SUMMARY:Tennessee Shines with The Montvales and Garrett Boys — Live at Bluetick Tavern — 8/19
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nTennessee Shines returns to Bluetick Tavern and Tap in downtown Maryville on Wednesday\, August 19 at 7:00 PM. This live concert and radio show features The Montvales and Garrett Boys. Doors open at 6:00 PM! All ages are welcome. \nBorn and raised in Knoxville\, TN\, Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of The Montvales spent much of their formative years busking amidst the Elvis impersonators and musical saw players of the town’s Market Square\, honing their uniquely boisterous harmonies and perfecting the art of people-watching. Some fifteen years later\, the two are still at it-maintaining their study of the robust chaos of the commons as they tour the country playing their descriptive\, textured songs on the self-described “feral outskirts of country music.”  Their lyrics tackle everything from heartbreak to gentrification to abortion rights\, pulling audiences in alongside their well-worn harmonies and nearly telepathic musical connection.   \nIn 2020\, the Montvales recorded their first album Heartbreak Summer Camp in a living room. The stripped-down\, DIY folksongs span their young adulthood\, beginning in their teens and taking them through their mid 20s. Then\, seeking a more polished\, full-band sound\, the duo recorded their next album Born Strangers at Sean Sullivan’s Tractor Shed Studio in Goodlettsville\, TN\, recruiting Nashville stalwart Mike Eli LoPinto (guitarist for Chris Stapleton\, producer of Emily Nenni’s On the Ranch) to produce it.  The record garnered them a dedicated cult following and has been featured by outlets such as Holler\, American Songwriter\, Twangville\, and more.   \nThe Montvales have gone on to share the stage with bands like Willy Tea Taylor and the Fellership\, The Local Honeys\, James McMurtry\, and Mama’s Broke\, and have appeared at festivals such as Healing Appalachia and the Old Quarter Songwriter Festival.  In 2025 they signed with Free Dirt Records to release the single “Loud and Clear”\, with a hint at more new music to come.   \nEvery family has its own unique history\, a timeline fleshed out by memorable characters\, milestone events\, and the stories passed on through the decades that bind it all together. For the Garrett Boys\, a family trio from Overton County in east Tennessee\, their history just happens to lend itself to some excellent Appalachian folk music. \nMade up of brothers Stephen and Russell Garrett\, and Stephen’s son Carter\, the Garrett Boys are rooted\, both musically and physically\, in 500 hilly\, wooded acres that have had a magnetic pull over their family for generations. The men refer to it simply as “The Land\,” and it’s the setting for nearly every one of the 11 songs on It Runs Deep\, the trio’s debut album. \n“About 200 years ago\, some Garrett boys came from North Carolina and settled in that area\,” says Stephen\, who plays acoustic guitar and sings lead in the band. “Some old records say that they acquired land between Mill Creek and Mitchell Creek\, and that’s the property that Russell and I grew up on. Carter will be the ninth generation to live on it.” \nBut while the land is specific to the Garrett Boys\, the album the group wrote about it is universal. Produced by Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle\, Lucinda Williams)\, It Runs Deep contains elements of bluegrass\, folk\, and country\, but refuses to play it safe. It nods to their varied influences\, from Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell to Chris Knight and Hank Williams Jr. \nWith It Runs Deep\, the Garrett Boys memorialize those family stories — for themselves\, for their descendants\, and now for fans of classic American folk music. \n“Our music is about the importance and depth of family and community\,” Stephen says. “It’s a mix of what we have been versus what we can become\, and how we can take the good from all that and build a future.” \nSponsored by Corona and Tennessee Stone!

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 8/20 — Becca Tremmel
DESCRIPTION:Becca Tremmel: \n“So\, I was born in Hackensack\, NJ in 1994. I am the middle child of three.  My big sister is my role model and she currently studying fashion (and she’s sort of perfect)\, and my little brother is a newly engaged\, skiing obsessed hooligan who looks exactly like me. My family moved to Sundance\, UT when I was four. I went to the Sundance Mountain School and spent most of my time hiking Mount Timpanogos and learning about all about wildlife. We technically didn’t have a “math class” but please ask me anything about owls\, elk\, or mountain lions. I probably most definitely know the answer… unlike math. I spent hours and hours riding my horse\, Jazzie; hiking and skiing that mountain with my late\, great Bernese Mountain Dog\, Cassie. \nAnd then\, of course\, there was music at the crazy young age of five I began to create and memorize melodies and lyrics and started to understand song structure. My favorite singers were Hannah Montana and Avril Lavigne (naturally) but honestly my world was shook the moment I heard “Teardrops on my Guitar” by Taylor Swift. I was sold. I wanted to be a songwriter. \nI started taking drum lessons at  six and continued until I realized that writing and melodies were more my thing. I wanted to tell stories so I started learning how to play guitar\, taking voice lessons and writing in my journal.  At 15 I wrote my first song\, “Maybe.”  It was a song about a boy who broke my heart. Typical. \nWhen I was about 10 years old The Bluebird Cafe started visiting the Sundance Resort during the Summertime. I was absolutely wonderstruck by these legends who from a magical and must-be mythical place called\, Nashville. Also\, they were visiting MY mountain all the way out in Utah. The Bluebird inspired me to pursue my passion of writing songs and telling stories and I set my sights on Nashville.  Along the way I attended a summer clinic at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and was then accepted to the songwriting program and the voice program\, but I knew Nashville was my destination.  Now I am a graduate from Belmont University’s songwriting program in Nashville. I spent 2019 sailing around the world as a cruise ship musician which was WILD\, but I found my way back to Nashville. \nAfter returning from the 7 seas I decided to really pursue the whole artist thing. I started playing full band shows around Nash with my all female band !! I put out a couple of songs\, my first music video and I even started to develop my team. It’s been an amazing journey and yet I only feel like it’s the beginning. \nI hope to be here for a long\, long time. Nashville is the greatest town in the world.  I love playing at venues around town and can’t believe the insanely talented people I am meeting. \nWhen I am not singing and playing you can find me riding horses\, shooting arrows\, spelunking\, skiing\, rescuing wildlife\, having earnest conversations with my cats\, watching my talented friends play music around town or running a coffee shop.”

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 8/22 — Mason Cole / Stefani Morton
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Shelby\, North Carolina\, Mason Cole’s musical journey began at age eleven with a Christmas guitar and a head full of curiosity. He spent his early days glued to YouTube\, teaching himself the riffs that lit his imagination on fire. By twelve\, he’d enrolled in a junior high guitar class—mostly\, as he puts it\, “an excuse to play guitar during school hours.” Already ahead of the curve\, Mason quickly found himself drawn to something deeper: songwriting. \n“I grew up riding shotgun with my dad\, listening to Willie Nelson\, George Jones\, and Keith Whitley everywhere we went. Those were my heroes before I even knew what that meant. Later on\, I discovered Americana and Red Dirt—Jason Isbell\, Sturgill Simpson\, Tyler Childers—and it was like finding a new branch of the same family tree.” \nGrounded\, determined\, and unafraid of hard work\, Mason spends his days with Simmons Structural Movers\, helping his father relocate houses and mobile homes. That work ethic carried naturally into his music. At fifteen\, he began crafting his first project\, Lonesome Again\, recorded entirely in a makeshift “poor man’s studio” he and his father built from carpet padding and insulation behind their home. Mason recorded\, mixed\, and mastered all fifteen original tracks himself—a testament to his drive and resourcefulness. \n\n\nAs his career gained momentum\, Mason began sharing festival stages with artists he once looked up to from afar\, including Shenandoah\, Lainey Wilson\, Corey Smith\, and more. In 2023—during the final week of his high school career—he performed a 10-show residency at the MGM in Las Vegas\, a defining showcase that highlighted his fast-rising trajectory. Later that same year\, at just eighteen\, he signed his first record deal with Santa Anna/Sony Music\, marking a major milestone and solidifying his emergence as a standout voice in modern country and Americana. \nWith his band The Hellbenders\, Mason Cole steps into a louder\, more rock-driven chapter. The new album brings grit\, energy\, and a fresh edge while staying true to his roots. \n \nStefani Morton is a singer-songwriter\, visual artist\, actor\, and former educator from South Carolina. Now residing in Nashville\, Stefani is an active member of ASCAP\, NSAI\, ISSA and AMA. Her recent song releases\, ‘Hey Boy’ and ‘Man Crush\,’ were featured in the March/April 2024 issues of Lazie Indie Magazine. Stefani has also been featured in Canvas Rebel Magazine and Nashville Voyager. She was recently nominated for the Marquis 2024 Who’s Who Directory and has appeared in music videos for emerging pop/country artists Shaboozey and Dax. Following a near-fatal bout with sepsis in August 2023\, Stefani relocated to Nashville just eight weeks later. Despite overcoming significant health challenges\, including a year on crutches and canes\, she performed over 100 shows in Nashville in 2024. Stefani recently underwent successful hip replacement surgery at Vanderbilt\, where the infection had spread. She is fully recovered and enjoys creating art and calling Nashville home. Notably\, she is a distant cousin of Patsy Cline\, and her great-grandfather\, Bradley\, was a fiddler in the Buffalo Bill Cody Show. \nSince moving to Nashville\, Stefani has made notable accomplishments in the acting world. She has appeared in music videos with well-known entertainers such as Shaboozey and Dax. Her role as a widow in Dax’s Lonely Dirt Road Alonehas reached over 40 million views. \nShe has also been featured in films directed by Ricky Burkell\, including The Freak Off and Dating My Past\, now streaming on Prime Video\, Apple TV\, and YouTube. \nIn addition\, Stefani has worked in commercials for companies such as Bentley Pontoons and Brookdale Senior Living Community Centers\, among others.

As a teenager\, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player\, and by his early twenties\, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 8/24 — Dan Raza / Sam Mooney
DESCRIPTION:PLUCKED while still a student to tour with Joan Armatrading\, and championed by Neil Young on his ‘Living With War’ website\, Dan Raza has spent the first chapter of his career weaving folk troubadour magic around the clubs and halls of the UK and Europe while quietly building a reputation as one of the UK’s best-kept musical secrets. \nWith two critically-acclaimed albums under his belt\, the singer-songwriter\, whose roots lie in folk\, Americana and lyrical pop balladry\, has won support along the way from some of the biggest names in folk music\, such as Rodney Crowell (“great voice and fine arranging sensibilities”)\, Tom Paxton (“killer songs”) and John McCutcheon (“one of my favourite discoveries of recent years”)\, and has long been tipped for wider mainstream recognition. \nNow with the release of his third LP –  Wayfarer – that could happen. While the core elements of his music remain rooted in the troubadour tradition\, the album’s eclectic mix of styles – ranging from soul\, folk\, blues\, country\, Tin Pan Alley\, and Britpop – betoken a wider appeal. With shades of Jackson Browne\, Bruce Springsteen\, Roy Orbison and Bill Withers\, Raza’s latest offering could well be the one to reach a mainstream audience. \n \n“My name is Sam Mooney. I’m a musician from Mississippi\, and I’m lucky enough to have the privilege of making music for you. \nFor as long as I can remember\, few things have brought me as much joy as music. Whether it’s going to a show\, playing piano\, or jamming to music in the car with friends\, I just love it. Naturally\, a life working in the music industry is the dream I decided to chase! \nOver the last several years\, I’ve spent most of my free time on the road playing shows. In that time\, I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities. I’ve gotten to open for and share the stage with some of my favorite bands and musicians\, record and release three projects\, and travel around the country performing. Most importantly\, however\, I’ve gotten make countless new friends on the journey. \nMy hope is to write music that will speak into your life. Music that will bring you joy. Music that will be a soundtrack to whatever lies ahead on your journey. My goal is to put on fun and exciting shows that will allow you to escape into a special musical experience and make great memories. Hopefully\, I’ll even get to meet you at a show sometime! \nThere’s so much more I could say\, but I’ll leave the conversation with you to be continued in person or on social media. My links can be found at the bottom of the page! \nThanks again for being here. It’s only because of you that I get to make music.”

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special — 8/27 — Jennifer Alvarado / Maynard and the Musties
DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Alvarado is redefining what it means to be a country artist in today’s music scene. With a sound that fuses the heartfelt storytelling of 90s country with the raw\, unfiltered honesty of alternative rock\, her music has been described as “Deana Carter meets Alanis Morissette.” But Jennifer isn’t just another artist blending genres—she’s a truth-teller\, a fighter\, and a voice for those who have ever felt out of place. Her songs are unflinchingly personal\, yet universally relatable\, tackling love\, loss\, trauma\, and redemption with a fearless honesty that sets her apart. \nBorn and raised in Hickory\, North Carolina\, Alvarado’s love for music was sparked at the age of four when her grandfather first placed a guitar in her hands. Growing up\, she found her voice singing in church and school performances\, but a devastating loss and relentless bullying in middle school silenced her for years. While others saw her talent\, she struggled with crippling performance anxiety\, choosing instead to write in secret. It wasn’t until her mid-teens\, when she picked up the guitar again and began leading worship\, that she slowly reclaimed her confidence. \nAlvarado’s path to music wasn’t a straight shot. Despite earning a music scholarship\, she ultimately pursued a degree in Political Science and Family Ministries\, preparing for a future in law and ministry. She worked as an Intellectual Property Paralegal\, led worship at two churches\, and taught guitar and ukulele on the side. But music never stopped calling. In 2020\, facing a crossroads\, she decided to take a chance — submitting her music to Indie Star Radio. The response was immediate and overwhelming\, leading to her being named Country Artist of the Year in 2021. From that moment\, there was no turning back. \nSince then\, Jennifer has become one of the most relentless independent artists in country music\, performing over 200 shows a year across the country. She’s played legendary venues like The Viper Room\, intimate clubs on the California coast\, and countless stages across NC\, TN\, GA\, VA\, SC\, CT\, KY\, and TX. Her goal? To play all 50 states and bring her music to international audiences. While she’s been told she’s “not redneck enough” for country music and “too old” to chase a dream\, she refuses to let the industry define her. Instead\, she writes and sings on her own terms\, creating music that resonates with those searching for something deeper than another whiskey-soaked party anthem. \nBeyond the music\, Jennifer is deeply passionate about using her platform to make a difference. She is actively involved in Celebrate Recovery\, prison ministry\, and organizations supporting women overcoming addiction and homelessness. She volunteers at various local recovery based ministries in North Carolina\, Tennessee Oncology in Nashville\, and Meals on Wheels.  Jennifer Alvarado is more than a musician — she is a storyteller\, an advocate\, and proof that resilience and faith can carve out a space where none seemed to exist. She isn’t chasing fame or fortune. She’s chasing meaning\, moments\, and the chance to remind others that their voice\, their dreams\, and their stories matter. \n \nMaynard and the Musties will perform as well!

SUMMARY:Amy Speace with Special Guest Robinella
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nAMY SPEACE – Nashville \nHeralded by Rolling Stone\, The New York Times\, Billboard Magazine and NPR’s “Weekend Edition\,” Amy Speace was discovered in 2005 by Judy Collins\, who signed her to her record label and released her debut “Songs For Bright Street” on her own Wildflower Records. Judy championed Amy early in her career\, taking her on the road with her and recording her song\, “The Weight of the World\,” calling it one of the best folk songs she’d heard in decades. Amy had been living and playing the NYC downtown coffeehouse scene\, having moved to NYC after Amherst College to study classical acting. In the mid-1990’s\, she co- founded Five Points Theater Company\, which produced works of unknown plays by voices out of the demographic of the lower east side\, introducing work by Hispanic and African American authors\, as well as new versions of Shakespeare’s plays recasting them in the voices of the immigrant experience. A classically-trained singer (she almost went to Eastman Conservatory\, but wanted to be a writer as well as a singer\, and didn’t want to commit to opera at the time) and a long time musician and poet\, she picked up a used guitar in a pawn shop on St. Mark’s Place and learned a few chords from the “boyfriend in a band.” After writing only a few songs\, she was invited to play a gig at The Bitter End by Kenny Gorka who’d heard her and compared her to Joan Baez. In 2009\, Amy relocated to Nashville after signing a record and management deal with Thirty Tigers and has since\, released 8 critically-acclaimed records\, most in collaboration with Grammy- nominated producer/songwriter Neilson Hubbard. “The Blue Rock Session\,” her 10 th solo album\, was released in December 2025 and reached #1 immediately on the Folk Radio Charts\, as did her previous three albums. She’s the 2020 winner of the AMA UK’s International Song of the Year for her song\, “Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne.” She has been featured on NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and in a segment for “Marketplace.” Craig Havighurst of Nashville’s WMOT radio calls her “Sublime and inimitable…Speace has been one of [Nashville’s] premiere folk artists of the last decade.” Amy has played many festivals around the world\, including Rocky Mountain Folks Festival\, Philadelphia Folk Festival\, Glastonbury Music Festival\, legacy stages like The Grand Ole Opry and The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and is a favorite of “Mountain Stage Radio.” A well-respected writer\, she’s had essays published in The New York Times\, No Depression\, Working Mother Magazine\, Salon.com and leads workshops in songwriting and performance. Her forthcoming debut collection of poetry\, The Cardinals\, will be published by Red Hen Press on September 1\, 2026. In 2025 she published To The Performer: A Handbook for Singer-Songwriters. She holds an MFA in poetry from Spalding University. \n  \nSPECIAL GUEST: East Tennessee’s Favorite – Robin Ella Bailey \nRobinella’s career began with a sort of luck that rarely comes to most artists within their lifetime. What started out as a simple husband-and-wife duo fresh out of college quickly grew to a full-fledged band that blended Bluegrass\, Country and Jazz. The combination of Robinella’s honey-sweet vocals with violin\, mandolin\, bass\, drums and piano captivated audiences\, thus creating the ever popular Robinella & the CC Stringband.\nThey released their first album\, self-titled Robinella and The CC Stringband\, in 2000\, which quickly followed\, No Saint\, No Prize in 2001. Both were on the independent label Big Gulley Records. With a few simple twists of fate\, what followed was a whirlwind of rapid success – Columbia Records liked what they heard and signed Robinella in 2002. The label took seven songs from the band’s two prior albums and released them as the CD Blanket for My Soul and then released a full album in 2003\, Robinella and the CC Stringband. This led to a national tour including opening for such artists as Bob Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, Earl Scruggs\, Nickel Creek\, Robert Earl Keen\, Kasey Chambers\, Del McCoury and Rodney Crowell as well as an appearance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and a music video on CMT for their hit single\, “Man Over”. She also performed on NPR’s “Mountain Stage\,” appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and performed on PBS’s “SoundStage.” In 2006\, Robinella was nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the Americana Music Awards and released her fourth album\, “Solace for the Lonely”\, on Dualtone Records in Nashville.\nBut then life\, as it has a tendency to do\, threw a few curveballs her way. She became a mom and a couple of years later\, she and her husband/musical partner split up with a new record almost completed. Exhausted and somewhat disillusioned with the industry and its promises\, it was time to regroup\, redefine and get back to her roots. So she returned to her home\, the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains\, and got back in touch with what she truly wanted – love\, family\, friendship\, music\, art\, truth.\nWith that comes her latest release\, “Fly Away Bird”\, her most mature work. However\, within the melancholy and touches of sadness there is not true despair. For such a voice — that dazzling\, warm\, bright-as-summer-sunshine soprano — to even communicate it would most likely defy certain laws of emotional physics. No\, instead\, this album\, beneath the disappointments\, she is brimming with optimism — with hope. You can feel it\, and even more important than that\, you believe — because she believes\, and because her music is so honest and so genuine and so forthright that you just can’t help but knowing that this is an artist who still finds life to be magical.

SUMMARY:Earl Scruggs Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAt the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains\, just miles from Earl Scruggs’ Cleveland County birthplace\, the Earl Scruggs Music Festival is where the music comes home. Set across the rolling\, walkable grounds of Tryon International Equestrian Center\, this multi-day celebration honors the three-finger banjo innovator who changed American music forever—while inviting a new generation to pick\, play\, and push the sound forward. Presented in partnership with the Earl Scruggs Center and WNCW-FM\, the festival blends bluegrass\, Americana\, and roots into something both reverent and restless—just like Earl himself. \nIn just a few short years\, Scruggs Fest has become one of the most talked-about gatherings in roots music—named 2025 Event of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association and praised by The Bluegrass Situation for “raising the bar for bluegrass festivals.” From once-in-a-lifetime collaborations to headline sets by icons and boundary-breakers alike\, the stages echo with the far-reaching influence of a man whose style reshaped the banjo—and the soundtrack of America. As Rolling Stone declared\, “Banjo reigns supreme\,” and by weekend’s end—when voices rise together in “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”—you can feel it: this is more than a festival. It’s a reunion. A revival. A reminder. \nBut beyond the spotlight moments and star-studded sets\, what truly defines the Earl Scruggs Music Festival is its spirit. Campers swapping tunes at sunrise. Junior Appalachian Musician Students finding their footing onstage. Families dancing barefoot. Friends returning year after year\, saying\, “We wouldn’t miss this for anything.” It’s a place rooted in tradition but alive with possibility—where legends mingle with newcomers\, where workshops and jam sessions spark inspiration\, and where the banner’s promise rings true: The Music Is Coming Home. Whether you’re a lifelong picker or simply chasing that sound in your bones\, there’s a spot for you here. Welcome home.

SUMMARY:WDVX Summer Nights - 9/9 - The Jason Carter Band / The Asheville Mountain Boys
DESCRIPTION:WDVX Summer Nights\nWednesday\, September 9\, 2026 | Doors 6:00 PM | Show 7:00 PM\nYee-Haw Brewing\, Knoxville\, TN\nFREE | All Ages \nWDVX is proud to present another night of free live music on the big stage at Yee-Haw Brewing for the 2026 Summer Nights concert series! \n  \nIn Lloyd\, Kentucky\, on U.S. 23\, there’s a sign on the Country Music Highway dedicated to renowned fiddler Jason Carter. It was placed there because of his other accomplishments—the Grammy awards\, the worldwide tours\, and the many other accolades he’s earned through his music. But for Carter\, joining the legendary names honored on that stretch of highway just might mean the most. “There’s a certain sound that’s up there that you just don’t hear anywhere else\,” he says. “I think that played a big part in how I sound today.” \nTrue to those Kentucky roots\, Carter continues to pour all he has back into bluegrass. For thirty years\, he has been the fiddle player for the Del McCoury Band—the most awarded group in bluegrass history. He’s won three Grammy awards\, including 2018’s “Best Bluegrass Album” with the Travelin’ McCourys\, of which he is a founding member. And he’s taken home five IBMAs for “Fiddle Player of the Year\,” a staggering number that isn’t quite so crazy once you realize just how many bluegrass greats have turned to Carter for collaboration. \nAs a fiddler\, Carter has been featured on albums by Steve Earle\, Ricky Skaggs\, Dierks Bentley\, Charlie Daniels\, Vince Gill\, Asleep at the Wheel\, and many more\, all in addition to his tireless touring and recording with Del as well as the Travelin’ McCourys. On Carter’s forthcoming solo album\, Lowdown Hoedown\, listeners may recognize instrumental contributions from such legends as Jerry Douglas or Sam Bush alongside vocals from young trailblazers like Sarah Jarosz or Billy Strings. This time\, though\, Carter is singing lead. \n  \nBy their name\, you know where they are from\, and by their sound\, you know what they are about. The Asheville Mountain Boys are on a mission to capture not just the style but the spirit of traditional bluegrass. Asheville\, NC has long been known for great music and its roots in bluegrass go back to the founding of the genre (Bill Monroe’s first broadcast performance as the Bluegrass Boys was at Asheville radio station WWNC in 1938) A group that firmly stakes its claim to the tradition of the music from the area\, The Asheville Mountain Boys spring onto the scene with a thought\, ”What happened to bluegrass?” It’s not a disparaging one that condemns current styles in the genre but rather asks\, “Why do we love this music in the first place” and answers with an approach that is true to the originators of the genre in the sense of both style and philosophy. Bluegrass is raw emotion\, excitement\, drive\, and authenticity. It is not sanitized or compromised but a reflection of the lives of those who play it. It’s storytelling that follows a throughline of tradition. \n  \nThanks to our sponsors: Yee-Haw Brewing\, ORNL Federal Credit Union\, and Garza Law. \n

SUMMARY:J2B2 (John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band) — Clayton Center — 9/15
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nJ2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary\, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar\, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo\, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship\, incomparable songwriting\, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. \nJorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California\, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John’s band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson’s guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nHerb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician\, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman\, Earl Scruggs\, Gram Parsons\, Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Stephen Stills\, Linda Ronstadt\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Jackson Browne and John Denver. \nMark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He’s toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks\, Alan Jackson\, Travis Tritt\, Dwight Yoakam\, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton\, as well as producing many artists in jazz\, country\, bluegrass and gospel genres. \nPatrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin and banjo\, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in “The Mighty Wind.” \nJ2B2’s debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. The album was recently released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition\, 3-CD box set called DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records)\, which has received vast critical acclaim. DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 – From The Crow’s Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet – Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson – Gifts From The Flood(instrumental electric guitar). \nIn addition to recording their first album as a group\, J2B2 has played several major tour dates over the course of the past two and a half years\, including tours of Norway and the UK\, performances at the annual RockyGrass Festival in Lyons\, Colorado; the Joe Val Festival in Framingham\, Massachusetts; and headlining the Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain\, Colorado\, three years in a row. J2B2 made its Grand Ole Opry debut in October 2013 and has returned several times to the Opry since. \nJ2B2 has created quite a buzz\, and The International Bluegrass Music Association is among the many giving the newly formed band’s live performance high marks. In a review\, the IBMA noted\, “There was warmth\, and storytelling\, and lots of laughter as this fresh band of legends made their debut…but with their expertise combined\, you would think they had been playing in this configuration for years.” \nYes! Weekly in Greensboro\, NC has noted of J2B2: “Expect fireworks and amazing playing from some of the best string players in the world.” \nLearn more at johnjorgenson.com.

SUMMARY:Son Volt — Live at the Bijou — 9/18
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAfter spearheading the alt-country movement with Uncle Tupelo\, Jay Farrar pursued his vision with Son Volt\, who recorded three landmark albums in the ’90s before the groundbreaking artist put the band on extended hiatus and cut three solo LPs. Missing the free exchange of ideas and the surprises that inevitably occur when a group of simpatico musicians lock together\, Farrar assembled a new lineup of Son Volt in 2004 and has since released nine albums. The latest album\, Sound Signal Serenades\, was released as a special 2026 Record Store Day limited edition LP. Jay Farrar’s work often seeks out the ghosts of America’s discordant or forgotten past\, converses at length with them\, and writes songs that stake a claim to a better future. \n— \nThom Jurek at All Music said it best\, “Only Gram Parsons‘ term “Cosmic American Music” begins to touch her mercurial\, changeling roots aesthetic\, … McNally is a Zen-like\, post-Beat song poet”. For those who have followed McNally’s nearly twenty year career the thing that most sticks with the listener about her\, is the timeless effortlessness that she brings to all she does. With a long catalog and longer list of peers with whom she has written\, recorded and toured\, McNally continues to turn out great music that defies blatant genre-fication. \nAt home across the American (Americana) music spectrum\, the Grammy nominee who’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990’s with bands like Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks\, writes as well as she interprets the songs of others\, has a top tier musicality to her craft\, a soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour’s wanderlust\, not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an excellent electric guitar player. \nLike her anti-hero heros J.J. Cale\, Tom Waits\, Bob Dylan. Dr. John\, and Jim Dickinson\, McNally knows who she serves. She serves the song. Her quiet but steady plodding through the many layers of the business of music\, hasn’t ever been rewarded with massive fame and fortune but in time that slow burn has become the treasure in and of itself. \nThe part of McNally’s narrative that is often missed is that not only has she self-managed herself for nearly all of her career but that she has also been a stout warrior-like-artist who often went toe-to-toe with label heads and A&R to defend and fight for her visions. She left the major label world after ten years at Capital/EMI to fend for herself on various smaller labels and self-release paradigms. Perhaps the business of music is finally catching up with her independent spirit. We shall see.

SUMMARY:Summer Sessions - 9/19 - Shawn Camp / Verlon Thompson / Madelyn Tallent
DESCRIPTION:The event is free\, and takes place at the Museum of Appalachia in Clinton\, TN! Have some fun with The ORNL Summer Sessions! \n  \nShawn Camp began playing guitar as a small child\, growing up outside Perryville\, Arkansas. Mandolin and fiddle followed\, all before he could drive. He remembers dreaming of melodies\, waking up\, and being able to play them. “I just always loved music. It’s been my everything\, really\,” Camp says. “My dad worked out of state\, so we moved around a lot. Whenever we’d go somewhere\, I’d carry a stack of records and a little record player with my guitar. Music was my only constant––that\, and my mom and dad.” \nA prodigy who never knew how to be anything but\, Camp moved to Nashville at 20\, and found early gigs playing with the Osborne Brothers\, Jerry Reed\, Alan Jackson\, Shelby Lynne\, and Trisha Yearwood. Then\, he really started writing––and singing with sly grace\, smooth but earthy. Camp released his first solo album\, Shawn Camp\, on the Reprise (Warner Bros.) label\, but found his biggest success as a songwriter\, penning hits for Willie Nelson\, Garth Brooks\, Brooks & Dunn\, Josh Turner\, Blake Shelton\, George Strait\, and many others. He became a trusted collaborator of John Prine\, Loretta Lynn\, and of course\, Clark\, with whom he wrote constantly\, and toured occasionally. When Clark won a Grammy in 2014 for his final album\, My Favorite Picture of You\, Camp took home a statue as one of the record’s producers. In 2015\, Camp took home another Grammy\, this time\, as lead vocalist for bluegrass supergroup the Earls of Leicester. \nSongwriters seem to flourish on the fertile Oklahoma plains. Woody Guthrie\, Roger Miller\, Leon Russell\, J.J. Cale and Jimmy Webb. Add Verlon Thompson to that list. \nThirty years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour serve as credentials. As a solo performer\, and as the trusted sidekick of Texas Americana songwriting icon Guy Clark\, Verlon has viewed the world from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma). \nAlong the way Verlon Thompson compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson\, Dierks Bentley\, Anne Murray\, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Kenny Rogers\, Randy Travis\, Del McCoury\, Sam Bush\, Trisha Yearwood and many more. \nVerlon has co-produced Guy Clark’s Grammy nominated cd “Cold Dog Soup” as well as “The Dark”\, “Workbench Songs” and “Somedays the Song Writes You”. \nEqually important in his songwriting and live performances\, Verlon’s guitar work cannot go unnoticed. His guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart\, Pam Tillis\, and many more\, including\, and especially Guy Clark. \n  \nMadelyn Tallent is a singer/songwriter particularly loving the folk/Americana side of country and some southern rock. \n  \nSupport for WDVX comes from ORNL Federal Credit Union!

SUMMARY:Buffalo Traffic Jam — Mill & Mine — 9/20
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nBuffalo Traffic Jam is a folk band born in the heart of Bozeman\, Montana\, where its members\, Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross\, first crossed paths as students at Montana State University. United by a love for storytelling and the raw beauty of acoustic sound\, they began crafting music that evokes wide-open landscapes and the emotions that live quietly beneath the surface of everyday life. The result was a self-titled debut EP followed by singles “Rescue Me” and “Forgot Your Roots\,” the latter of which saw the band gain their first bit of online momentum\, leading to explosive growth in the past year. Their newest release\, the Take Me Home EP\, marks a defining moment in Buffalo Traffic Jam’s evolution—showcasing a deeper\, more expansive sound while staying grounded in the heartfelt lyricism and raw instrumentals that first won them fans. The\nproject weaves together themes of resilience\, nostalgia\, and self-discovery\, subjects that have become commonplace in the songwriting of Buffalo Traffic Jam. Since its release on Oct. 24\, the EP has picked up over 8 million streams across DSP’s.\nIn 2025 Buffalo Traffic Jam made their festival debuts at Under the Big Sky\, Redwest Fest\, and went on tour with country singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett. From dorm room jam sessions to packed venues across the US\, Buffalo Traffic Jam has stayed true to their roots.

SUMMARY:The Devil Makes Three — Live at the Bijou — 9/24
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nThe Devil Makes Three has always thrived in the spaces between genres\, where the grit of folk\, the soul of blues\, and the rebellious spirit of punk collide. Their music doesn’t just follow the American storytelling tradition—it redefines it. Whether evoking the deep melancholy of Delta blues or the frenetic energy of punk\, their sound is raw\, powerful\, and unmistakably their own. For over two decades\, this genre-defying trio has carved out a place in the American roots scene\, delivering high-energy performances that leave audiences captivated and wanting more. They’ve released seven studio albums and three live recordings\, with their latest\, Spirits\, marking a return to their stripped-down roots. \nFormed in 2002 in Santa Cruz\, California by Pete Bernhard and Cooper McBean\, the trio\, now featuring longtime collaborator MorganEve Swain (taking over on upright bass and vocals for Lucia Turino)\, has continued to evolve musically while staying rooted in their core sound. The Devil Makes Three has built a devoted fanbase by embracing the raw\, unpolished edge of acoustic music\, and their latest album\, Spirits\, adds yet another layer to this ever-expanding sonic palette. \nThe new album\, produced by Grammy-winner Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show\, Dropkick Murphys\, The Gaslight Anthem and Violent Femmes among others)\, takes listeners through a journey of grief\, addiction\, division\, and personal resilience. Songs like “Lights on Me” and “Spirits” delve into the emotional weight of loss and death\, reflecting Bernhard’s experience of losing close family members and friends during the album’s creation. Meanwhile\, tracks like “Half as High” and “Divide and Conquer” tackle broader social themes\, speaking to the ever-widening economic divide and political fragmentation in today’s volatile climate. \nWith frequent collaborator MorganEve Swain (from longtime tourmates Brown Bird)  taking over on upright bass and vocals for Lucia Turino on upright bass and vocals—the band recorded Spirits at Dreamland\, a converted church studio outside Woodstock\, New York\, where haunting thunderstorms mirrored the album’s somber\, introspective mood. The result is a powerful collection that marries the band’s signature Americana sound with new depth\, capturing the essence of resilience in the face of adversity. \nYet\, despite these heavy themes\, The Devil Makes Three maintains their core identity as a rhythm-driven\, live band meant for dancing and celebration. Their shows continue to bring together a diverse and dedicated fanbase\, where revelry and catharsis meet in equal measure.

SUMMARY:Shinyribs — Live at the Bijou — 10/6
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nShinyribs reassembles the American song bag like a picker in a junkyard; Texas singer-songwriter\, East Tx blues\, Louisiana swamp n’ rhythm\, honky tonk\, Oklahoma swing\, Golden-Triangle Cajun\, and Arkansas jazz are all filtered through the singular vision of Kevin Russell\, one of Austin’s most celebrated and criminally underrated singer-songwriters. \nThe Austin-based supergroup has entered a bold new chapter with the small baller “Shortribs” configuration — a tightly arranged powerhouse built to showcase what has always been at the heart of the Shinyribs experience: Russell’s legendary songwriting chops\, his iconic voice\, and the infamous hi-jinks of the self-proclaimed world’s oldest living male exotic dancer. Hip shaking\, booty twerking\, arm flapping\, high kicking and karate chopping good times are guaranteed to send you home with aching cheeks and tear-stained laughter. \nAt the rhythmic core is Keith Langford on drums — Russell’s musical partner of 30 years\, a bond forged in the crucible of legendary\, The Gourds— and as essential to the Shinyribs sound as the backbeat itself. Mason Hankamer holds down the low end on bass\, pulling double duty as co-producer of the last 3 Ribs platters and musical director\, tightening the arrangements and the show into something leaner and more purposeful than ever. The Delta Dawns — both hailing from the famous Memphis/Mississippi alluvial plain — have been elevated to a full dynamic singing sisterhood: Kellee Broadway\, who doubles on percussion\, and Schaefer Llana\, who shakes the chandeliers and plays some guitar too. Eric Baker\, a rising star in the Austin scene\, frisks the pianoforte like a long-lost Leon Russell. Rounding out the band — and perhaps its most exciting new voice — is lead guitarist and pedal steel wizard Cat Clemons. \nRussell himself says it best: “Clemons\, beyond just notes and licks galore\, possesses the ability to communicate psychically with audiences. It’s really a feat to be experienced. More than just being able to say you were there\, one will be able to try and describe their experience.” \nA Shinyribs show these days runs the gamut — from tongue-in-cheek winks and nudges to poignant stories of family\, loss\, grief\, and love. The poetic joy joins the musical melancholy like a rainbow over the swamp. Above and below\, a human collaboration of deep knowledge and soul\, expressed with a grace and groove unlike anything else. \nShinyribs has been nominated and won a slew of awards and honors\, but you will be the one going home with that Shiny trophy feeling. We are so excited you get to see Shinyribs soon. Lucky you! \nIf you’ve never heard of Shinyribs\, that’s a good thing. Now you’ve got something to look forward to. Let’s try and keep this a secret. We don’t want a bunch of dilettantes and phonies ruining our good time. \nDISCOGRAPHY: Well After Awhile (2010) · Gulf Coast Museum (2013) · Okra Candy (2015) · I Got Your Medicine (2017) · The Kringle Tingle (2018) · Fog & Bling (2019) · Late Night TV Gold (2021) · Transit Damage (2023) · Leaving Time (2025) \nReal Alligator\, Shinyribs’ 10th album\, is due Autumn 2026.

SUMMARY:The Brook & The Bluff — Mill & Mine — 10/6
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nThe Brook & The Bluff return to their rock & roll roots with Werewolf – a high-voltage\, live- inspired album that turns up the amps\, pushes the tempo\, and howls in four-part harmony. Fueled by the sharp songwriting and stacked vocals that have defined their catalog\, the collection captures the raw\, supercharged energy of the band’s concerts. \nAfter nearly a decade of nonstop touring – earning hundreds of millions of streams with fan favorites like “Halfway Up” and “Everything Is Just a Mess” – the band regrouped in Nashville\, meeting every morning to write and rehearse like their early days in Birmingham\, Alabama. Life unfolded in the background: weddings\, divorces\, real-world growing pains. Inside the room\, it was all music. \nThe band channels the swamp rock spirit of legendary artists like Creedence\, Petty\, and The Eagles\, delivering loud\, melodic\, deeply human songs like lead single “Super Bowl Sunday” – a crashing\, introspective anthem about ego and emotional blind spots. “The goal was to treat the record like a live set\,” says frontman Joseph Settine. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. Armed with a new album and an unflinching spirit\, The Brook & The Bluff are ready to hit the road again to continue their 2026 Werewolf tour. The band boasts a history of sold out headline\ntours across the continent\, a number of major festival performances\, and have supported artists like Noah Kahan\, Mt. Joy\, The Avett Brothers\, Ashe\, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
