SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 10/5 — Stephen Clair
DESCRIPTION:A Relix Magazine “artist to watch\,” Stephen Clair first came to prominence when the late Rita Houston (WFUV) added “Jen In Her Underwear”to regular rotation\, putting Clair not only on the map\, but the road. \nHe makes honesty sound catchy. He’s an instinctive and open-hearted writer who has no shortage of accolades—and has shared stages with James McMurtry\, Ellis Paul\, Jon Langford\, Paul Thorn\, and Robert Earl Keen. Performing Songwriter says he’s “the citified troubadour the roots songwriting world needs.”   \nStephen just finished mastering a new album with Abbie Gardner on dobro and Sara Milonovich on violin. It’s just the three of them\, and this album is already exquisite in its tenderness. \nHe just came off a Texas tour\, a stop at Kerrville Folk Fest\, a sold-out round at the Bluebird with pals Linda McRae and Jack Barksdale\, topped off with an official showcase at Southeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference.

SUMMARY:First Friday Live — 10/2 — JJ Niceley
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 2 / 6:00 – 7:00 PMKnoxville Visitors Center\nFREE!\nJoin us for our next First Friday Live presenting JJ Niceley! Our Maker this week will be Matthew Israel!\n\nBio:Nashville-based independent artist and poet-songwriter JJ Niceley announces her new EP Mystical Country\, scheduled for a July 31 release. Marking a profound personal and artistic rebirth\, this collection of songs serves as both a reflection of her roots and a bold step forward in her musical journey.\nAfter years of writing\, releasing albums\, performing solo and with a band\, going quiet and living on the land again\, Niceley defines her current sound as “Mystical Country”. It describes the sound\, the frequency\, and the mythopoetic place she traverses in her work and life\, a space that feels both grounded in rural reality and expansive enough to touch the ethereal.\nBorn on a dairy farm in East Tennessee at the end of a bygone era\, Niceley’s artistry is undeniably shaped by the “out of time” childhood she experienced in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains. Raised by a river\, surrounded by family lineage\, tall tales\, and the haunting essence of mountain music\, she possesses a lyrical voice and creates songs that operate outside the bounds of standard songwriting.\nThe first track on the EP\, “Gold Dust Redux”\, features Niceley’s signature gentle\, earthy acoustic guitar work and intimate vocal delivery. A reimagining of the song “Gold Dust” from her last album\, Not Lost\, this song takes on a new life with additional drum programming and banjo. The second track “Grove on the Hill” marks an evolution from her Americana folk roots through the incorporation of haunting synth elements punctuated by reflective lyricism. Maintaining the warm vulnerability of her past releases\, Niceley demonstrates beautifully how to metamorphose through tragedy to create a work that is both nostalgic and refreshing.\nProduced by her partner in music and life Eric Davis\, or Feathered Mason\, and featuring contributions from Jason Goforth\, Nat Smith\, and Clint Mullican\, Mystical Country is a collection that balances sorrow and light.\n“Her voice is special. It has an ethereal quality that reinforces the “mystical” part of her art.”

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/30 — Lazarus Lake
DESCRIPTION:Lazarus Lake\, the alt-country outfit of singer/songwriter Michael Jones\, released its debut record Family Tree on May 30th\, 2025. \nBlending homespun southern rock with the no-frills directness of Americana tradition\, Family Tree explores the ties that bind and the ways that they’re strained—with an eye to redeem the moments when life falls apart and to keep alive the memory of loved ones lost. \nFamily Tree is a record built on the back of long nights and longer weeks in the years that Jones spent gigging solo and in country bands in and around Knoxville\, TN through the first half of the decade. The debut record focuses on offering stories of loss and growth that are guided by a gentle hand. \nCovering adoration\, regret\, grief\, and everything in between\, these songs frame the simple\, elegant core of the album: even as it ends—and regardless of how you feel about it at any given time—your family is forever.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/29 — Remi Goode / Zach & Blu
DESCRIPTION:Things I’ve Said Before\, the debut album from Remi Goode\, is an introduction to an indie-folk artist who straddles the borders between different worlds. A nylon-string guitarist with classical training and contemporary influences\, she creates her own version of modern-day American roots music: one that’s intimate one minute and cinematic the next\, making room for folky bedroom recordings\, full-band studio performances\, and all points in between. \nFor Remi (pronounced “RAY-mee”)\, everything began in Tucson\, Arizona\, where she grew up listening to artists like Suzanne Vega\, Kathleen Edwards\, and Sarah Harmer. Those songwriters used folk music as a springboard for a wider sound\, and Remi was soon following in their footsteps\, combining her academic training — from classical guitar lessons to her vocal performances as a member of the acclaimed Tucson Girls Chorus — with an interest in charting new musical ground. She found a like-minded musician in fellow guitar student Gabe Lehrer\, kickstarting a longtime partnership in music\, romance\, and life. Years later\, when Remi began recording Things I’ve Said Before in studios and bedrooms stretching from Arizona to her adopted hometown of Nashville\, Gabe was beside her the entire time\, pulling triple-duty as her bandmate\, engineer\, and mixer. \nAt its most expansive\, Things I’ve Said Before is a band record\, its songs laced with light layers of fiddle\, entwined guitars\, groove\, and stacked vocal harmonies. Those arrangements came together as Remi\, Gabe\, and their small band of ASU music students performed around the southwest during the early 2020s\, turning songs like “Posterity” and “Return To Sender” into combinations of full-bodied folk and alternative Americana. Like all of her material\, Remi had written those songs alone\, using her ear — rather than her knowledge of theory — to guide the way. Things I’ve Said Before finds a way to highlight that intimacy\, too. Tracks like “Don’t Drive Me Home” and “Overseas” showcase Remi not only as the frontwoman of an amplified band\, but as a solo artist who makes music for rainy days and quiet mornings. These are the record’s two halves — the warm\, acoustic-heavy folk songs\, most of which were recorded at home; and the eclectic\, electrified tracks that cast a wider net\, most of which were tracked by a live band in a professional studio — and they come together on “Punchline.” Opening with thick stacks of Remi’s own multi-tracked vocal harmonies\, “Punchline” grows into something bigger with help from the entire ensemble. It’s the sound of the bedroom giving way to the band. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“We wanted the album to be kaleidoscopic\,” says Gabe\, who shares guitar duties with Remi throughout the album\, their two instruments interlocking and entwining into unique shapes on songs like the airily buoyant “Might Not Be True.” “We get bored of records that just have one sound.” \nThere’s nothing boring about Things I’ve Said Before\, whose diversity is tied together by Remi’s songwriting and effortless voice. A lifelong singer\, she pushes her vocals into unique directions\, from the jazzy inflections of “Don’t Drive Me Home” — a warm\, woozy track with finger-plucked guitar arpeggios and a soundscape-worthy outro — to the conversational croon of “For the Record.” She duets with Gabe on “Waltz\, No. 1\,” swapping harmonies during one of the album’s loveliest songs. Her nylon-string guitar serves as its own voice\, too\, and its plucked chords run beneath the entire record\, adding movement to her melodies and grounding everything in an earthy sound. \n“When I’m writing music\, I’m just following a whim or a melody\,” Remi says. “I’m not trying to use my classical training or my knowledge of theory\, because when you do that\, it’s easy to overthink things. You can get in your own way when you know too much about the theory of what you’re doing.” \nMuch of Things I’ve Said Before finds Remi in a reflective mood\, coming to terms with her role as an artist. “I wrote these songs while learning to consider myself a songwriter\,” she says\, describing the album as “my journey of exploration as an artist when I didn’t feel like one yet.” The lyrics are filled with paradoxes\, puzzles\, and multiple perspectives\, with Remi attempting to rid herself of black-and-white thinking and\, instead\, embrace the grey areas in her life. “With each song\,” she explains\, “I make an effort to get to the truth about a dynamic or situation with a person in my life. Rather than choosing a side or coming to a singular conclusion\, the lyrics tend to lean into contradiction and ambivalence. I hope that\, as a songwriter\, I’m able to show that we can find clarity and understanding while leaving some things unreconciled.” \nIndependently created and richly inspired\, Things I’ve Said Before captures a young songwriter in evolution\, nodding to the classical training and folky favorites of her past while pushing toward a wider sound. This is Remi Goode: self-assured\, inspired by her roots\, and headed toward something new. \n \nZach & Blu: Country/Folk singer and songwriters!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/28 — Teni Rane / The Paula Boggs Band
DESCRIPTION:Inside of Teni Rane’s songs\, you’ll likely encounter Appalachian songbirds\, white oaks\, and wildflower fields. These are just some of the earthly delights that surround her home in Chattanooga and dance through her music. Her debut album\, Goldenrod (2024)\, pays tribute to her favorite native plant’s “charismatic yellow self” and highlights the ways we too can sway through the shoulder seasons of our own lives. As a songmaker\, Rane likes to wade in the undertow\, through the deeper currents of loneliness and longing that churn below the surface of our days. Glide Magazine raves that she’s an “up-and-coming Americana winner along the lines of Sierra Ferrell.” \nRane grew up in the American South\, disconnected from her mother’s Armenian culture\, heritage\, and language. As she sings\, “I don’t know which way to turn or how to be\, there’s too much debris when identities collide.” Often feeling caught between worlds – neither fully Armenian nor totally at ease in Southern American culture – music became a compelling avenue to help make sense of her unique identity. It is no small wonder that her forthcoming album\, Never Turning Back\, orbits themes of kinship\, homesickness\, and the precarity of our human-made environments. Rane is a cartographer of the heart – capturing the many ways it breaks and breaks us open. An intense (over)thinker\, her songs ask questions about what makes a home and how we discover our place in the world. The album ranges from geographical adventure narratives like “Leaving You Behind” and “Arkansas” to tracks like “As I Walk Home\,” written in an existential haze at 2am about our imbalanced world. \nCat-like\, Rane lives many lives. In addition to making music\, she played semi-pro soccer on Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea; earned a Bachelors in chemical engineering; and teaches yoga and mindfulness. As she tracks the wooden acres and water lines around her\, Rane is learning how to turn inward and listen to her own artistic calling. After an inner reckoning\, she upended her carefully constructed corporate life and charted a new course into music and mindfulness – focusing on writing and recording songs that capture the high joys and deep sorrows of the human experience. Her focus-shift to songcrafting didn’t go unnoticed. Americana Highways described her first EP\, Heart in Tennessee (2020)\, as “the mesmerizing sound of a singular talent.” A 2022 residency at Sweden’s Kneippbyn Resort Visby yielded four singles\, including “Meet Me in Stockholm\,” a bilingual plea from a homesick Rane to her friend to help fill solitary hours. \nGoldenrod (2024) climbed to number 13 on the Folk Radio Charts and garnered critical praise. The album features Grammy-nominees Dave Eggar (cello\, piano) and Phil Faconti (guitars\, ukulele)\, alongside previous collaborator Roger Gustafsson (bass\, steel guitar). Jonathan Shumaker is also featured on bass. Rane has toured nationally at venues like the Falcon Theater (Newport\, KY)\, University of Arkansas (Fayetteville\, AR) and the Lyric Theater (Lexington\, KY). She also has a fondness for playing house concerts\, listening rooms and botanical gardens (her favorite). After spells in Arkansas\, Sweden\, and Northeast Tennessee\, she’s returned to her roots – the county where she was raised\, where the city meets the country along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga\, TN. \n \nFormed in Seattle in 2007\, Paula Boggs Band has spent nearly two decades walking the long American road — not chasing trends\, but gathering stories. What began in the Pacific Northwest has grown into a national touring presence built on return invitations\, resonant listening rooms\, and songs that ask audiences to lean in a little closer. \nOver the years\, the band has carried its Northwest-born songwriting to stages across the US and beyond\, earning repeat performances at respected venues including World Cafe Live!\, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q\, Rockwood Music Hall\, Blueberry Hill\, Genghis Cohen\, The Triple Door and The Mint\, along with venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area\, like Sweetwater Music Hall\, and beyond. With 30–50 shows annually\, they move fluidly between intimate 50-seat listening rooms and 300-capacity halls known for their acoustics — spaces where nuance matters and lyrics carry weight. \nCritics have long recognized the band’s singular blend of tradition and reach. Current San Antonio observed\, “This veteran Americana act boasts a range of influences from classic — James McMurtry  and  Bruce Springsteen— to more contemporary — Drive-By-Truckers. The group describes itself as ‘soulgrass.’ An unfamiliar tag\, sure\, but not to be dismissed lightly in this age of microgenres.” Phil King of AudioFuzz.com has written\, “Boggs is like the Bob Dylan\, the Peter\, Paul and Mary\, the Joan Baez of this era.” And Dave Good of the San Diego Reader noted that Boggs “makes…urban\, jazzy music…within the structures of…folk\, bluegrass\, and…blues…she calls ‘soulgrass\,’ and reminds me a little of Gil Scott-Heron\, if only for the razor-intensity of her words…in a croony-rich street voice…evocative and easy to like.” \nThat word — “soulgrass” — hints at what sets Paula Boggs Band apart. Their music draws from the storytelling spine of Americana\, the communal lift of bluegrass\, the ache of the blues\, and the rhythmic undercurrent of soul. It is at once rooted and urban\, reflective and unflinching. The result feels less like a fusion and more like a conversation across traditions. \nTheir fifth studio album\, “Sumatra\,” widens that conversation. The record traces the intimate and the expansive: love songs shaped by hard-earned tenderness\, social commentary delivered with clarity rather than cynicism\, and reflections on ancestry that honor both inheritance and evolution. Sumatra carries the imprint of a band shaped by geography — Northwest skies\, Southern stages\, Midwestern grit\, Eastern brick — and by the communities that have welcomed them back. \nOnstage\, Paula Boggs Band is built for rooms where listening is an act of participation. There is space in the arrangements\, intention in the interplay\, and the quiet authority that comes from years spent refining craft night after night. Nearly two decades in\, they remain committed to the long arc — trusting that songs\, honestly written and carefully carried\, will continue to find their people. \n“Sumatra” is not a reinvention. It is a deepening — the sound of a veteran band still curious\, still courageous\, and still listening for what the road has to teach next. \n2025 marked a banner year of recognition: chief songwriter Paula Boggs was named one of eight NewSong Music Songwriting and Performance finalists\, the band was selected as a Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM) official showcase artist\, and songs Sumatra and Traces of You earned Intercontinental Music Awards. Traces of You was also a 2025 Song of the Year® Instrumental finalist. \nSumatra\, continues to earn international recognition. In 2026\, “Route 66” was named a finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards’ Folk/Americana/Roots category\, adding to the band’s growing list of honors\, including Folk Alliance International chart success\, Americana radio charting\, and multiple InterContinental Music Awards.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate — 9/25 — Still Moves
DESCRIPTION:Still Moves isn’t just another band – they’re a sonic journey born in a basement studio in Clarksville\, Tennessee. What started as a musical friendship between Lucian Greene and Isaac Frost quickly evolved into something magical. They teamed up with Ben Colling and Bo Hunter for the first project. Their debut EP “Henry\,” a heartfelt tribute to their late piano/sax player Henry Rives\, dropped in April 2022 and set the stage for their unique Rock/Americana/Psychedelic sound. Completely self-produced in Isaac’s 1419 records basement studio\, the band’s raw and authentic approach caught people’s attention. \nTheir second EP “Until” followed in March 2023\, showcasing their growing musical chemistry. But the real game-changer came when Cody Kirby (drums) and Dalton Akins (bass) joined the lineup\, transforming Still Moves from a duo into a full-throttle live powerhouse. Their self-titled album\, released on August 30th\, 2024\, captures the electric energy of their expanded lineup – a testament to their journey from basement jam sessions to a dynamic Americana/Rock & Roll band. Cage Riot called the self-titled album\, “a genre-bending masterpiece.” Later that year Michael Davidson joined the group on organ/keyboards\, and completed the band’s full lineup. The second album “Roots” was just released on November 21st on all streaming platforms. Go give it a listen! \nBut to really get the full Still Moves experience\, you need to check them out live. They are a force to be reckoned with on stage with an energy that’s hard to describe.  At a small dive bar to a large festival  stage\, an acoustic to a full-blown Psychedelic Rock jam\, you’ll be sure to get the same level of passion and energy in every performance. Check out their busy show schedule by clicking on the “Shows” tab\, and find a date to see it for yourself!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/23 — Will Wesley & Florian Fox
DESCRIPTION:Will Wesley is a Country Rock and Americana artist. A storyteller whose sound blends a soulful edge with country rock energy into heartfelt storytelling. Born in Baker\, Louisiana\, Wesley was raised with a rebellious spirit and a love for music inspired by his father’s guitar. By age 15\, he was sneaking into bars to perform with a beat-up six-string and a fire that would soon define his music career. \nHe paved his path in the Baton Rouge blues scene\, performing and touring alongside with legendary figures. He served as Grady Champion’s Music Director for five years. His talent earned him two International Blues Challenge regional victories and a reputation as one of Louisiana’s fiercest young guitarists. \nBut Wesley’s journey took a turn when life’s hardships — including personal battles and deep loss — pushed him toward a new musical path. Drawing inspiration from artists like Hank Williams\, Marty Stuart\, Garth Brooks\, Jason Aldean\, and Eric Church\, he began merging his blues background with the modern energy of country rock and americana. \nIn 2021\, Wesley released his breakthrough album\, “Both Sides Of The Tracks.” The record featured 17 original songs\, including “A New Kind of Blues” (feat. Kern Pratt)\, “Leah” (feat. Michael Cleveland)\, and “Attitude”\, which reached #1 on the Euro Academy of Country Music Charts in Milan\, Italy. The project marked his official crossover from blues prodigy to full-fledged country-rock and americana artist. \nTragedy struck in January 2021\, when Wesley lost his brother Daniel Dale to a drug overdose — a loss that became the emotional core of his 2024 single “12 O’Clock in Texas\,” his most personal song to date. The single’s heartfelt storytelling and raw emotion struck a deep chord with fans around the world. \nWesley followed with “The Search” (2024) and his latest single\, “Bottom Of The Bottle” (October 2025) — a powerhouse track with a harder rock edge that’s rapidly gaining momentum and airplay. \nToday\, Wesley tours across the U.S.\, Europe\, and Southeast Asia\, performing everywhere from intimate listening rooms to international stages\, including the Switzerland International Country Music Hall of Fame and the Jackson\, Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. \nHe shared stages with many including Alabama\, RVSHVD\, Jason Boland & the Stragglers\, Redd Volkaert\, When In Rome\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, Scotty McCreery\, Hailey Whitters\, and shared international stages with Swiss Rockabilly Star – Florian Fox\, collaborating on Will’s singles\, “Wasted Again” and “Time’s Catching Up To Me.” \nIn recognition of his accomplishments\, he received seven nominations for his song\, “Ready To Ride” at the 2024 Josie Music Awards. In addition\, he received five nominations for his songs “12 O’Clock in Texas” and “The Search” at the 2025 Josie Music Awards. Both within Nashville\, Tennessee. \nDespite the road miles as a devoted Worldwide Touring Troubadour\, Wesley returns home to Louisiana in-between tours for hometown shows\, staying true to his roots and fans. Known for his humility and heart\, he continues to give back by performing at Veterans’ events and outreach programs — bringing the healing power of music to those who need it most. \n \nFlorian Fox is the “Swiss guy of the hour”. With his neo-traditional country style\, Florian Fox (34) has played his way onto some of the most renowned festival and club stages and into the heart of the US music metropolis of Nashville in roughly five years. He has been honored with both the Swiss cultural award “Prix Walo” and a certificate of recognition from the U.S. Congress. Florian Fox performed at the Hallenstadion in Zurich in March 2026 and is a special guest on Brad Paisley’s current “Truck Still Works World Tour.” \n2020\, Florian ventured to the music metropolis of Nashville\, where he recorded his first solo album “Made in U.S.A” with U.S. star Chuck Mead (BR5-49\, Musicians’ Hall of Fame) and shortly afterwards recorded an EP with original members of Johnny Cash’s band. Since then\, his career has taken a steep rise: In 2024\, he released his first live album on Swiss national television\, became a voting member of the US Country Music Association (CMA) and won a Texas Sounds Int. Country Music Award for “Entertainer of the Year” as well as a certificate of recognition from U.S. Congress. In October\, after an extensive tour through the States\, he performed at the legendary CMA Theater of the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Florian now regularly performs on the main stages of major country music festivals and high-class venues. In 2026\, he debuted at the Hallenstadion as well as The Hall\, Zurich alongside Brad Paisley. He has developed a stunning presence on the air and in the media (see select press on www.florianfox.com/press ). \nCollaborations with renowned international and national artists such as Drake Milligan (co-writing the single and the tour of the same name\, “True Love\,” February 2025) and Florian Ast (the single “Whiskey\,” March 2026) underscore his appeal as a sought-after performer and songwriter.

SUMMARY:Buffalo Traffic Jam — Mill & Mine — 9/20
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nBuffalo Traffic Jam is a folk band born in the heart of Bozeman\, Montana\, where its members\, Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross\, first crossed paths as students at Montana State University. United by a love for storytelling and the raw beauty of acoustic sound\, they began crafting music that evokes wide-open landscapes and the emotions that live quietly beneath the surface of everyday life. The result was a self-titled debut EP followed by singles “Rescue Me” and “Forgot Your Roots\,” the latter of which saw the band gain their first bit of online momentum\, leading to explosive growth in the past year. Their newest release\, the Take Me Home EP\, marks a defining moment in Buffalo Traffic Jam’s evolution—showcasing a deeper\, more expansive sound while staying grounded in the heartfelt lyricism and raw instrumentals that first won them fans. The\nproject weaves together themes of resilience\, nostalgia\, and self-discovery\, subjects that have become commonplace in the songwriting of Buffalo Traffic Jam. Since its release on Oct. 24\, the EP has picked up over 8 million streams across DSP’s.\nIn 2025 Buffalo Traffic Jam made their festival debuts at Under the Big Sky\, Redwest Fest\, and went on tour with country singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett. From dorm room jam sessions to packed venues across the US\, Buffalo Traffic Jam has stayed true to their roots.

SUMMARY:Summer Sessions - 9/19 - Shawn Camp / Verlon Thompson / Madelyn Tallent
DESCRIPTION:The event is free\, and takes place at the Museum of Appalachia in Clinton\, TN! Have some fun with The ORNL Summer Sessions! \n  \nShawn Camp began playing guitar as a small child\, growing up outside Perryville\, Arkansas. Mandolin and fiddle followed\, all before he could drive. He remembers dreaming of melodies\, waking up\, and being able to play them. “I just always loved music. It’s been my everything\, really\,” Camp says. “My dad worked out of state\, so we moved around a lot. Whenever we’d go somewhere\, I’d carry a stack of records and a little record player with my guitar. Music was my only constant––that\, and my mom and dad.” \nA prodigy who never knew how to be anything but\, Camp moved to Nashville at 20\, and found early gigs playing with the Osborne Brothers\, Jerry Reed\, Alan Jackson\, Shelby Lynne\, and Trisha Yearwood. Then\, he really started writing––and singing with sly grace\, smooth but earthy. Camp released his first solo album\, Shawn Camp\, on the Reprise (Warner Bros.) label\, but found his biggest success as a songwriter\, penning hits for Willie Nelson\, Garth Brooks\, Brooks & Dunn\, Josh Turner\, Blake Shelton\, George Strait\, and many others. He became a trusted collaborator of John Prine\, Loretta Lynn\, and of course\, Clark\, with whom he wrote constantly\, and toured occasionally. When Clark won a Grammy in 2014 for his final album\, My Favorite Picture of You\, Camp took home a statue as one of the record’s producers. In 2015\, Camp took home another Grammy\, this time\, as lead vocalist for bluegrass supergroup the Earls of Leicester. \nSongwriters seem to flourish on the fertile Oklahoma plains. Woody Guthrie\, Roger Miller\, Leon Russell\, J.J. Cale and Jimmy Webb. Add Verlon Thompson to that list. \nThirty years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour serve as credentials. As a solo performer\, and as the trusted sidekick of Texas Americana songwriting icon Guy Clark\, Verlon has viewed the world from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma). \nAlong the way Verlon Thompson compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson\, Dierks Bentley\, Anne Murray\, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Kenny Rogers\, Randy Travis\, Del McCoury\, Sam Bush\, Trisha Yearwood and many more. \nVerlon has co-produced Guy Clark’s Grammy nominated cd “Cold Dog Soup” as well as “The Dark”\, “Workbench Songs” and “Somedays the Song Writes You”. \nEqually important in his songwriting and live performances\, Verlon’s guitar work cannot go unnoticed. His guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart\, Pam Tillis\, and many more\, including\, and especially Guy Clark. \n  \nMadelyn Tallent is a singer/songwriter particularly loving the folk/Americana side of country and some southern rock. \n  \nSupport for WDVX comes from ORNL Federal Credit Union!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/19 — Danny Kensy / Mary McGuinness
DESCRIPTION:“From Radio Waves to Festival Stages!” \nDanny Kensy is a nationally touring country artist and songwriter celebrated for his edgy–traditional sound and powerhouse live shows. With multiple #1s in the European market and a string of charting singles in the U.S.\, Kensy is carving his place on country radio. His U.S. debut “Neon Glow” broke into the Music Row Breakout Top 100\, followed by “Radio Back” (Top 60 Music Row\, Top 20 TRACtion True Indie)\, and fan favorites “That Old Wind\,” “Lonely Girl\,” and “Smoke With An Old Flame.” His moving tribute to Toby Keith\, “God’s Got His Cowboy\,” earned Song of the Year at the 2024 Josie Music Awards (Grand Ole Opry). \nRelentless on stage\, Kensy is known for three-to-four-hour marathon sets and a staggering 200+ shows a year. He has shared the stage with Brad Paisley\, Rascal Flatts\, Drew Baldridge\, Travis Tritt\, Randy Travis\, Florida Georgia Line\, Dierks Bentley\, and many more\, while also performing at major festivals such as the Carolina Country Music Fest. \nA decorated songwriter as well\, Kensy has received honors from Billboard\, the International Songwriting Contest\, and NSAI\, along with multiple Josie Music Awards including Modern Country Rising Star and Male Vocalist of the Year. Raw\, energetic\, and relentlessly hardworking\, Danny Kensy is a name to watch in today’s country music scene. \n \nMary McGuinness is a truly singular artist — a singer-songwriter whose voice has been described as “luminous\, soul-deep\, and clear as crystal.”\nBorn in Fort Hood\, Texas to a korean mother and irish-scottish father\, Mary’s childhood was shaped by resilience. After being separated from her mother as a child\, she was raised by her Grandfather in Long Island\, NY. \nMusic became both a sanctuary and a compass. Those formative experiences shaped a writer drawn to themes of belonging\, identity\, and hope.\nHer career began in opera\, studying at the Manhattan School of Music and performing in Europe before moving to Broadway\, where she understudied and performed the role of Tuptim in The King and I at the Neil Simon Theater. She also worked in film and fashion\, collaborating with acclaimed directors and major designers. Yet despite success in multiple worlds\, music remained her true north. \nRecording and touring for years under another name\, she scored a Billboard #1 and toured/supported legendary and contemporary artists alike (Kenny Loggins\, Counting Crows\, Train\, Donovan\, Shawn Colvin\,Todd Rundgren)\nHer music lives at the crossroads of folk-americana\, laurel canyon and classic country\, shaped by personal history and stories to tell. The album Shadowcatcher \, made in Nashville with producer Joe Pisapia (KD Lang/Ben Folds)\, marked a turning point toward her most authentic voice\, and most recently\, new recordings at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals\, AL produced by Dylan Le Blanc\, will start releasing in 2026.

SUMMARY:Son Volt — Live at the Bijou — 9/18
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAfter spearheading the alt-country movement with Uncle Tupelo\, Jay Farrar pursued his vision with Son Volt\, who recorded three landmark albums in the ’90s before the groundbreaking artist put the band on extended hiatus and cut three solo LPs. Missing the free exchange of ideas and the surprises that inevitably occur when a group of simpatico musicians lock together\, Farrar assembled a new lineup of Son Volt in 2004 and has since released nine albums. The latest album\, Sound Signal Serenades\, was released as a special 2026 Record Store Day limited edition LP. Jay Farrar’s work often seeks out the ghosts of America’s discordant or forgotten past\, converses at length with them\, and writes songs that stake a claim to a better future. \n— \nThom Jurek at All Music said it best\, “Only Gram Parsons‘ term “Cosmic American Music” begins to touch her mercurial\, changeling roots aesthetic\, … McNally is a Zen-like\, post-Beat song poet”. For those who have followed McNally’s nearly twenty year career the thing that most sticks with the listener about her\, is the timeless effortlessness that she brings to all she does. With a long catalog and longer list of peers with whom she has written\, recorded and toured\, McNally continues to turn out great music that defies blatant genre-fication. \nAt home across the American (Americana) music spectrum\, the Grammy nominee who’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990’s with bands like Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks\, writes as well as she interprets the songs of others\, has a top tier musicality to her craft\, a soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour’s wanderlust\, not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an excellent electric guitar player. \nLike her anti-hero heros J.J. Cale\, Tom Waits\, Bob Dylan. Dr. John\, and Jim Dickinson\, McNally knows who she serves. She serves the song. Her quiet but steady plodding through the many layers of the business of music\, hasn’t ever been rewarded with massive fame and fortune but in time that slow burn has become the treasure in and of itself. \nThe part of McNally’s narrative that is often missed is that not only has she self-managed herself for nearly all of her career but that she has also been a stout warrior-like-artist who often went toe-to-toe with label heads and A&R to defend and fight for her visions. She left the major label world after ten years at Capital/EMI to fend for herself on various smaller labels and self-release paradigms. Perhaps the business of music is finally catching up with her independent spirit. We shall see.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/17 — Wiser Time / Cody Gentry and The Buffalo Show
DESCRIPTION:Carmen Sclafani\, professionally known as Wiser Time\, is a vocalist\, songwriter\, guitarist and producer from New Jersey\, USA. His work has received recognition for it’s soulful vocals and musical style which consists of concept albums that blend rock\, Americana\, blues and folk influences. Wiser Time’s debut album was There And Back Again (2006)\, followed by All For One (2008)\, Beggars And Thieves (2010)\, XII (2012) and Within (2017). Following the release of the EP\, “Worlds Collide\,” in 2020\, Wiser Time released the 7-track album titled\, “All Fired Up\,” in 2024. \n\n\nWiser Time was formed in 2001 by singer/songwriter/guitarist\, Carmen Sclafani\, in the small town of Millington\, New Jersey\, USA\, just outside of New York City. He had been working in art and design during the days while performing in coffee-houses and clubs of New Jersey and New York during the evenings\, becoming a fixture in the local music scene. \nSclafani wrote and recorded material that would eventually become Wiser Time’s first full-length album\, “There And Back Again\,“ in the fall of 2006 with producer Anthony Krizan (Amphibian\, Lenny Kravitz\, Spin Doctors). The album was received well and radio stations began playing it while Sclafani continued to perform throughout the New Jersey/New York area\, as well as stops across the United States to the California coast. \nWiser Time’s second full-length album\, “All For One\,“ was recorded and released on February 1\, 2008 and was a raw and emotional album that was heavily influenced by the weight of the times. Jerry Ewing of Classic Rock Magazine wrote\, “It’s fluidly enjoyable stuff…rocking hard\,” * giving the album 7/10 stars. \nSclafani also spent time exploring some of his earlier folk work\, and was inspired to write and record a selection of stripped-down songs including the acoustic ballad\, “Looking For Bob Dylan“ and the emotional “What You Give – Unplugged.“ \n \nCody Gentry has found his voice and honed in his skills in every music hall\, bar\, and coffeehouse he has played\, with his only intention being to connect his music with the people listening. Cody has spent the last five years playing music around the southeast\, all the while listening\, studying\, and seeking what every writer needs: Inspiration. The road for inspiration took Cody back to his home\, the vibrant and often perilous foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. \nWith a desire to pay homage to the foothills and the storytellers of his youth\, Cody recorded his first album\, Blue Ridge Gold. This debut album was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dean Miller. Blue Ridge Gold is set to release this year\, of which two singles have been receiving radio airplay on satellite and terrestrial. The album tackles subjects of love\, hearbreak\, victory\, and vindication through clouds of fiction and reality. Cody now travels with two bandmates\, of whom are multi-instrumentalists and lifelong friends. Performing as a three-piece band\, Cody Gentry has crowds singing along while focusing on the carefully crafted lyrics of his songs.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/16 — Lance Cowan
DESCRIPTION:Lance Cowan carves stories from the quiet moments others overlook. His music fuses Americana’s raw edges with folk’s intimacy and roots-rock’s steady pulse\, creating soundscapes where every note serves a purpose. His lyrics cut through sentimentality with surgical precision—conversational yet carefully crafted\, revealing truths about relationships and identity through specific\, unembellished details. \nCowan’s songwriting demonstrates remarkable restraint\, trusting listeners to find meaning in what’s left unsaid as much as what’s explicitly stated.  Live performances showcase his understated mastery—no theatrics\, just a man with a guitar creating space for songs to breathe. Cowan’s work embodies a rare commitment to substance over style\, proving that the most powerful stories don’t need to shout to be heard.

SUMMARY:J2B2 (John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band) — Clayton Center — 9/15
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nJ2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary\, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar\, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo\, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship\, incomparable songwriting\, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. \nJorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California\, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John’s band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson’s guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nHerb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician\, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman\, Earl Scruggs\, Gram Parsons\, Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Stephen Stills\, Linda Ronstadt\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Jackson Browne and John Denver. \nMark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He’s toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks\, Alan Jackson\, Travis Tritt\, Dwight Yoakam\, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton\, as well as producing many artists in jazz\, country\, bluegrass and gospel genres. \nPatrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin and banjo\, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in “The Mighty Wind.” \nJ2B2’s debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. The album was recently released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition\, 3-CD box set called DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records)\, which has received vast critical acclaim. DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 – From The Crow’s Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet – Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson – Gifts From The Flood(instrumental electric guitar). \nIn addition to recording their first album as a group\, J2B2 has played several major tour dates over the course of the past two and a half years\, including tours of Norway and the UK\, performances at the annual RockyGrass Festival in Lyons\, Colorado; the Joe Val Festival in Framingham\, Massachusetts; and headlining the Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain\, Colorado\, three years in a row. J2B2 made its Grand Ole Opry debut in October 2013 and has returned several times to the Opry since. \nJ2B2 has created quite a buzz\, and The International Bluegrass Music Association is among the many giving the newly formed band’s live performance high marks. In a review\, the IBMA noted\, “There was warmth\, and storytelling\, and lots of laughter as this fresh band of legends made their debut…but with their expertise combined\, you would think they had been playing in this configuration for years.” \nYes! Weekly in Greensboro\, NC has noted of J2B2: “Expect fireworks and amazing playing from some of the best string players in the world.” \nLearn more at johnjorgenson.com.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 9/15 — Xanthe Alexis with Ben Matthews / Richie Owens with Bob Ocker
DESCRIPTION:Xanthe Alexis is unmistakable for her powerful voice and enchanting lyrics. The singular aura of magic surrounding her is a reflection\, in equal measure\, of her birth in the Superstition Mountains in Mesa\, Arizona. Her childhood was steeped in the mysticism of blended cultures and gave her a passion and sensitivity for the unseen world of Spirit. Her Mother introduced her to the likes of Linda Rondstat\, Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald at an early age. She began writing songs just before her beloved sister died of heart disease. This gave Xanthe an additional window into the depth of pain and the need for a language in which we can speak the expanse of human emotion. \n \nNashville may be known around the world as Music City USA\, but anyone who lives there knows the real roots of the music are not always found under the brightest lights. \nIf you want authentic\, roots-driven Americana — the kind built from family\, faith\, fables\, bloodlines\, hardship\, humor\, and old mountain truth — you need to find the room where Richie Owens is playing. \nRichie Owens did not come to Nashville chasing a version of country music. He was born into it. \nA fifth-generation Appalachian musician\, storyteller\, producer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist\, Richie grew up surrounded by the sounds of East Tennessee\, the Smoky Mountains\, old-time gospel\, early country\, folk ballads\, mountain blues\, and the working-class stories that shaped American roots music. His family history runs deep through the same soil that gave the world Dolly Parton\, Tennessee mountain music\, and the lasting traditions of Appalachian song. \nRichie has toured the world as a member of Dolly Parton’s band\, performed on major international stages\, produced and recorded with legendary artists\, and worked across music\, film\, and storytelling for decades. But at the heart of what he does now is something more intimate\, more personal\, and more powerful: carrying the story of Appalachia forward.

SUMMARY:Here Come the Mummies with The Jaystorm Project — 9/12
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nHere Come the Mummies is an eight-piece funk-rock band of 5000 year-old Egyptian Mummies with a one-track mind. Their “Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave” is sure to get you into them (and possibly vice versa).\n\nSince their discovery\, HCTM has been direct support for P-Funk\, Al Green\, Mavis Staples\, KC and the Sunshine Band\, and Cheap Trick; rocked Super Bowl Village; become a regular on The Bob and Tom Show; appeared on That’s My Jam with Jimmy Fallon; played massive festivals like Summer Fest\, Summer Camp\, Bluesfest Byron Bay\, Musikfest\, and Suwannee Hulaween; and sold tickets by the thousands across large swaths of North America. Maybe that’s why the ladies (and some dudes) can’t stop losing their minds over these mayhem-inducing mavens of mirth.\n\nSome say they were cursed after deflowering a great Pharaoh’s daughter. Others claim they are reincarnated Grammy-Winning studio musicians. Regardless\, HCTM’s mysterious personas\, cunning song-craft\, and unrelenting live show will bend your brain\, and melt your face. Get ready! Here Come The Mummies.
