SUMMARY:Scruffy Roots Fest - 10/4 - Vaden Landers\, Wyatt Ellis & a Tom Petty Tribute from The Deep Fakes
DESCRIPTION:Kerns Food Hall presents the first-ever Scruffy Roots Fest Saturday evening October 4th at five p.m. on the big stage outdoors with live music from Vaden Landers\, Wyatt Ellis and a Tom Petty Tribute from The Deep Fakes. Doors at 4 p.m. Thanks to Sugarlands Distillery for their support. WDVX is a media sponsor. \n8pm to 9:30pm – Wyatt Ellis\n6:15pm to 7:45pm – The Deep Fakes (tom petty tribute set)\n5pm to 6pm – Vaden landers \nFrom the enchanting landscapes of Eastern Tennessee comes the burgeoning talent of Vaden Landers\, a 30-year-old artist weaving a tapestry of melodies that harken back to the golden era of country music. Vaden’s journey began as a train-hopping troubadour and street-busker\, crafting songs that resonate with the very soul of Americana. \nAffectionately dubbed “The Yodeling Country Bluesman\,” Vaden has etched his name into the vibrant streets of Asheville\, North Carolina. His authenticity shines as a torchbearer of the classic country tradition\, infused with a contemporary spark. \nWith an eclectic fusion of honky-tonk\, rockabilly\, folk\, blues\, ragtime\, jazz\, western swing\, and old-time Appalachian influences\, Vaden Landers emerges as a pioneer breathing new life into the traditional country music scene. His performances at various music festivals\, including the illustrious WoodyFest and the renowned Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion\, have left audiences enraptured. \nAs Vaden Landers takes the stage\, he invites you to embark on an enthralling journey – one that transcends time and genre. \n \nWyatt Ellis has accomplished more by age 16 than many musicians do in a lifetime. Hailing from the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee\, he’s quickly emerging as one of bluegrass music’s brightest young stars. With virtuosic mandolin playing\, heartfelt vocals\, and original songwriting\, Wyatt blends the deep traditions of bluegrass with a fresh\, youthful energy. Backed by a powerhouse band of Appalachia’s finest young musicians\, Wyatt delivers high-octane performances that range from the Grand Ole Opry to major festivals like MerleFest and Gray Fox. His band’s signature single-mic setup showcases their tight harmonies\, high-lonesome vocals\, and blistering solos\, creating a sound steeped in tradition yet driven by the future. Wyatt’s breakout year included a debut at the Newport Folk Festival\, chart-topping original instrumentals from his debut album\, and becoming one of the youngest regular performers in Grand Ole Opry history. His authentic Appalachian songwriting and seasoned stage presence have quickly set him apart as a once-in-a-generation talent with a deep respect for bluegrass music’s heritage. 2024’s IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year and twice nominated for IBMA’s New Artist of the Year\, Wyatt has collaborated with legends like Peter Rowan\, Marty Stuart\, and the late Bobby Osborne. His January 2025 release\, Winds of Rowan County\, a duet with Rowan\, celebrated bluegrass roots while symbolically passing the torch. Wyatt’s lead and harmony mandolin solo on Bobby Osborne’s final recording of “Rocky Top\,” along with their co-written instrumental “Fern Branch\,” were both featured on Osborne’s posthumous album\, a tribute to Wyatt’s connection to his hero and mentor. With a debut vocal album of all-new original songs on the way\, Wyatt Ellis stands poised at the forefront of bluegrass\, honoring the legacy of the genre while boldly pushing it forward into a new era. \n \nFrom rock ‘n roll to new wave\, The Deep Fakes play spot on versions of our favorite music of the cassette and vinyl era. Whether it’s a chart topping hit or a deep cut\, every effort is made to accurately capture and reproduce the original studio release. \n  \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

With the release of her first album under her own name\, “Evie’s Great Adventure\,” the fiddler/vocalist ready to deliver the main course. \nThe new album is flat-out feel-good music delivered with the same heart and soul that’s made Evie a popular performed all across the Southeast. \nMaybe you caught her bands Barefoot Sanctuary or Buffalo Fiasco\, or heard her backing up renowned cellist Dave Eggar\, irreverent singer-songwriter Roger Alan Wade\, or performing at the Big Ears Festival with improvisational great Lonnie Holley\, or maybe you spotted her backing up Foreigner on a short tour. There’s also the possibility that you heard her music on the HBO series “The Outsider” or saw her appearance on “American Ninja Warrior.” \nBorn in Fargo\, N.D. and raised in Minot\, N.D.\, Evie began playing fiddle at six years old in her father’s band Crossroads\, but she was already a stage veteran. She first performed on stage at the age of 3\, blowing a train whistle\, on one of her father’s songs. \n \nIn a musical world where singer-songwriters are a dime a dozen\, you will find in Jon Whitlock a refreshingly unique sound: a combination of gorgeous original melodies and intellectual\, poignant stories that will surprise you and move you. \nOriginally trained as a drummer\, he was drawn not just to the performance side of drumming\, but even more so to the creative side. Traveling the world as a drummer for touring bands\, the vast experiences of life\, love\, and loss inspired his creative side. Eventually he picked up a guitar\, taught himself to play in a style that made sense to his percussive background\, and started writing songs about what makes us human. What emerged is a beautifully melodic and rhythmic finger-picking guitar sound mixed with poetic\, philosophical\, romantic\, and humorous lyrics. Jon has a knack for understanding the human experience; the words he writes\, his gentle demeanor\, and the style of his playing immediately draw you in and make you want more. Constantly working on new songs\, he has a wealth of original material but also enjoys covering unexpected yet recognizable songs from his favorite artists. \n \nRaised on American Roots music in Eastern Tennessee\, Daniel Kimbro is a multi Grammy-nominated musician with 20 years experience performing alongside luminaries including Eric Clapton\, Jerry Douglas\, John Hiatt\, Transatlantic Sessions\, Sarah Jarosz\, Larkin Poe & many others. \nWhile his collaborations are numerous\, his new solo album Carpet In The Kitchen showcases Daniel’s skills as a songwriter\, composer & arranger. Guests on the album include Jerry Douglas\, Mike Baggetta on electric guitar\, & Jordan Perlson on Drumset. \nKnown to International audiences for his work with the Transatlantic Sessions\, Martin Harley\, Harley Kimbro Lewis\, and many others\, Daniel continues to tour throughout the US\, the UK\, and Canada. \n \nMartin Harley has been making music and touring the world for over two decades. His sound has never been more down to earth. Exploring roots\, blues and slide guitar in a style The Guardian referred to as ‘Spellbinding’\, Harley has released eight albums to date\, four recorded on home soil and four across the Atlantic in Texas and Nashville. \nAn album with Grammy nominated Daniel Kimbro and Sam Lewis is on the way for 2022. The three have collaborated live since 2014. “We’ve all jumped of a few rocks together\, physically and mentally\, this record has got scars\, bars and underwater superheroes” 2021 includes some intimate acoustic shows for Martin with a band tour in the autumn. martinharley.com for tours and tickets. \nHis recent nominations include\, AMA instrumentalist of the year\, Best Acoustic Guitarist\, Best Acoustic Blues artist. Notable appearances include Glastonbury Acoustic and Avalon stages\, Beautiful Days\, Royal Albert Hall\, Union Chapel\, Bluebird Nashville\, Tønder Festival\, The Troubadour LA and at home round the fire pit with his two daughters. \n \nSam Lewis isn’t just a musician. He’s a weaver of tales\, capturing the essence of human experience in every note and lyric. Chris Stapleton calls him “a modern Townes Van Zandt\,” with good reason. Lewis’s voice\, often likened to molasses dripping from a Southern porch\, carries a soulful weight that transcends genre. His music is a gumbo of feel-good grooves and vital social commentary. It is a testament to years spent honing his craft on the red dirt roads of the American Southeast.  Read Sam’s biography to learn more about this soulful storyteller weaving tales of humanity. \n \nTexas Tony & The Tornado Ramblers will be bringing some Honky Tonk Outlaw Country to the show!
