SUMMARY:Paul Thorn Presented by WDVX — Live at the Bijou — 6/11
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \n“Life Is Just A Vapor”\nWhen it comes to songwriting\, less is more\, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn\, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads\, hearts\, hips or the occasional funny bone\, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras\, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. \nThorn’s new album\, Life is Just A Vapor\, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor\, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last\, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”). They’re words of advice\, comfort\, support\, encouragement\, often meant to uplift\, especially in times of struggle. \n“I like for people to be touched by music and get something from it\, something that they can take with them throughout the day\,” Thorn says. “Every song on this album\, there’s a message in it of some sort about how to live life.” \nAmerican Blues Scene writer Don Wilcock calls Thorn “an everyman (who) addresses things we all think about\, but few can articulate with the kind of candor\, humor and folksy truth that immediately endear him to almost everyone lucky enough to hear his music.”

SUMMARY:Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — Live at the Bijou — 5/11
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nApril\, 2026\, marks the 33 year anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s remarkable arrival onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura\, California\, the band has toured virtually nonstop\, performing on average over 150 shows a year\, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music\, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. Early on\, during their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles\, they reminded the world\, in the midst of the grunge era no less\, that it was still cool to swing. The band\, co-founded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren\, was at the forefront of the swing revival of that time\, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz\, swing\, and dixieland\, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture. \nBig Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all original core line-up includes Scotty Morris (lead vocals and guitar)\, Kurt Sodergren (drums)\, Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals)\, Andy Rowley (baritone saxophone and vocals)\, Glen “The Kid” Marhevka (trumpet)\, Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet) and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger). Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s efforts to promote and revitalize swing music have taken shape as much more than a simple tribute. Taking inspiration from the creators of this uniquely American art form\, the band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high energy show introduces the genre to a new and younger generation while remaining cognizant and respectful of the music’s rich legacy. \nBig Bad Voodoo Daddy’s first phase of stardom featured an appearance in the 1996 indie film Swingers\, a movie that not only launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau\, but introduced Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to an audience beyond their Los Angeles base. The band’s music has appeared in countless films and television shows\, including The Wild\, Despicable Me\, Phineas & Ferb\, Friends\, Third Rock From The Sun\, Ally McBeal\, and So You Think You Can Dance. They have appeared live on Dancing With The Stars\, Late Night With Conan O’Brien\, NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center\, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade\, a remarkable seven appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno\, and the Super Bowl XXXIII Halftime Show. The band has also appeared as special guests with many of the country’s most distinguished symphony orchestras\, and has performed for three U.S. Presidents. \nAfter 33 years\, 11 records\, over 3000 live shows\, and countless appearances in film and television\, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is showing no signs of slowing down\, and is looking forward to sharing its music with new and old fans alike\, in 2026

SUMMARY:Rebuild Hot Springs presents The 2026 Town & Trail Festival
DESCRIPTION:A free\, two-day celebration of the Appalachian Trail\, the mountains\, and the remarkable community of Hot Springs\, North Carolina. Everyone is welcome.\n\n\nSince 1998\, Trailfest has been a cherished tradition in Hot Springs\, NC. As the first town Appalachian Trail thru-hikers reach on their northbound journey\, Hot Springs has always had a special relationship with the trail — and this festival has been its annual celebration. For nearly three decades\, we’ve welcomed hikers\, locals\, and visitors alike with live music\, delicious food\, and the kind of warm mountain hospitality you can only find here. \n\n\nLast year\, we added something new to the name. “Town & Trail Fest” reflects what this event has always been at its heart — not just a celebration of the trail\, but of the remarkable community that lives alongside it. Hot Springs is a town with a story worth telling\, and we couldn’t think of a better way to tell it than by bringing everyone together for a weekend of music\, laughter\, and good company. \n\n\n\n\nHot Springs sits at mile 273 of the Appalachian Trail — and for hikers who’ve been on the trail for weeks\, rolling into this little mountain town feels like coming home. The festival has always been a love letter to that experience: the trail\, the town\, and the deep connection between them. \n\n\nFor a second year\, Town & Trail Fest is presented by Rebuild Hot Springs Area (RHSA)\, a local nonprofit born out of this community’s response to Hurricane Helene. What this town has accomplished in the face of that challenge is a testament to the spirit of the Appalachian community — and this festival is a celebration of exactly that. All proceeds go directly toward RHSA’s mission of building a stronger\, more resilient Hot Springs. \nTown & Trail Fest is more than a great weekend — it’s a fundraiser for the people and services that make Hot Springs what it is. Last year’s festival raised over $11\,000 for RHSA’s Residential Fund\, helping put families back in their homes and giving this community a foundation to rebuild on. This year\, we’re turning our focus to the men and women who show up no matter what. All proceeds will support RHSA’s Emergency Services Fund\, dedicated to the three volunteer fire departments — Hot Springs\, Spring Creek\, and Country VFD — whose sacrifice and service keep our mountain community safe every single day.

SUMMARY:Marc Broussard — Live at the Bijou — 4/29
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAcclaimed singer\, songwriter\, and musician Marc Broussard is a unique performer who embodies the essence of American soul and has forged his own distinct musical style. The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard of “The Boogie Kings\,” he nurtured his musical gifts at an early age in the vibrant Lafayette\, Louisiana\, music scene. After releasing a highly successful independent EP at age 20\, Broussard made his major-label debut with Carencro. The album featured the breakout hit “Home” and propelled him into the international spotlight. That album and the others that followed revealed Broussard as a Southern soul singer with a rarefied talent and an innate stylistic and emotional authenticity that has made him one of the most indelible artists of his generation. The Louisiana-born and raised artist has created a wide range of music in his career. Carencro laid the groundwork with unequaled style\, illustrating his knack for modern soul music and setting the stage for his long and distinguished career. NPR cited\, “His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues\, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock ‘n’ roll to create unique and infectious music.” Washington Times noted\, “Few modern voices are as powerful as Marc Broussard’s soulful\, Bayou-bred baritone.” \nBroussard released multiple albums with major labels over the last ten years before returning to his independent roots with several acclaimed original recordings and charitable cover albums via his S.O.S. Foundation (Save our Soul).  His philanthropic releases include Save our Soul\, Save our Soul 11: Soul on a Mission\, A Lullaby Collection\, SOS 111 with accompanying children’s book\, I Love You for You and S.O.S.4: Blues for Your Soul\, his collaboration with blues icon Joe Bonamassa which debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. \nMarc Broussard’s philanthropic efforts extend well over a decade\, beginning with his self-released album Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and his efforts to organize the Momentary Setback Fund to provide financial assistance to those displaced by both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. In 2015\, to further his commitment to tying music to a mission\, he established the S.O.S. Foundation as a conduit to raise money for worthy causes\, including the United Way\, Habitat for Humanity\, the City of Refuge in Atlanta\, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge\, LA\, and the Miami based organization\, Guitars Over Guns. https://www.marcbroussard.com/charity-1  \nBroussard’s latest album\, Time Is a Thief\, is a heartfelt collection of ten original songs that showcase the celebrated Louisiana singer-songwriter’s gritty\, rootsy hooks and infectious grooves\, all conveyed through his fervent vocals. The album marks his first release of original music in seven years and features the uplifting single “Give You The World.” The album has been hailed as “a new masterwork that transcends his previous body of work like the crown jewel does the ascent stones\,” by Blues Rock Review. Louisiana’s The Advocate cited that the “album represents Broussard’s soul- and rhythm-and-blues-informed style better than anything that preceded it.” The album was produced by Grammy-winning guitarist/songwriter/producer Eric Krasno and Grammy-nominated producer/guitarist Jeremy Most. \nIn February 2026\, Broussard will release a new studio album\, S.O.S. V Songs of the ’50s\, via his Artist Tone Records.  The eleven-song set features intoxicating renditions of soul\, blues\, rock\, and pop classics from the Fifties\, two gems from the early Sixties\, and a Broussard original. This vibrant collection offers a sublime showcase for Broussard’s dynamic vocal prowess\, revealing his craftsmanship and passion for an impressive range of enduring American music. S.O.S. V Songs of the ’50s is Broussard’s latest entry in his philanthropic album series benefiting the nonprofit organization\, Love of People\, based in Broussard’s hometown of Lafayette\, LA.

SUMMARY:Charles Wesley Godwin — Mill & Mine — 4/22
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here & find the add-on bundle here. \nFollowing Charles Wesley Godwin’s 2023 critically acclaimed Family Ties — a highly personal\, 17-song diary-like LP that was both universally praised and catapulted the West Virginian singer-songwriter to new heights in his career — the rising musician returned in 2025 with a pair of releases: The Lonely Mountain Town EP and Live From The Steel City. The former is a quieter\, more contemplative affair than Family Ties\, containing some of the most thrilling songs of Godwin’s career. Written principally on the road\, Lonely Mountain Town is at its heart a collection of on-the-move snapshots and quiet moments in life set to tune. The latter\, Live From The Steel City\, is a raucous live record that perfectly encapsulates the energy Charles Wesley Godwin brings to his performances\, which last year included a sold out Red Rocks headline debut and a string of dates opening Eric Church’s Free The Machine Tour. \nGodwin has been on a steady upward climb following his beloved debut album\, 2019’s Seneca. Alongside his longtime band\, the Allegheny High\, the musician has developed a reputation as a thrilling and beautifully raucous live performer. Godwin has appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter\, performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS Saturday Sessions. 2026 will see Godwin release his 4th full-length album\, as well as a slew of tour dates and festivals\, including Stagecoach and Under The Big Sky\, amongst others.

SUMMARY:Penny & Sparrow — Live at the Bijou — 4/18
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nA wise wizard once said: “when in doubt\, always follow your nose.” \nThe last album from Penny and Sparrow\, Olly Olly\, was a work of revelation and liberation. A search for and an embrace of the self. I imagine they were left with a headscratcher of a question: well\, shit. Where do you go from there? \nFortunately\, they listened to the wizard and followed their noses backwards to find their way forward. \nAiming to strip away pretense and invite experimentation\, they commandeered a garden shed from a friend and retrofitted it to make a twenty-track album that is vast\, weird\, and wholly unexpected. \nIf Lefty is anything\, it is the journal of Penny and Sparrow’s inner child. Dog-eared\, lock busted open. On its pages the sketches of dreams\, nightmares\, erotica\, and literary fan fiction graffiti the margins of poetry\, elegies\, and love letters in the wild colors of saxophone blue\, electronic pink\, and blood harmony red. \nBeautifully varied and richly rendered\, it is an album that wanders from theme to theme\, style to style\, exultation to tragedy. Yet it is never lost. If anything\, it is at play. \nUnited by its intimate vocals and aching harmonies\, its acoustic laments trickle into ethereal pop only to surge into whimsical ballads and crest into grand hooligan anthems that sway gently down to familiar shores where melancholic ballads tell of love lost\, found\, forgotten\, and remembered. \nAndy and Kyle have written some albums in blood. Others they’ve whispered to the sea. This one they danced in the sky with smiles on their faces. Lefty feels like not just a celebration of their journey beyond the bounds of their traditional genre\, but as if they have rediscovered the joy in music by honoring the sounds that inspired two boys growing up in Texas to one day make the damn stuff themselves. \n– Pierce Brown\, author and friend

SUMMARY:Live From the Bijou - 4/17 - Taj Mahal & the Phantom Blues Band
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS & INFO! \nTaj Mahal doesn’t wait for permission. If a sound intrigues him\, he sets out to make it. If origins mystify him\, he moves to trace them. If rules get in his way\, he unapologetically breaks them. To Taj\, convention means nothing\, but traditions are holy. He has pushed music and culture forward\, all while looking lovingly back. \n“I just want to be able to make the music that I’m hearing come to me — and that’s what I did\,” Taj says. The 82-year-old is home in Berkeley\, reflecting on six + decades of music making. “When I say\, ‘I did\,’ I’m not coming from the ego. The music comes from somewhere. You’re just the conduit it comes through. You’re there to receive the gift.” \nTaj is a towering musical figure — a legend who transcended the blues not by leaving them behind\, but by revealing their magnificent scope to the world. “The blues is bigger than most people think\,” he says. “You could hear Mozart play the blues. It might be more like a lament. It might be more melancholy. But I’m going to tell you: the blues is in there.” \nIf anyone knows where to find the blues\, it’s Taj. A brilliant artist with a musicologist’s mind\, he has pursued and elevated the roots of beloved sounds with boundless devotion and skill. Then\, as he traced origins to the American South\, the Caribbean\, Africa\, and elsewhere\, he created entirely new sounds\, over and over again. As a result\, he’s not only a god to rock-and-roll icons such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones\, but also a hero to ambitious artists toiling in obscurity who are determined to combine sounds that have heretofore been ostracized from one another. No one is as simultaneously traditional and avant-garde. \nQuantifying Taj’s significance is impossible\, but people try anyway. A 2022 Grammy win for ‘Get On Board’ for his collaboration with Ry Cooder\, then a trip with his Sextet to Leon Russell’s Church Studio in Tulsa\, OK to record ‘Swingin’ Live at the Church Studio in Tulsa\,’ yet another Grammy win\, brought his Grammy tally to five wins and 16 nominations\, and underscored his undiminished relevance more than 50 years after his solo debut. Blues Hall of Fame membership\, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association\, 2025 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree and other honors punctuate his resumé. He appreciates the accolades\, but his motivation lies elsewhere. “It’s not a hunger\, not a lust or even a thirst\,” Taj says of what drives him. “It’s just more knowledge of self — to realize that almost everything is right here. We’re so used to looking outside of ourselves for things\, and it’s right here.” \nTaj’s exploration of music began as an exploration of self. He was born in 1942 in Harlem to musical parents — his father was a jazz pianist with Caribbean roots; mother was a gospel-singing schoolteacher from South Carolina — who cultivated an appreciation for both personal history and the arts in their son. “I was raised really conscious of my African roots\,” Taj says. “So I was trying to find out: where does what we do here connect to what we left there?” In the early 1950s\, his family moved to Springfield\, Massachusetts — a microcosmic melting pot for immigrants from across the globe: the Caribbean\, the American South\, Europe\, the Mediterranean\, Syria\, Lebanon. “Music was everywhere\,” he says. “Things were different in those days. There weren’t a lot of places that African Americans had to go out to entertain themselves. So people did a lot of entertaining in their homes. Friday or Saturday night\, you’d move the furniture\, mop and wax the floor\, and set things up so people could pop over and hear all the music.” Musicians and friends from around the world passed through\, ate home-cooked feasts\, and led neighborhood jam sessions and dance parties in cozy living rooms. \nFrom the beginning\, Taj found the blues magnetic\, even as most artists around him in the Northeast were exploring other sounds. “I could hear little strains of the blues coming through — you could feel that energy in the music that was being played\,” he says. “I could also feel that energy of the blues inside myself.” Piano lessons didn’t stick — “I’d already heard what I wanted to play” – so when a blues guitarist from North Carolina moved in next door\, Taj found an early mentor and was off. \nFor college\, Taj attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He graduated after studying agriculture and animal husbandry. “I knew I’d like to connect myself to something on this planet that’s meaningful\,” he says. “That’s why I was interested in agriculture and music. Those were the two things that I recognized even as a very young child that people are never going to do without.” \nIn 1964\, Taj packed up and headed west. In Los Angeles\, he formed six-piece the Rising Sons with Ry Cooder. The group opened for Otis Redding\, the Temptations\, and more\, and recorded an album\, but it wasn’t released until about 30 years later. “I guess that’s when they decided\, ‘Whoa. I guess this guy is real\,'” Taj says\, with a hint of a smirk. He’s referring to record executives — a breed for whom he has little patience. “For me\, playing the old music was a refuge from all the stupid stuff that was going on\,” he says\, pausing for a moment to point out commercialization’s limiting effects on what was both recorded and heard. \nIn 1967\, Taj’s self-titled debut announced the arrival of bold young bluesman. The following year ushered in two milestones: sophomore album The Natch’l Blues dropped\, and Taj performed in The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus\, a film featuring performances from the Stones\, The Who\, Marianne Faithfull\, Martha and the Vandellas\, and others meant for the BBC but pulled and kept from public eyes until 1996. In 1969\, full of music and only just beginning\, Taj released Giant Step / De Ole Folks at Home\, a massive double album that hinted at Taj’s refusal to be boxed in. \nThe 70s were a productive and ambitious recording period for Taj that included the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the film Sounder. He began experimenting with global fusions and flirtations\, signaling to listeners his restless intention to discover both new and old and disregard commercially imposed boundaries. In the 80s\, Taj moved to Hawaii\, and fell in love with sounds native to the island as he toured constantly\, internationally. His gritty blues began to incorporate Latin\, reggae\, Caribbean\, calypso\, cajun\, jazz\, and more\, all layered over a distinctly Afrocentric roots base he’d been raised to rediscover. \nFor Taj\, the 90s were incredibly prolific. Back-to-back Grammy wins for the Best Contemporary Blues Album recognized two dynamic projects with the Phantom Blues Band: Señor Blues and Shoutin’ in Key. “I noticed that when it came to complicated pieces of blues music\, they’d never get played\,” Taj says. “It’s one of the reasons we put Señor Blues out — to say\, ‘You guys\, you know there is more that just the same old [imitates a beat] di da di di di da.’ It’s good when you believe it when you’re playing it. But just to play it as a cliche? That’s real boring. And real tiring.” Collaborations with Hawaiian\, African\, Indian\, and other musicians helped define his decade. \nOver the years\, Taj had also emerged as a mind-boggling\, multifaceted player. In addition to the guitar\, he has become proficient on about 20 different instruments — and counting. “There weren’t an awful lot of people still playing these instruments that came from my culture\,” Taj explains. “Not that they didn’t before\, but nobody was playing them in the time I was. But I wanted to hear them. So I watched people play\, got one\, sat down\, remembered the music that I was listening to\, and started picking it out on the mandolin or banjo or 12-string.” \nTaj didn’t slow down as he entered the 21st century. Maestro\, marking the 40th anniversary of his recording career and featuring a global mix of voices ranging from Angelique Kidjo to Los Lobos to Ziggy Marley to Ben Harper\, dropped in 2008. In 2017\, his highly anticipated collaboration with Keb’ Mo’ — TajMo — netted Taj his third Grammy. Their partnership continued in 2023-24 when they regrouped to record the follow up TajMo record due out in Spring 2025. 2022’s Grammy for ‘Get on Board’ with Ry Cooder\, Taj’s live record from the Church Studio in Tulsa\, ‘Savoy’ are amongst a few of the several projects he is either touring behind or currently in the works\, as Taj remains excited by fresh young voices trying new things and exhumed treasures that have been buried too long. \nAs Taj thinks about the dozens and dozens of albums\, collaborations\, live experiences\, and captured sounds\, he finds satisfaction in one main idea. “As long as I’m never sitting here\, saying to myself\, ‘You know? You had an idea 50 years ago\, and you didn’t follow through\,’ I’m really happy\,” he says. “It doesn’t even matter that other people get to hear it. It matters that I get to hear it — that I did it.” \n

SUMMARY:DelFest Presents: The Travelin' McCourys — Live at the Bijou — 4/9
DESCRIPTION:Click here for tickets! \nFrom a source deep\, abundant\, and pure the river flows. It’s there on the map\, marking place and time. Yet\, the river changes as it remains a constant\, carving away at the edges\, making new pathways\, gaining strength as it progresses forward. The Travelin’ McCourys are that river. \nThe McCoury brothers—Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo)—were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father\, Del\, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music. \n“If you put your mind\, your skills\, and your ability to it\, I think you can make just about anything work on bluegrass instruments\,” says Ronnie. “That’s a really fun part of this—figuring the new stuff out and surprising the audience.” \nThe newest member of the band\, fiddler Christian Ward\, joined after Jason Carter moved on to pursue a solo career. Bassist Alan Bartram\, and Cody Kilby on guitar\, they assembled a group that could take what they had in their DNA\, the traditions they learned and heard\, and push the music forward. In fact\, the band became the only group to have each of its members recognized with an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for their instrument at least once. There were peers\, too\, that could see bluegrass as both historic and progressive. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band\, improv-rock kings Phish\, and jamband contemporary Keller Williams were just a few that formed a mutual admiration society with the ensemble. \nThe band played the Allman’s Wanee Festival and guitarist Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam—an annual holiday homecoming of Southern music. An early-years jam with the Lee Boys was hailed by many as the highlight of the evening\, and with the video catching fire online\, earned a legion of new\, young fans of their supercharged combination of sacred steel\, R&B\, and bluegrass. There were unforgettable collaborations with country smash Dierks Bentley\, onstage magic jamming with titans String Cheese Incident and Phish\, cutting an album with Keller (Pick)\, and creating the Grateful Ball—a tribute concert-turned-tour bridging bluegrass with the iconic music of the Grateful Dead. \n“That’s something that’s part of us being who we are\,” says Ronnie. “It comes\, too\, with us plugging in. It gets louder\, for sure. We can’t be another version of our dad’s band. It wouldn’t make any sense for us to do that.” \nTheir concerts became can’t-miss events\, whether headlining historic venues or as festival favorites\, drawing the love and respect of a growing fanbase craving their eclectic repertoire. At the 2016 edition of DelFest\, an annual gathering of the genre’s best aptly named for the McCoury patriarch\, the band delivered the take-away highlight. Rolling Stone called it “a sublime combination of rock and bluegrass\, contemporary and classic\, old and young. The best set of the festival…” The river was going new places\, getting stronger. It was time to re-draw the map. \n“We’ve tried to pick songs we think people are going to enjoy\,” says Ronnie. “Something we learned from our dad is that a good song is a good song. It can be done in any way.” \nSo arrives the long-awaited\, self-titled debut album from the quintet. A brilliantly executed set overflowing with inventive style\, stellar musicianship\, and\, of course\, plenty of burnin’ grass\, the 14-song collection is a true culmination of their decades-long journey. From the headwaters of Bill Monroe and the waves of Jerry Garcia to a sound both rooted and revolutionary\, soulful and transcending that belongs only to the Travelin’ McCourys. \n“The album definitely shows what we’ve evolved into as a band. And it’s a pretty good representation of what’s happening with the whole genre\,” says Rob. “The old bluegrass material is something I love but it’s been done many times. We’re forging ahead with our own sound. That’s what you have to do to make it all work.”

SUMMARY:Robert Cray Band — Live at the Bijou — 4/3
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \nBlues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things – and more. The Georgia-born\, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV then\, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle\, determined that his destiny would also follow a similar path. And so he has: across the past half century Robert Cray’s developed into one of American music’s most singular artists. \n“I guess you’d have to say that we were lucky\,” reflects Cray on his life in music\, “because\, growing up in the 1960s\, the different music played on the radio really opened us up. I mean\, we even had Albert Collins play our high School graduation party.” \nFrom forming a teenage garage band\, through to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s greatest guitarists\, Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment. Struggle and commitment that led to Cray enjoying phenomenal success – selling millions of albums and countless concert tickets\, winning five Grammy Awards\, being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame\, recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award\, designing two signature model Fender guitars – yet for Robert what’s always mattered most is the music. Every note he plays counts\, every song he sings is delivered as if it is his last: integrity and intensity are what has guided Cray’s musical career. He has never cheapened his output or delivered a substandard performance. Indeed\, his commitment to making music of the highest standard has won Cray both a loyal audience and the respect of many of popular music’s most legendary figures. \nThink about it: Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker\, Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Chuck Berry\, Albert Collins\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric Clapton\, Tina Turner\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s stinging guitar playing and soulful voice\, his skills as a band leader and performer\, mark him as keeper of the flame for American roots music\, an artist who never fails to deliver. \n“We were so lucky just be able to see them\,” says Cray of trading guitar licks on stage with legends of blues\, rock and soul\, “let alone share the stage with them – what an experience!”\nCray’s rise to the top was\, like his music\, a slow burn\, he first building a following in small towns across the Pacific Northwest. Even before Cray had a record deal he enjoyed local hero status – so much so in 1978 he was cast (as a musician) in Animal House\, the blockbuster comedy that made John Belushi famous. 1978 was also the year Cray recorded his debut album\, Who’s Been Talkin’\, although Tomato Records’ internal problems held up Talkin’s release until 1980. And then\, just as Talkin’ was winning great reviews\, Tomato collapsed into bankruptcy. Got the blues? Young Robert certainly could have claimed he had them. But Cray isn’t given to complaining\, instead he persevered\, committed then\, as he is now\, to taking his music to the people. \nAfter Tomato\, Cray and his band – today consisting of Richard Cousins (bass guitar – there since high school days)\, Dover Weinberg (keyboards) and Les Falconer (drums) – used the momentum the album gave them to play further afield. By now Cray was buddies with a young guitarist from Texas: Stevie Ray Vaughan. \n“We played in 1979 at the San Francisco Blues Festival\,” recalls Cray\, “and I watched Stevie’s show and he’s just smoking. Afterwards Richard and I went up and chatted with him and we just hit it off. Stevie was great – if we were in Austin he’d always come and join us on stage.” \nSigning to Hightone\, Cray’s 1983 album Bad Influence established him internationally: he was invited to play Carnegie Hall\, toured Europe\, later finding Eric Clapton recording Bad Influence’s title track. 1985 saw Cray’s False Accusations album increase his standing as the foremost singer of blues noir songs\, while that year’s Showdown! – a sizzling collaboration with guitarists’ Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland – won Robert huge acclaim from blues musicians and fans: the new guy’s the real deal! Signing to Mercury Records\, Cray’s 1986 album Strong Persuader ensured he became the first blues/soul musician to breakthrough in the MTV era. \nStrong Persuader won Cray rave reviews from pop and rock critics\, topped charts worldwide\, saw Cray grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording in 1988. Strong Persuader\, with its songs of infidelity\, guilt and unease\, while not in any sense conventional Top 40 music\, proved so strong an album it broke through barriers\, sold millions of copies and would prove extremely influential (2026 being the 40th anniversary.) Cray’s breakthrough allowed both young and older blues and soul musicians to gain wide attention and radio play: John Lee Hooker’s career resurrection came soon after with The Healer\, and Robert plays on that seminal album. \n“It was great to be able to travel around the world\,” says Cray of Strong Persuader’s success. “It afforded us a lot of great opportunities that we were lucky to experience.” Cray’s being modest here: suddenly he found himself the hottest guitarist working – Tina Turner invited Robert to support her huge European tour (every night\, after playing with his band\, Cray would join Tina on stage to play A Change Is Gonna Come)\, then Keith Richards called\, requesting Cray join the band backing Chuck Berry for Taylor Hackford’s celebratory feature length documentary Hail Hail Rock ‘N’ Roll. Here Cray not only got to play with the mercurial Berry (+Linda Ronstadt and Etta James\, amongst many notable artists)\, he also formed a friendship with Steve Jordan\, then drummer for the project and Richards’ solo band. \nNow internationally famous\, Cray found himself in intense demand: he toured with The Stones and played with B.B King\, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. Headlining in noted music festivals – these included Glastonbury in the UK and Crossroads Guitar Festival in the US – and kept developing his sound over a selection of strong albums across the 1990s. Cray’s songwriting has addressed ageing\, love\, loneliness\, domestic turmoil and US politics. \nAs an artist Robert Cray’s aged like fine wine – his voice has developed a greater range and expressiveness\, this he’s put to use on masterful interpretations of such Southern soul standards as I Forgot To Be Your Lover (William Bell)\, Your Good Thing Is About To End (Mable John) and Nobody’s Fault But Mine (Otis Redding). At the same time\, Cray’s guitar playing now possesses an additional depth\, a growl that can hint at a caress then signal emotional upheaval. \nHis recent run of albums – 2014’s In My Soul\, 2017’s Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm and 2020’s masterful That’s What I Heard (all produced by Steve Jordan: now the Stones’ drummer) – are\namongst the very finest he’s made. Every song here is deeply felt\, whether an agonized song of loss\, an angry protest number\, or a dance tune that gets audiences pumping (My Baby Likes To Boogaloois great funky fun). \nAcross five decades Robert Cray has created a richly inclusive American music\, revitalizing both blues and soul while rocking hard with the very best. To achieve 50 years in the music industry and still be as fresh and committed as when starting out is an achievement few can boast of but Cray can: he has released 19 studio albums\, every one replete with his extremely distinctive songs\, won five Grammy Awards and continues to make music that sounds like no one but Robert Cray. “All these years we have been fortunate to do what we love doing\, playing the music we love playing\,” says Cray with a smile. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

SUMMARY:Lucius — Live at the Bijou — 4/1
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \nKnown for their engaging live performances and spell-binding harmonies\, Grammy-nominated indie-pop band Lucius are a mesmerizing experience of mirrored kinship and honesty. In 2025\, the band released their fourth studio album\, Lucius\, which Rolling Stone called “the best album of their career.” Lucius’ most personal and purposeful album to date explores relationships\, motherhood\, and life’s complexities with a unique vulnerability only made possible due to the familial nature of the band. The New Yorker praises\, “The band’s new self-titled album reaches the pinnacle of a vibrant\, harmonic enterprise\,” while Paste describes their sound as “girl-group revivalism\, cosmic pop\, and a kind of bicoastal harmonizing that once echoed through western canyons.” \nLucius’ self-titled record follows an impressive history of critically acclaimed full-length projects. Their debut\, Wildewoman\, introduced their signature dual lead vocals and retro charm. It was widely praised for the album’s throwback sound with NPR declaring it “perfect\, magnetic pop music” Meanwhile\, The Guardian called lead singers Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig’s voices “powerful … melding beautifully in harmony.” With the release of Good Grief in 2016\, Lucius traded some of their folk roots for polished synth-pop. \nThe band’s acclaimed 2022 record\, Second Nature\, marked a striking return\, and was produced by Brandi Carlile and Dave Cobb. Released to overwhelming acclaim\, the Los Angeles Times praised\, “dazzling…Second Nature mines an ’80s-pop sound with lush synths and sleek disco grooves under the women’s laser- guided vocals\,” while Relix proclaimed\, “stunning…a 10-song\, smart-pop masterpiece.” Throughout their acclaimed career\, Lucius has performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”\, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”\, BBC’s Later! with Jools Holland\, PBS’ “Austin City Limits” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show”. Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are some of the most sought-after collaborators in popular music due to their “otherworldly” vocals (Los Angeles Times). The duo have recorded and performed with many artists including Joni Mitchell\, Mumford and Sons\, The National\, Harry Styles\, Ringo Starr\, Ozzy Osborne\, Sheryl Crow\, and Brandi Carlile including appearances on the Grammy stage and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Lucius are Laessig\, Wolfe\, and Peter Lalish.

SUMMARY:Lucero — Mill & Mine — 3/22
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nSince forming in Memphis in the late 90’s\, Lucero’s base musical hallmarks have remained similar to the band’s initial sound established with their first record The Attic Tapes. In the history of their expansive discography\, Lucero has evolved and embraced everything from southern rock to Stax-inspired Memphis soul\, whilst simultaneously maintaining their distinctive sonic foundations. Over 20 years later\, dedicated fans of the group still flock to hear the band’s punchy driving rhythms\, punk-rooted guitar licks\, and lyrics that evoke the whiskey drenched sentimentality of Americana singer-songwriters. As expected of any band built to survive\, Lucero has welcomed change over the course of their career\, but it has always been on their terms.

SUMMARY:Old Crow Medicine Show - Live at the Tennessee Theatre - 3/20/26
DESCRIPTION:Support for WDVX comes from the historic Tennessee Theatre on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. WDVX is a media sponsor for the Old Crow Medicine Show Friday night March 20th. Tickets go on sale this Friday morning 12/12 at 10am at Tennessee Theatre dot com and the Tennessee Theatre box office. This night includes the opening of the new six twelve building annex! \nFor Old Crow Medicine Show\, playing music has always felt like a holiday celebration. \n“We’re in the joy business\,” says frontman Ketch Secor\, who launched the Grammy-winning band in 1998. “From the very start\, a lot of the virtues of Christmas — the revelry\, the singalongs\, the happiness — have been present in our show.” \nNowhere is that more apparent than OCMS XMAS\, the group’s first holiday album. Decorated with seasonal spirit and string-band stomp\, it’s the rare breed of Christmas record that packs a punch all year long\, shining new light on the band’s chart-topping version of American roots music. Old Crow Medicine Show aren’t just reinterpreting their favorite yuletide standards; they’re adding new songs to the canon\, too\, from “Jolly Man” — a country-blues number inspired by Mississippi John Hurt and laced with harmonica\, sleigh bells\, and resonator guitar — to the Zydeco-flavored “All About A Baby.” \nThey’re telling fresh stories\, too. On “Corn Whiskey Christmas\,” a bootlegger drives his Chevrolet through the snow on Christmas Eve\, bringing moonshine to those craving a cup of cheer. On the John Prine-worthy “Bethlehem\, PA” — a sly reimagining of Jesus’ birth story\, with lyrics that substitute Steel Country for Jerusalem — the band heads to the Keystone State to witness the Nativity\, making stops at Wawa and Motel 6 along the way. “Grandpa’s Gone” grapples with the loss of a family figure during the holiday season\, while the wicked “Krampus Night” puts a minor-key spin on the Christmas catalog\, paying tribute to a folkloric creature who\, according to Secor\, “just might leave ya coal and steal your soul.” \nFor more than a quarter century\, Old Crow Medicine Show’s albums have built a bridge between past and present\, updating the sounds of pre-war folk\, country\, old-time\, and bluegrass for the 21st century. OCMS XMAS continues that custom. There’s plenty of tradition here: a cover of “Holly Jolly Christmas\,” featuring horns from the Tennessee State University ensemble Brassville; a rowdy version of the Appalachian standard “Breakin’ Up Xmas\,” recorded live in the band’s East Nashville headquarters; and a timely take on John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s global peace anthem “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)\,” stacked with church harmonies. Balancing out that reverence for the past\, though\, are songs that boldly live in the present\, from barn-burners like “December 26” (which marks the songwriting debut of longtime band member Morgan Jahnig) to “North By Northeast\,” a tribute to New England winters. That fusion of old and new has always played a crucial role in the band’s longevity. More than 20 years after the release of “Wagon Wheel” — one of the best-selling country singles of all time\, combining a forgotten chorus by Bob Dylan with original verses from Ketch Secor — OCMS XMAS uphold’s Old Crow’s combination of the timely with the timelessness. \n“Some of our favorite country artists are those in the Grand Ole Opry\,” says Secor\, who was inducted into the Opry alongside his bandmates in 2013. “The kind of country music that came out of Nashville during the ’60s\, ’70s\, and ’80s is so different than what you hear today\, and we’ve learned a lot from the elder statesmen of our genre. Many of those cats released Christmas albums and went out on Christmas tours every year\, so there’s a real legacy there. We get to be part of that with this project.” \nA real legacy\, indeed. Old Crow have thrived for more than a quarter century. Like many of their heroes\, they’ve become torchbearers of classic folk music\, reshaping those sounds for the modern world. They’re creators\, not replicators\, and OCMS XMAS finds them tackling another tradition — the time-honored Christmas album — with humor\, hillbilly twang\, and novel ideas. Supported by the band’s first-ever “Holiday Hootenanny” tour\, OCMS XMAS just might be the start of a new tradition itself: a celebration of the seasonal sounds\, shared joy\, and holiday rituals that bring us all together. Christmas just got a new soundtrack.

SUMMARY:Wednesday — Mill & Mine — 3/13
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nCan a self-portrait be a collage? Can empathy be autobiographical? What’s the point of living if we’re not trying to understand all the horror and humor that surrounds everything? These are a few of the questions lurking under the bleachers of Wednesday’s new album Bleeds\, an intoxicating collection of narrative-heavy Southern rock that—like many of the most arresting passages from the North Carolina band’s highlight reel so far—thoughtfully explores the vivid link between curiosity and confession. \nBleeds is not only the best Wednesday record—it’s also the most Wednesday record\, a patchwork-style triumph of literary allusions and outlaw grit\, of place-based poetry and hair-raising noise. Karly Hartzman—founder\, frontwoman\, and primary lyricist—credits Wednesday’s tightened grasp on their own identity to time spent collaborating on previous albums\, plus a tour schedule that’s been both rewarding and relentless. “Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God\, and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album\,” Hartzman said\, articulating satisfaction with the ways her band has sharpened its trademark sound\, how they’ve refined the formula that makes them one of the most interesting rock bands of their generation. “This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like\,” she said. “We’ve devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out—and I feel like we did.”

SUMMARY:Darrell Scott & Will Hoge — Live at the Bijou — 3/7
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \nAbout Darrell Scott: \nMulti-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. And ultimately\, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters\, that we don’t always get it right\, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things\, why we forever chase it\, and why it is held sacred. \nDarrell Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4\, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change. \nAfter recently touring with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (2 years with each)\, and producing albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI\, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property and playing music. On Sweet Misery\, Hoge reminds listeners that he isn’t afraid to break new ground – all while giving a keen nod to his rock and roll roots with the kind of grace and purpose that only comes with experience – without the baggage of predictability. In Will’s own words – “Following the re-recording and re-releases of Carousel and Blackbird On A Lonely Wire I found myself really wanting to make a louder\, hooky\, rock-n-roll band record again. Good stories\, big choruses\, shit to make you play it loud and drive fast with the windows down. I was without a band so I enlisted a crew of folks who I love – folks that I believed could really help bring out the bigger ideas in the songs. I hope folks will find some headphones and give it a good\, loud listen. Top to bottom\, the way albums should be listened to.” \nWill Hoge has a career whose milestones include Number One hits\, Grammy nods\, major-label record deals\, and hard-won independence. Years before Americana music received its own category at the Grammy Awards\, Hoge was on the frontlines\, helping to pilot and popularize the genre’s blend of American roots music. In the current digital era dominated by influencers seeking shortcuts to stardom\, Will Hoge proudly treads the scenic route\, immersing himself in the journey rather than fixating on the destination.

SUMMARY:The Lone Bellow — Live at the Bijou — 2/26
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nWith their upcoming sixth studio album\, “What A Time To Be Alive\,”  The Lone Bellow embarks on a bold new chapter while honoring the deep bonds that have defined their journey. Written collaboratively for the first time with their full touring band—founding members Zach Williams\, Brian Elmquist\, and Kanene Pipkin joined by drummer Julian Dorio and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Geertsma—the album channels the raw\, ecstatic energy of the band’s live show into a dynamic collection of songs that pulse with warmth\, honesty\, and human connection. \nRecorded live in Muscle Shoals\, AL\, after a writing retreat in a converted Kentucky firehouse\, the album is both a celebration and a reckoning: of friendship\, loss\, love\, and resilience. From the gritty\, Stones-tinged opener “After The Rain” to the soul-stirring closer “What A Time To Be Alive\,” the record captures the joy and vulnerability that have long defined The Lone Bellow’s sound—lush harmonies\, heartfelt lyrics\, and genre-blurring arrangements steeped in folk\, rock\, and gospel. \nThe album’s creation was marked by setbacks\, including the theft of early recordings\, but the outpouring of support from their fanbase reaffirmed what the band has always known: their music is a shared experience. That spirit echoes throughout the album\, whether in anthems like“Common Folk” and “I’m Here For You\,” or in intimate reflections like “You Were Leaving” and “Night Goes Black.” \nSince their acclaimed 2013 debut\, The Lone Bellow has appeared on The Tonight Show\, Austin City Limits\, and The Late Show\, topped Americana charts\, and headlined storied venues from Carnegie Hall to the Ryman Auditorium. But with their next album\, they reaffirm their commitment not just to making music\, but to building community—on stage\, in song\, and around the table. \nAbout Fabrizio (opening act): \nBorn in the highlands of Huánuco\, Peru\, he set out on his own and landed in the foothills of Georgia at the age of 15 to fend for himself. Fabrizio brings a truly unique voice and perspective to the Americana and country music scene. With a deep\, powerfulbaritone that can shake the walls and stir the soul\, Fabrizio fuses the raw emotion of traditional country with the storytelling spirit of his journey. Now based in Nashville\, TN at 23\, Fabrizio continues to carve out a space in the Southern music scene\, captivating audiences with his commanding voice. He’s not just a singer\, he’s a storyteller with a voice that doesn’t just sing the song\, he lives it.
