However\, Jeanine really began singing since the age of eight in the C.O.G.I.C.\, Pentecostal\, as well later on in Baptist\, Methodist and Non-Denominational churches\, leading songs in the choir and singing solos. \nBeing reared for a while in Fayetteville\, NC\, it was in NC\, where her talents were groomed. She was taught to play the violin and later a little bit of piano. However\, it was her classical voice training from private teachers as a teenager\, that eventually led to her winning a national music competition and a four year scholarship to attend the duration of her high school career and college at the arts conservatory\, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She earned a special concentration in Classical voice performance in addition to her high school diploma. \nShe was also a college student at the music conservatory\, Manhattan School of Music in NYC\, but it wasn’t before long she was in demand as a touring artist. \nJeanine draws inspiration from greats like\, Etta James\, Billie Holiday\, Sarah Vaughan\, Dianne Reeves\, Chaka Khan\, Michael Jackson\, Stevie Wonder and most definitely Prince. \nShe has had the pleasure of performing for countless festivals\, such as featured artist for the Women in Jazz Jam Festival\, Knox Pridefest and the honor of sharing stages with notable\, Grammy award artists\, such as her jazz idol\, Dianne Reeves\, Brian Blade and Son Little. \nJeanine draws her soulful\,engaging performances from vast experiences in theater\,jazz\, gospel and classical ensembles\, touring the US and abroad in professional touring companies\, as well as cover bands & her own cabaret style shows. \nIn 2019\, Jeanine founded a working Soul/Funk Tribute band\, Jeanine Fuller & the True Funk SOULdiers. She is bandleader\, front person and often features local music talents in this dynamic\, fun and engaging tribute band. \nJeanine is a mother\, a daughter\, sister\, spouse\, auntie\, your homegirl\, just sharing the love of music. “I didn’t find music\, music found me”. I just want to be an inspiration to everyone\, from all walks of life. I want to bridge the gaps through the power of music. \nJeanine was finally brave enough to present her own music that was released in September 2024\, with her debut EP album entitled\, Endurance. \nThis debut EP album\, has recently earned her 8 international award nominations\, including Vocalist of the Year!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 3/6 - Timothy Chandler Hicks / Olivia Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Immersed in bluegrass culture while growing up in Northern California\, Olivia Wolf is a storyteller with an eye for the otherworldly. Having spent time living in Virginia and now hailing in Leiper’s Fork\, TN\, Wolf possesses an uncanny ability to mesh her California roots with Appalachian stylings. Wolf’s debut album ‘Silver Rounds’ (January 17th)\, produced by Sean McConnell (Brothers Osborne\, Brittney Spencer)\, is an intimate journey of loss\, resilience\, escapism\, healing and spiritual connection. At its core\, the album explores Wolf’s own experiences with grief\, portraying the bittersweet nature of memory and the longing for connection with those who have passed on to the next life. Throughout the record\, she grapples with existential questions\, inviting listeners to reflect on their own lives and the universal struggle for understanding. Wolf also emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and embracing self-care\, encouraging listeners to prioritize their own needs amidst societal expectations. She underscores this theme with a sense of community and shared experience as she draws inspiration from her relationships\, her surroundings and the universe at large. As ‘Silver Rounds’ unfolds\, it balances light and dark\, capturing the essence of life’s cyclical nature. Wolf’s storytelling invites listeners into her world\, where vulnerability meets strength\, and where every song serves as a reminder that even in our deepest struggles\, there is beauty to be found. This album is not just a collection of songs; it is a heartfelt navigation of life’s challenges while holding onto hope and connection. Wolf’s songs resonate with a universal truth: amidst life’s challenges\, beauty awaits discovery\, and music serves as the bridge to that beauty. Olivia Wolf is managed by Tracy Gershon and partners with Al Moss for radio promotion\, Shore Fire Media for press and Starfish Marketing for digital. \n \nTimothy Chandler Hicks brings psychedelic indie folk country.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 3/1 - Danny Schmidt / Nash Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Named to the Chicago Tribune’s list of the “50 Most Significant Songwriters in the Last 50 Years\,” Austin\, TX-based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt has amassed a cult following for his poetic\, poignant lyrics. With a craftsmanship and emotional depth drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt\, Schmidt is considered a preeminent writer. Sing Out Magazine proclaimed that: “Schmidt is a force of nature: a blue moon\, a hundred-year flood\, an avalanche of a singer-songwriter. His songs are a flood of poetry\, mythology\, folk wisdom\, and surprise. He is perhaps the best new songwriter we’ve heard in the last 15 years.” \nPerforming solo most often\, armed with just his voice\, his acoustic guitar\, and his acute insight and commentary\, Schmidt’s an authentic timeless troubadour\, one man sharing his truth in the form of songs\, in unadorned and intimate fashion. The understated effect can be powerful. As songwriter Jeffrey Foucault put it: “Everything about the man is gentle\, except for his capacity for insight\, which is crushing.” \n \nI’m Nash from Nashville. Listen to my songs\, tell me what you think. If you like them\, share ‘em with your friends. Y’all come back now!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate - 2/28 - The Merlin’s Nest
DESCRIPTION:1000% homegrown and original. Currently this channel represents merely a fraction of what The Merlin’s Nest is capable of. All photos are original artwork by the founding member and the recordings were painstakingly carved out in his bedroom. As this band grows the quality will continue to improve. Catching our live shows is the only way to truly experience the Nest currently\, but over time as the production value continues to improve the Merlin’s Nest will prove to be a powerful narrator of epic collisions of song and story in video and audio format. \n \n

Here’s Ken’s bio. \nBelow are links and photos\, and there’s additional material on request. For now\, here are quotes about his music\, his writing\, his work with kids\, and his knowledge of this business. Here’s a page with even more quotes. \nAlso\, from a fall 2010 residency at Lakewood Cultural Center: A Denver Post newspaper feature. (And to bring this full circle\, here’s an endorsement letter from Ken’s spring 2021 return to Lakewood through the same organization.)

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 2/26 - Roger Wallace
DESCRIPTION:Roger Wallace has something rare in country music today: honesty\, creativity\, and more than enough talent to back it all up. You could say it’s all in the voice — and not just the powerful\, rangy singing voice that has gained acclaim in roots-country circles for well over a decade. That voice attempts to speak not only in notes and words\, but in a distinct musical vision\, as well as unique views on the world around him. His latest CD\, aptly titled It’s About Time\, includes 12 of the 13 songs written or co-written by Wallace\, as well as a more stripped-down musical approach from his previous three CD’s (Hillbilly Heights-1999\, That Kind Of Lonely-2001\, The Lowdown-2002) that exposes the most basic elements of country music\, from its purest tones to its barest bones. In the summer of 1994\, Roger Wallace left his hometown and musical roots of Knoxville\, TN at the age of 22 to pursue music as a way of life in Austin\, TX. Unknowingly\, he became part of a mass migration of alt-and-roots country artists to move to Austin in the early ’90’s\, in his case literally passing right by Nashville to come to Austin — because\, as he put it\, “that’s where the music is.” Around 1997\, musical karma and music lovers’ own good fortune brought Wallace together with guitar legend Jim Stringer\, whose Music Room label and studio\, along with his own AM Band\, has since housed\, honed and brought together many of Austin’s best real-country artists. Wallace and Stringer\, along with Wallace’s steady ensemble of some of the world’s finest and most respected\, prolific\, and sought-after roots musicians — including Stringer\, drummer Lisa Pankratz\, bassists Brad Fordham and Kevin Smith\, pianist T Jarrod Bonta\, fiddlers Erik Hokkanen\, Elana James\, and Eamon McLoughlin\, and Marty Muse on steel\, as well as guests such as Toni Price\, Derek O’Brien\, and Dave Biller — have produced four highly acclaimed CD’s since 1999. “Hillbilly Heights” in 1999\, “That Kind Of Lonely” in 2001\, “The Lowdown” in 2002\, and his new 2007 release “It’s About Time” continue to solidify the slightly-older and ever-wiser Roger Wallace as one of the premier real-country artists of the modern roots music explosion\, and audiences look forward to hearing much more of the same for years to come.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 2/25 - June Star / The Co-Conspirators
DESCRIPTION:June Star was formed in 1998 by singer/songwriter Andrew Grimm. Since then\, they have put out 16 records\, toured a good bit of the U.S.\, and have gone into debt. There have been many members of June Star; the current line up is: Andrew Grimm\, Dave Hadley\, and Mike Kuhl. \n \nThe Co-Conspirators is a Hemmingford\, QC based duo playing folk/singer-songwriter music with elements of country\, rock\, blues\, gospel\, bluegrass\, spiritual\, and general roots music. With heavy emphasis on vocal harmonies\, this duo had been compared to The Weavers\, Ian and Sylvia Tyson and Richard and Linda Thompson. They perform mostly original music along with some traditional and contemporary covers. \nFounded in 2012 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Will Richards\, The Co-Conspirators really took off when Richards met Katherine Simons and they began performing together. Simons comes from a very musical family and is a classically trained french horn player and percussionist. Her pure\, angelic voice stands in contrast to the more raw style of Richards’. \nMostly performing as a duo\, they do occasionally add various instruments available to them such as bass\, drums\, percussion\, flute\, clarinet\, lead guitar\, violin\, cello\, harmonica\, banjo\, auto harp\, and vibraphone. \nAt the end of April 2019\, they released their first full length recording: Shadowing the Organ Tuner (with full band accompaniment)\, and have been touring across Canada ever since; performing 100s of shows in all provinces. \nThe Co-Conspirators toured almost non-stop until March of 2020 but have since – like all musicians – been on a greatly reduced schedule. \nOn January 5th 2022 they released their second full length album\, The Unreliable Narrators. \nThey continue to tour extensively.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 2/15 - Liv Greene / Drew Crawley
DESCRIPTION:Liv Greene is an Americana singer/songwriter\, producer\, and guitarist based in Nashville\, TN\, whose music “envelops a forlorn loneliness that’s at once poignant and crushing.” – American Songwriter. Deep Feeler\, her sophomore album\, is a reckoning with reality\, a vulnerable snapshot of hard-won self-acceptance. It’s feminine\, queer\, and defiant. It also heralds the arrival of Greene as a powerful new voice who joins the songwriting tradition of Emmylou\, Patty\, Gillian\, and Lucinda – in her own way. Greene self-produced and recorded Deep Feeler primarily live to tape in Nashville’s Woodland Sound Studios\, with collaborator Matt Andrews (Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings\, O Brother Where Art Thou) and a dreamy band of friends including Jack Schneider\, Sarah Jarosz\, Dom Billett\, Elise Leavy\, Jordan Tice\, and Christian Sedelmeyer. The resulting collection of lilting melodies and poignant storytelling is a bold achievement: a piece of art that matters culturally\, musically\, and personally. Greene is also a passionate educator\, with experience teaching songwriting and guitar in private lesson settings\, online classes\, and group instruction through the Passim School of Music in Cambridge\, MA\, and at Interlochen Arts Camp in Northern Michigan. \n \nDrew Crawley is a songwriter/singer based in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky – Louisville to be specific. My roots run back to the red soil of Oklahoma though\, where growing up I fell in love with the sounds of Country and Americana music – the likes of John Prine and many others. \nI play a blend of what some call Dirt-Emo (sad music on acoustic guitars) and Americana. The thing I’m most passionate about in the world is writing good songs and playing them with my best friends. I hope you’ll come see me and the boys play or listen to my music. The greatest gift I’ve been given through music is that of hope\, recovery\, and redemption. I hope that my songs will do the same for you.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special - 2/11 - Sugar Lime Blue
DESCRIPTION:Sugar Lime Blue is not just a band—it’s an experience. For over a decade\, this genre-defying group has been creating music that resonates deeply\, blending elements of Americana\, blues\, folk\, country\, and jam band grooves into a sound uniquely their own. With a reputation for electrifying live shows and heartfelt recordings\, Sugar Lime Blue has established itself as a cornerstone of the modern roots music scene. \nThe band’s latest release\, The Blackbird Sessions\, marks a pivotal moment in their journey. Recorded at the iconic Blackbird Studio in Nashville\, TN\, the album bridges the past and future\, showcasing the band’s resilience and growth. Beginning production just before the COVID-19 pandemic\, the project faced an emotional setback with the loss of founding bassist Russ Dean in 2020. Despite this\, Ashley and Dave Beth\, the heart and soul of the band\, remained steadfast\, enlisting the talents of bassist Joe Bass (Brian Howe) and keyboardist Scott Guberman (Phil Lesh) to see the album through. The addition of Luis “Slice” Echeverria on keys and Ikaika Pekelo on drums further revitalized the band\, both on the record and during their multi-state tours. \nSugar Lime Blue’s music has been celebrated by fans and critics alike\, praised for its authenticity\, versatility\, and emotional depth. Publications like Indie Band Guru describe their sound as “a reflection of the blue-collar American soul\,” while Skope Magazine highlights their “funky\, fresh rhythm\, dynamite hooks\, and stellar instrumentation.” The band’s seamless blend of influences\, from blues to funk to reggae\, creates a timeless vibe\, earning comparisons to the best of 60s and 70s rock with a modern twist. \nHaving performed nearly 1\,000 shows and shared stages with luminaries like Umphrey’s McGee\, Moe\, The Wood Brothers\, Ween\, and Buddy Guy\, Sugar Lime Blue has proven time and again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their live performances are transformative\, feeding off the energy of their fans and delivering unforgettable moments of connection. As Midwest Record puts it\, “This is not a trip down memory lane but a revisit to when everyone wanted to make hit records that didn’t sell out.” \nIf you’re looking for music that moves you—physically\, emotionally\, and spiritually—Sugar Lime Blue is the band for you. Whether in the studio or on stage\, they bring passion\, creativity\, and a sense of inclusivity that keeps fans coming back for more. Sugar Lime Blue isn’t just making music; they’re creating memories\, one note at a time.

SUMMARY:Tennessee Shines - 2/5 - American Aquarium\, Lilly Hiatt & Zach Russell
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS!\nFor nearly two decades\, American Aquarium have pushed toward that rare form of rock-and-roll that’s revelatory in every sense. “For us the sweet spot is when you’ve got a rock band that makes you scream along to every word\, and it’s not until you’re coming down at three a.m. that you realize those words are saying something real about your life\,” says frontman BJ Barham. “That’s what made us fall in love with music in the first place\, and that’s the goal in everything we do.” On their new album The Fear of Standing Still\, the North Carolina-bred band embody that dynamic with more intensity than ever before\, endlessly matching their gritty breed of country-rock with Barham’s bravest and most incisive songwriting to date. As he reflects on matters both personal and sociocultural—e.g.\, the complexity of Southern identity\, the intersection of generational trauma and the dismantling of reproductive rights—American Aquarium instill every moment of The Fear of Standing Still with equal parts unbridled spirit and illuminating empathy. \nRecorded live at the legendary Sunset Sound in Los Angeles\, The Fear of Standing Still marks American Aquarium’s second outing with producer Shooter Jennings—a three-time Grammy winner who also helmed production on 2020’s critically lauded Lamentations\, as well as albums from the likes of Brandi Carlile and Tanya Tucker. In a departure from the stripped-down subtlety of 2022’s Chicamacomico (a largely acoustic rumination on grief)\, the band’s tenth studio LP piles on plenty of explosive riffs and hard-charging rhythms\, bringing a visceral energy to the most nuanced and poetic of lyrics. “In our live show the band’s like a freight train that never lets up\, and for this record I really wanted to showcase how big and anthemic we can be\,” notes Barham\, whose bandmates include guitarist Shane Boeker\, pedal-steel guitarist Neil Jones\, keyboardist Rhett Huffman\, drummer Ryan Van Fleet\, and bassist Alden Hedges. \n \nCLICK HERE FOR TICKETS!\nThe search for answers—where she’s been\, who she’s become\, what it all means—lies at the heart of Hiatt’s striking new album\, Forever. Written and recorded in Hiatt’s new home just outside Nashville\, the collection grapples with growth and change\, escape and anxiety\, self-loathing and self-love. The songs are intensely vulnerable here\, full of diaristic snapshots and deeply personal ruminations\, but they’re also broad invitations to find yourself in Hiatt’s unflinching emotional excavations\, to see your own humanity reflected back in her pursuit of something larger than herself. Hiatt cut the album with her husband\, Coley Hinson\, who produced and played most of the instruments on the record\, and the result is a raw\, unvarnished work of love and trust that walks the line between alt-rock muscle and singer/songwriter sensitivity\, a bold\, guitar-driven\, at times psychedelic exploration of maturity and adulthood from an artist who wants you to know you’re not alone\, no matter how lost you may feel. \n“I think of this album like a hand to hold\,” says Hiatt. “I wanted to open up the door and let people in on what I’ve been going through\, but I also hoped that by telling the truth about the joy and pain and love and grief I’ve experienced\, it might strike a chord with somebody else navigating their way through all those things\, too.” \nBorn in Los Angeles and raised in Tennessee\, Hiatt first earned buzz with a pair of early solo records before breaking out with 2017’s Trinity Lane. Produced by Shovels & Rope’s Michael Trent\, the record helped Hiatt earn dates with the likes of John Prine\, Margo Price\, Drive-By Truckers\, and Hiss Golden Messenger in addition to festival slots everywhere from Pilgrimage to Luck Reunion. NPR called the album “courageous and affecting\,” while The Independent raved that it showcased Hiatt’s “gift for unpicking knotty lyrical themes in a personalised blend of countrified rock music\,” and Rolling Stone hailed it as “the most cohesive and declarative statement of the young songwriter’s career.” Hiatt delivered on the album’s promise with her similarly well-received 2020 follow-up\, Walking Proof\, and\, unable to tour due to the pandemic\, quickly returned to the studio again for 2021’s Lately\, which The Boston Herald said showcased her “knack for plainspoken\, poetic lyrics” and Uncut proclaimed to be “captivating.” \n \nCLICK HERE FOR TICKETS!\nEach year\, thousands of people flock to the city of Nashville with hopes of “making it”. Ironically\, it wasn’t until Zach Russell made the decision to leave Music City\, USA that he inked his first record deal with Thirty Tigers. The drive back home may have only been three hours long\, but Russell’s journey back to old haunts in Eastern Tennessee isn’t quite that cut and dry. \nIn the 7 years preceding that trip down I-40\, there were stints as a manager at a shoe store and a karaoke host. He calloused his hands installing irrigation systems and working as a carpenter. He traveled the US and Europe as Tyler Childers’ merchandise manager and got to witness firsthand what it takes to chase down greatness. Through it all\, one thing that remained constant was his belief that he could chase it down as well. \nMusic has always played a pivotal role in Russell’s life. A background in Baptist and Hymnal music as a youth and a taste for hip-hop\, rock\, and country music informed his musical style between 2016 and 2020 as he found his footing. In 2021 the world received its proper introduction to Zach Russell as a fully formed artist with the release The Creek. This five-song EP proved not only to be a landmark release in Russell’s career\, but with its lyrical depth\, soaring instrumental jams and infectious melodies\, it served as proof that this landmark was merely the first of many to come. \nSince moving home and finding clarity\, the past 18 months have been busy for Russell. He spent those months writing music\, touring with The Alex Leach Band\, and delivering a guest appearance on Adeem the Artist critically acclaimed album\, White Trash Revelry. That wave of momentum has culminated to this moment\, and the release of his highly anticipated full-length debut\, Where the Flowers Meet the Dew. \nOnce again joining forces with up-and-coming producer Kyle Crownover (Adeem the Artist)\, this ten-song effort never takes its foot off the gas pedal. Dominant themes of wrestling with mortality\, pondering reincarnation\, and finding that ever elusive feeling of contentment in this life weave gracefully through.
