songs detailing her experience with grief and trauma and alienation\, each illuminating the extraordinary impact of her songwriting. An electrifying showcase for her singular musicality and soul-stirring voice\, Kiah’s Rounder Records debut soon found many leading critics hailing her as a formidable new talent\, adding to a list of accolades that includes earning a Grammy nomination for her powerhouse anthem “Black Myself.” But when it came time to create her follow-up\, the Tennessee-born singer/songwriter felt compelled toward a profound shift in her artistry. “On the last record it felt so cathartic to write about all the pain I was dealing with\, but this time the songs came from a place of finding joy in the music\,” says Kiah. “In the past I felt so mired down with anxiety that I sometimes held back from what I really wanted to write about; I felt like I needed to play it safe and keep certain thoughts to myself. But now I’m at a point where I’m confident in what I value and love\, and because of that I’ve made the album I’ve always wanted to make.” \nAlthough Kiah’s third full-length marks a departure from the anguished emotionality of its predecessor (an album informed by losing her mother to suicide at age 17)\, Kiah imparts all of Still + Bright with a hypnotic intensity born from boldly stating her convictions. To that end\, the LP opens on the stormy grandeur of “Play God and Destroy the World”: an immediately captivating coming-of-age tale featuring guest vocals from Kentucky-bred singer/songwriter S.G. Goodman. With its title taken from a song Kiah penned and performed at a talent show in high school\, the hard-charging track dispenses a bit of searing commentary on the hypocrisy she witnessed throughout her childhood—and ultimately speaks to the sense of hope and possibility she discovered in unexpected places (e.g.\, the humanistic sci-fi of The Matrix). “I grew up in a good neighborhood and had parents with good jobs\, but in many respects my family was different\,” says Kiah\, who was raised in Chattanooga and later moved to Johnson City. “In order to fit in\, you had to go to church and have conservative values—and I know that being Black wasn’t doing us any favors either. This song was written for the 15-year-old version of me who suspected that there was a big world out there that allowed for many beliefs and a more connected humanity.” \nOn songs like “S P A C E\,” Kiah turns inward and ponders her search for peace of mind in times of maddening uncertainty. “As someone whose identity is tied up in being a touring musician\, the pandemic created a lot of anxiety where I started questioning who I was if I wasn’t out on the road\,” says Kiah. “There were moments when I dealt with that by scrolling through Instagram\, but over time I started to treasure the quiet. Meditation became an important part of my life\, and I eventually wrote ‘S P A C E’ about learning to be more present.” Partly written on banjo\, “S P A C E” unfolds as a soulful outpouring laced with lush mandolin lines\, lovely fiddle melodies\, and a powerfully soaring vocal performance from Kiah. “One of my main goals for this album was to show a new side of myself as a singer\,” she notes. “I’ve always loved really strong\, gospel-style vocals\, and I put a lot of work into increasing my range for this record.” \nAnother track spotlighting the stunning force of her voice\, “Empire of Love” presents what Kiah refers to as “my personal theme song”: an impassioned statement of devotion to her journey as a spiritual seeker\, gorgeously wrought in brooding guitar riffs and fiercely delivered poetry (“My religion is none at all/I build my own cathedrals and let them fall…I pledge allegiance to my soul/I’ll follow where she needs to go/I’m a pilgrim for the empire of love”). Inspired by her ever-deepening connection to the Appalachian landscape—and by her interest in Western humanities and Eastern religions—“Empire of Love” finds Kiah constructing her own belief system firmly rooted in compassion and curiosity. “I believe in carving a path in life that honors my own experiences in the context of the wider world\,” says Kiah\, who co-wrote “Empire of Love” with Sean McConnell. “As a seeker in the mountains\, my sense of spiritual connection stems from nature\, which is connected to all of the cosmos. And there is no religious or social dogma that can change that.” \nAll throughout Still + Bright\, Kiah reveals her rare ability to spin her fascinations into songs uncovering essential truths about human nature. On “I Will Not Go Down\,” for instance\, she looks back on a barbaric moment in history and unleashes a furiously stomping folk epic\, featuring background vocals and nimble guitar work from bluegrass phenomenon Billy Strings. “I read about the Crusades in high school\, and I was disgusted at the prospect of coercing people into spilling an unimaginable amount of blood and brainwashing them into believing they were serving their god—when in fact they were simply doing the bidding of warmongers\,” says Kiah. “I wrote the chorus in my high school journal\, and it became a song about people-pleasing to a fault\, then reclaiming your autonomy and finding a balance between serving yourself and serving others.” Meanwhile\, on “Silk and Petals\,” Ellen Angelico’s feverish guitar tones merge with strangely euphoric grooves in a gothic love song sparked from Kiah’s viewing of the supernatural horror-drama of The Haunting of Bly Manor. “‘Silk and Petals’ was inspired by the story of the Lady in the Lake\, the ghost of a woman named Viola Lloyd\,” Kiah explains. “After falling ill with tuberculosis\, Viola leaves her chest of her finest clothes and jewelry to her daughter\, then becomes violent as she witnesses the affection between her husband Arthur and her sister Perdita. While Arthur is away on business\, Perdita smothers Viola in her sleep\, only to later be strangled to death by Viola’s ghost. The Lady in the Lake then wanders the hallways for centuries searching for her daughter\, killing anyone who moves into the house along the way. I wrote ‘Silk and Petals’ thinking about the idea of ghosts being unable to leave this realm because they’re hanging onto something they’ve lost\, and the song came from being so intrigued by that very intimate intermingling of love and death.” \nFor Kiah\, the making of Still + Bright involved a careful transformation of the songwriting process she adopted after composing her first song on a Fender acoustic at age 13. The latest turn in a dynamic career that’s included joining Our Native Daughters (an all-women-of-color supergroup also featuring Rhiannon Giddens\, Leyla McCalla\, and Allison Russell)\, the album marks her first time opening up her approach and working with co-writers\, including punk legend Tim Armstrong\, Sadler Vaden (a guitarist/vocalist for Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit)\, former Pentatonix member Avi Kaplan\, and Sean McConnell (a singer/songwriter who’s also written with Brittney Spencer and Bethany Cosentino). “In a way I almost felt like I had to relearn how to write songs\, because the experience had changed so much for me after taking better care of my mental and physical wellbeing over the past few years\,” she says. “It felt completely different to write from a place of fulfillment and wanting to have fun with what I was creating.” \nWhile Still + Bright undoubtedly finds Kiah pushing into new emotional and musical terrain\, the album also makes for a vital new addition to a body of work largely dedicated to exploring the struggle and joy of true self-discovery. “With all of my music\, I’d love to leave people with the feeling that it’s okay to go off the beaten path and to structure your life in a way that feels right to you\,” says Kiah. “And just like with the last record\, I hope that these songs can help people out if they’re going through a difficult time. That’s what I always hope for more than anything: for my music to continue to be a part of the healing process for anyone who might need it.” \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/25 – Kristina Murray
DESCRIPTION:“I’ve been to some pretty low places these last ten years\,” Kristina Murray confesses. “Faced a lot of heartbreak and loss and grief\, but you have to learn to live with those things if you’re going to survive. You have to persevere.” \nThat spirit of perseverance forms the bedrock of Murray’s stunning new album\, Little Blue. Recorded with producers Misa Arriaga and Rachael Moore\, the collection grapples with loneliness\, desperation\, and existential crises through a series of cinematic snapshots of small-town burnouts and last call lovers. Murray is a country artist in the truest sense\, a genuine craftswoman with a keen eye and ear for the little details that bring her working-class characters to life\, and her delivery is timeless\, blurring the lines between the old school honky-tonk\, swampy Americana\, and R&B-infused southern rock she grew up on in her home state of Georgia. If Murray sounds like a seasoned vet on Little Blue\, that’s because she is. While the album marks her Normaltown debut\, Murray’s spent the last decade since moving to Nashville paying her dues in an endless series of dive bars and juke joints\, and the result is an electrifying introduction to an artist only just beginning to get the kind of wider recognition her talent has long warranted. \n“Country music is having a moment right now\, and of course I’m thrilled to be a part of that\,” Murray reflects. “But even when that moment passes\, I’ll still be making it. This genre’s a never-ending treasure chest of discoveries. Country music is who I am.” \nBorn and raised in Atlanta\, Murray first fell in love with country music at the age of five\, when she heard Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits on cassette in her momma’s car. After self-releasing her debut album in 2013\, she moved to Nashville\, quickly finding her place in the community as she helped establish the now-legendary Honky Tonk Tuesdays series and became one of the first women to front a band at Santa’s Pub. \n“I wanted to surround myself with great writers and players so I could grow as an artist\,” Murray explains. “It’s funny to look back now and realize how little I knew when I first got to town\, but I was confident\, I’ll say that\,” she laughs. \nMurray worked multiple jobs at a time to pay for her sophomore album\, Southern Ambrosia\, which landed on an array of Best Of lists and prompted Rolling Stone to declare her an Artist You Need To Know\, praising her sound as “country-rock with a deep\, poetic reverence for the land in which it was born.” The breakout critical acclaim didn’t translate to breakout success\, though\, and Murray soon found herself right back where she started\, unsure of where to go or what it all meant. \n“I felt stuck\,” she recalls. “My father died suddenly when I was 25\, a wound that never heals\, and through breakups\, car wrecks\, and just general brokenness\, all of which I was still processing when the whole world shut down in 2020. And while I’d had some brushes with notoriety and a few opportunities to tour in Europe and share bills with some fantastic artists over the years\, it just seemed like I was spinning my wheels getting nowhere.” \nSo Murray did what she always does when the going gets tough: she kept writing\, kept performing\, worked harder. \n“I just wrote and wrote and stockpiled songs for the right opportunity\,” she explains. “I knew I needed to level up\, and that meant finding the people who could help me get there.” \nFirst up was Misa Arriaga (Kacey Musgraves\, Wyatt Flores)\, who’d collaborated with Murray on a covers project in 2022 and eagerly signed on to help her record a full-length LP. It was around this same time that Murray met Rachael Moore (T Bone Burnett’s longtime engineer)\, who was so blown away by Murray’s live show that she invited her to come record in Muscle Shoals pro bono. \n“I wanted to work with both of them\,” Murray recalls\, “but with two different producers in two different studios\, I honestly wasn’t sure how it would all come together. Rather than worry about it\, though\, I tried to just trust in the songs and be as present as possible in the moment\, which helped me fall more in love with the process than ever before.” \nIn the end\, the dual producer setup proved to be perfect for capturing the two sides of Murray’s creative personality. Over a winter weekend in Muscle Shoals with Moore\, she and the band dug deep and chased sounds with meticulous focus and precision; over a spring weekend back in Nashville with Arriaga\, they were able to let loose and embrace a spirit of improvisation and discovery. \n“Both producers work in very different ways\, but their techniques turned out to be really complementary\,” Murray explains. “The songs were so cohesive when they all came together. It just felt totally natural and organic.” \n“A lot of the characters on this record are coming to terms with the fact that life just has a lot of sadness in it\,” Murray reflects. “But making peace with that sadness is what allows you to carry on and find joy and meaning and purpose.” \n“Our time here is so short on this little blue dot\,” Murray muses\, “too short for all the bullshit we get caught up in day to day. This whole record is dropping in and out of these little snippets of sadness in life\, but I wanted to end on this note of hope\, this reminder that you can still find love and beauty no matter how dark things may seem.” \nAll it takes is a little perseverance. \nAnthony D’Amato \n \n

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/26 – Dakota Ray Parker / June Star
DESCRIPTION:Dakota grew up in Hillsboro\, Kentucky exploring the mountains\, playing in the creeks and living in a land of true freedom. Goats\, pigs\, packs of dogs\, you name it. But here and there\, times were tough\, back and forth to foster homes\, alcoholism and poverty. “The feeling of being housed with strangers as a kid…you’ll grow up real quick…and its lonely” Parker says. But everything seemed to change when his parents got him a guitar in 2011\, lifting him out of reality into a new world where Parker learned to channel what he felt\, a world that felt like home. \nHis first songs were inspired by the local bluegrass players\, 1990s country and southern gospel. At the age of 18\, after his mothers passing\, Dakota was offered a job in Indiana at an RV repair business. With one hour to decide\, off he went with $40 in his pocket. Job after job\, factory after factory\, Dakota did not feel like he found his place. In 2023\, Parker quit his job to go all-in on music. “Only thing that gave me a sense of importance as a kid\, was music…so thats what I’m gonna do.” Parker says. \nHis first single\, “Rebel on the Run\,” quickly made waves and received radio airplay internationally. Two EPs\, “Kentucky Gap” and “Higher Ground\,” painted pictures of his turbulent upbringing while developing his identity as an up-and-coming Americana artist. His songs range from hauntingly empty to pulsing arrangements. With his Appalachian drawl and conviction for emotional honesty in songwriting\, Parker plays in a way that honors the local musicians and the upbringing that made him. Now living in north central Indiana and raising a family of his own\, he continues to tour around Indiana. Now in 2025\, Parker plans to release his first debut album. \n \nThe Late Spring from June Star arrives in late fall to stoke our fires for the oncoming winter. Bristling with the heat of a barely contained fire\, June Star’s confessional country rock invites us in to battle the blaze or find close comfort dancing to keep warm. Baltimore based June Star has been the primary musical outlet for Andrew Grimm since 1998. The Late Spring showcases June Star’s bar band chops over heartbroken laments. \nAlbum opener\, “Heaven Only Knows\,” finds Grimm admitting to\, “thinking of you when I shouldn’t be.” It’s an open road windows down thinking country rock tune that could slip into the midst of a Son Volt or Bottle Rockets set. “Waiting on You” expands the record’s sonic landscape with horns\, piano\, and a prominent pedal steel’s mournful wanderings. “Tired of waiting for wishes you wish\,…there ain’t much here a fire won’t fix\,” sings Grimm to introduce us to a “Long Low Simmering Kiss” – a plodding drive alongside a James McMurtry sing-talking baritone. “Used to You” introduces prominent female vocals by Katie Feild to the mix over a mellowed “We Will Rock You” drum beat\, a thumping bass\, and haunting pedal steel. “When the end comes we’ll clearly see what was want and what was need\, I’m getting used to you\, I’m getting used to you\,” their voices intertwine. \n“Boys in Trouble” introduces us to a sorry state of affairs\, “burning up all the things that you love\, is not the same thing as giving up\, someday you’ll find yourself alone…the sad truth is right under your nose and from the bottle to your blood stream it goes.” Though the circumstances may seem unfortunate\, “Boys in Trouble” is a beautiful ballad brimming with sincerity in the midst of a simple yet precise arrangement delicately delivered from seasoned players’ hands. Electric guitars return on “New Moon” as does a sense of renewal and optimism in the lyrics. “I Might Fall” builds on this energy as Grimm sings over a guitar driven groove twist on Tom Petty and Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell’s guitars in “Listen to Her Heart\,” “I can’t remember where I slept\, but I dreamt from you\, you were telling me it’s all right\, you know what to do.” The Late Spring closes with “Heaven Please” – a sweet dessert after the band’s main offering.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/27 – Dallas Ugly
DESCRIPTION:Nashville’s Dallas Ugly are an indie rock band of truly trusted friends\, a trio who have been singing each other’s songs for over a decade. Three distinctive voices: guitarist Owen Burton observes humanity at a wry remove\, chuckling\, multi-instrumentalist Libby Weitnauer lifts personal experience up into catchy tunes\, and bassist Eli Broxham gracefully snakes through the low end on his more melancholy contributions. Together they’ve forged an ironclad\, sibling-like bond\, daring each other to ever increasing heights. Their listeners – lucky – get the overlap of their Venn diagram\, the best of their crop\, otherwise known as “See Me Now\,” their sophomore album. \nThough they first started playing each other’s songs back in their Chicago undergrad days\, Dallas Ugly officially formed in 2020 when Owen\, Libby\, and Eli took a chance on relocating to Nashville. Owen had been living in Senegal serving in the Peace Corps\, Libby had established herself as an in-demand musician in New York City\, and Eli was playing on frequent bluegrass and country gigs in Illinois – reunited in the Music City\, they got to work\, shaping both Dallas Ugly and the local scene while playing with a slew of other Nashville artists. Their 2022 debut LP “Watch Me Learn” flirted with the boundaries of Americana – Libby’s vibrant fiddle playing\, Eli’s more down-home basslines\, a smattering of pedal steel. The record garnered listeners and acclaim. Under the Radar Magazine remarked the band “creates their own style full of shimmering magic\, crafting a work of fractal guitars\, pastoral melodies\, and glowing harmonies.” For the Rabbits noted a “depth and togetherness that’s a true calling card.” \nBut the trio leveled up in a serious way when they started collaborating with producer and engineer Justin Francis\, a straight-up Grammy winner who works with new classic songwriters like Madison Cunningham and Sarah Jarosz. He’s coaxed out a broad sonic palette – layers of jangly electric guitars\, an insistent drum sound\, tasteful OP-1 synth twinkles – while still allowing plenty of room for Dallas Ugly’s impeccable melodies and crackling violin lines. The trio plays beautifully and energetically\, they dig in and stop on a dime\, their voices in close intervals soar over breaks and the occasional measure of 2/4. Libby puts it well: “As a band\, I think we really just let it rip on this one – we tried to just make sounds and choices that we thought were cool without thinking too much about what was ‘right.’” It’s a delicious combo of studio polish and pure musical instinct. \nThe record is contemporary\, crisp\, and alive\, full of first cracks at insightful songs captured through live takes – just the kind of thing you might hear leaping out of a Fresh Finds playlist. The lyrics\, too\, feel particularly of the current moment – the title track evokes a not-too-distant economic collapse and throughout the record the three songwriters grapple for sure footing in an unstable world. “See Me Now” feels like a part of the current band-with-guitars renaissance\, in alignment with touring acts like Big Thief\, MJ Lenderman\, or songwriter Allegra Krieger. They’d be right at home on the bill at one of Wilco’s summer festivals or opening for Lucinda Williams\, heroes that bridge tradition and now. And it’s rare these days to hear a band so effectively channel the thoughtful toe-tapper anthems that used to be all over late 90s radio\, the kind of well-crafted\, open-hearted music to which you can’t help but sing along. With their new producer in the mix\, “See Me Now” shows brilliant shades of “Wide Open Spaces\,” the romantic swoon of Sixpence None the Richer and the Cranberries\, the chorused guitars of an REM track\, the bop-along charm of a Gin Blossoms heater. And yes\, Sheryl Crow is also a solid point of listening reference\, which is no surprise – she counts Justin Francis among her studio collaborators. \nThe record opens with a Southern-Rock-adjacent bopper whose insistent choruses explode. And then the album takes off running\, skipping through vocalists\, protagonists\, and genres\, all bolstered with tremendously melodic bass playing. “Best Behaviour” rolls the windows down while the band gleefully saws away while “Doing Good” transforms the apprehensions of the world falling apart into a gratitude anthem strummed on a rubber bridge guitar. “Circumstances” sprints at a panting pace\, shimmering\, followed by “Out of Sight\,” a charming\, hangdog vocal delivered by Eli. Other highlights: the sticky sweet\, rueful yearning of “Sugar Crash\,” the poignant\, sad joke shuffles courtesy of Owen on tracks eight and nine. Closer “Thin Skin” – drumless and extra tender after nine groovers – features achingly lovely vocals from Libby that echo out in plate reverb over nylon string chords. Stripped away of the rest of the band\, the song underlines just how interconnected and locked-in the trio is on the rest of the album. A song about falling down\, standing up\, then appreciating the growth and humility afforded to you after you make contact with the ground. These themes are heard elsewhere throughout the record’s other songs – shouting out the hardships that formed you\, thanking the heavens for vulnerability and the good love of friends that set you on your path forward. I’m back on my feet\, they seem to sing\, can you see me now?

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/28 – Stripmall Ballads
DESCRIPTION:Stripmall Ballads is the haunted\, dust-blown project of Phillips Saylor Wisor\, a songwriter wandering the backroads between myth and memory. Drawing comparisons to Neil Young\, Bonnie “Prince” Billy\, and Maybelle Carter\, his work lives in the tension between Appalachian tradition and modern disillusionment—aching with spectral beauty\, dry wit\, and a bone-deep sense of longing. From early lo-fi masterworks like Since Jimmy Died to the sparse\, cinematic ache of Distant\, his songs are slow-burning dispatches from the heart of a fractured America—where ghosts speak in minor chords and resistance sounds like a hymn. Stripmall Ballads doesn’t just sing about forgotten places—it sings from them. \nPhillips Saylor Wisor – aka STRIPMALL BALLADS – is a Maryland-based rollicking musical rambler\, rife with story-songs rich in emotion and hardihood. His brand of folk music sings the heartbreaking ballads of old brick buildings\, vacant lots\, and rustbelt towns. Of third shift papas\, flood plains\, and long drives through nowhere towns. He’s boots on the ground\, guitar across the body\, ever observing the ugly mundane mixed with the beautiful chaos of this place we trample upon on the daily. \nHe’s shared stages with Tommy Prine\, John R. Miller\, Danny Barnes\, Les Claypool\, The Be Good Tanyas\, Willy Tea Taylor\, just to name a few. \nIn his early days\, Wisor found comfort in DC’s encampments searching for validation in the gritty corners of tucked away spaces. Where street people applauded and encouraged as he picked away\, a rustling sound of Americana and folk\, with boozed-up night chatter for background noise. \nAs founding member of The Shiftless Rounders\, Phillips dove deep into the Appalachian ocean of old time banjo and balladry. And as a fervent practitioner of Shape Note music\, he has spent countless hours singing in the “old way” and devouring the harmonic notions of American roots music. \nWith a nod to Woody Guthrie\, Phillips deploys all these influences in his music. Stripmall Ballads is a testament to the enduring power of painting experience with emotion\, forever a voice of the strange amongst strangers.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 8/30 – Night Hawk
DESCRIPTION:What is it like to lose yourself in a place that doesn’t love you back? \nMaybe it’s waves crashing on a cold beach after the tourists have gone home. Echoes from an old community center\, the backdrop to ill-fated dance lessons. The hum of the world passing by as you stare out the window of the commuter train. Before We Begin\, the debut full-length from Night Hawk\, lives in this unsettled soundscape where childhood memory flickers\, choices crystallize\, and windows and doorways are as vital as the paths behind them. \nEmerging from Portland\, Maine\, Night Hawk began as a songwriting experiment between Colter Adams (Indigo Boulevard) and Peyton Semjen to compose songs inspired by the painter\, Edward Hopper. The band quickly drew the attention of Northeast artists and audiences alike\, culminating in collaborations with the Whitney Museum of Art and the Edward Hopper House. With Before We Begin\, Adams and Semjen expand the scope of their music beyond Hopper’s world\, but remain fixated on his aesthetics: thresholds\, isolation\, and interplay between illuminating light and clouded intention. \nProduced by Colter and Colin Miller (Indigo De Souza\, MJ Lenderman) in Asheville\, N.C.\, Before We Begin features recorded contributions from Emma Chun (violin)\, Courtney Burnett (drums)\, Alex Kozic (guitar)\, and Shea Sewall (bass). The album is out on all platforms on August 7\, 2025. The band’s East Coast tour will begin in Portland\, ME on August 7 and conclude in Nashville\, TN on August 30.
