SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate – 5/1 — Grits and Greens
DESCRIPTION:GRITS & GREENS IS A PSYCHEDELIC Y’ALT ROCK BAND FROM HATTIESBURG\, MISSISSIPPI WRITING SONGS ABOUT LIFE\, LIBERTY\, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS THAT FANS OF PARAMORE\, PINK FLOYD\, FLEETWOOD MAC\, AND THE ALLMAN BROTHERS WILL ENJOY. \nWhat do you get when you blend: the southern grit of The Allman Brothers\, the progressive rock of Rush\, the punk rock energy of Paramore\, the soulful vocals of Lake Street Dive\, the intricate soundscapes of Pink Floyd – then add a dash of the funk of Little Feat; season with the emotionality of Kings of Leon; and finally garnish with the soaring harmonies of Fleetwood Mac? A cosmic gumbo from Hattiesburg\, Mississippi called Grits & Greens. \nBoasting an infectious energy\, Grits & Greens sends the listener on a musical odyssey at every show—honoring their many influences in a way that feels uniquely authentic. The band combines tight grooves\, catchy melodies\, and charming stage presence with a keen ability to narrate the human experience: telling stories of life’s struggles\, the joys and pains of growing up\, and the realities of social injustice. \nIn 2024\, the band released their debut\, self-titled album selling over 500 vinyl copies in a matter of weeks. Following the release of their first live album\, ‘Live at Purple Bee\,’ in 2025\, the band has just released their latest single\, “So Much Fun.” With recording\, mixing\, mastering done solely by the band and the lyrics a picture of the struggles and triumphs of an up-and-coming band\, the song truly embodies the tenacious\, DIY spirit of Grits & Greens.

SUMMARY:Rebuild Hot Springs presents The 2026 Town & Trail Festival
DESCRIPTION:A free\, two-day celebration of the Appalachian Trail\, the mountains\, and the remarkable community of Hot Springs\, North Carolina. Everyone is welcome.\n\n\nSince 1998\, Trailfest has been a cherished tradition in Hot Springs\, NC. As the first town Appalachian Trail thru-hikers reach on their northbound journey\, Hot Springs has always had a special relationship with the trail — and this festival has been its annual celebration. For nearly three decades\, we’ve welcomed hikers\, locals\, and visitors alike with live music\, delicious food\, and the kind of warm mountain hospitality you can only find here. \n\n\nLast year\, we added something new to the name. “Town & Trail Fest” reflects what this event has always been at its heart — not just a celebration of the trail\, but of the remarkable community that lives alongside it. Hot Springs is a town with a story worth telling\, and we couldn’t think of a better way to tell it than by bringing everyone together for a weekend of music\, laughter\, and good company. \n\n\n\n\nHot Springs sits at mile 273 of the Appalachian Trail — and for hikers who’ve been on the trail for weeks\, rolling into this little mountain town feels like coming home. The festival has always been a love letter to that experience: the trail\, the town\, and the deep connection between them. \n\n\nFor a second year\, Town & Trail Fest is presented by Rebuild Hot Springs Area (RHSA)\, a local nonprofit born out of this community’s response to Hurricane Helene. What this town has accomplished in the face of that challenge is a testament to the spirit of the Appalachian community — and this festival is a celebration of exactly that. All proceeds go directly toward RHSA’s mission of building a stronger\, more resilient Hot Springs. \nTown & Trail Fest is more than a great weekend — it’s a fundraiser for the people and services that make Hot Springs what it is. Last year’s festival raised over $11\,000 for RHSA’s Residential Fund\, helping put families back in their homes and giving this community a foundation to rebuild on. This year\, we’re turning our focus to the men and women who show up no matter what. All proceeds will support RHSA’s Emergency Services Fund\, dedicated to the three volunteer fire departments — Hot Springs\, Spring Creek\, and Country VFD — whose sacrifice and service keep our mountain community safe every single day.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 4/30 — Justin Kaleb/Russell Walker
DESCRIPTION:Justin Kaleb grew up in the foothills of the Arkansas Ozarks and moved to Nashville\, Tennessee at the ripe age of 22. He cut his first record “Homesick Blues” down in the infamous Muscle Shoals\, Alabama with the great Jimmy Nutt (Jimmy Buffett\, Jason Isbell\, American Aquarium) and Gary Nichols (The Steeldrivers)\, and signed his first publishing deal shortly after. What seemed to be a bright immediate future in Nashville soon became a monotonous grind clouded by homesickness and depression. He packed his bags and headed back home to catch his breath. \nAfter a year of being back home in Arkansas and working the Texas and Oklahoma markets\, Nashville came calling again. He found himself back in his old stomping grounds regularly playing shows\, writing music\, and having more fun than he’d ever had before. He partnered up with his old pal Darren King (Project 86/The Overseer) and the songs they were working on quickly became a record. \nJustin Kaleb has seen his fair share of ups and downs. He’s played sold out venues with bands like The Steeldrivers\, and felt the rush of cramming into a 15-passenger van with his best friends to share the stage with bands like Drowning Pool in his early years of fronting a metal band. At the same time\, he’s felt the calmness and serenity of driving through an Alabama cotton field by himself to play for nobody but the bartender. While this ebb and flow way of life might deter most\, he’s learned to find comfort in it. \nDon’t be fooled by his laid-back demeanor. Justin knows that talent is worthless without work-ethic\, and work-ethic can even overcome a lack of talent if you work hard enough. He sees it every day while working with his hands when he’s not on the road or in the studio\, and has experienced first-hand how sometimes just showing up can be the first step toward something great. \nIn the same vein as artists like the Turnpike Troubadours\, Tyler Childers\, and Jason Isbell\, Justin Kaleb brings an element of truth-telling\, blue-collar music that Americana music fans can surely get behind. Jump on board while you can\, because the train’s leaving the station. \n  \nSinger/Songwriter Russell Walker of Honky Tonk Thursday is playing as well!

SUMMARY:Marc Broussard — Live at the Bijou — 4/29
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAcclaimed singer\, songwriter\, and musician Marc Broussard is a unique performer who embodies the essence of American soul and has forged his own distinct musical style. The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard of “The Boogie Kings\,” he nurtured his musical gifts at an early age in the vibrant Lafayette\, Louisiana\, music scene. After releasing a highly successful independent EP at age 20\, Broussard made his major-label debut with Carencro. The album featured the breakout hit “Home” and propelled him into the international spotlight. That album and the others that followed revealed Broussard as a Southern soul singer with a rarefied talent and an innate stylistic and emotional authenticity that has made him one of the most indelible artists of his generation. The Louisiana-born and raised artist has created a wide range of music in his career. Carencro laid the groundwork with unequaled style\, illustrating his knack for modern soul music and setting the stage for his long and distinguished career. NPR cited\, “His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues\, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock ‘n’ roll to create unique and infectious music.” Washington Times noted\, “Few modern voices are as powerful as Marc Broussard’s soulful\, Bayou-bred baritone.” \nBroussard released multiple albums with major labels over the last ten years before returning to his independent roots with several acclaimed original recordings and charitable cover albums via his S.O.S. Foundation (Save our Soul).  His philanthropic releases include Save our Soul\, Save our Soul 11: Soul on a Mission\, A Lullaby Collection\, SOS 111 with accompanying children’s book\, I Love You for You and S.O.S.4: Blues for Your Soul\, his collaboration with blues icon Joe Bonamassa which debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. \nMarc Broussard’s philanthropic efforts extend well over a decade\, beginning with his self-released album Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and his efforts to organize the Momentary Setback Fund to provide financial assistance to those displaced by both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. In 2015\, to further his commitment to tying music to a mission\, he established the S.O.S. Foundation as a conduit to raise money for worthy causes\, including the United Way\, Habitat for Humanity\, the City of Refuge in Atlanta\, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge\, LA\, and the Miami based organization\, Guitars Over Guns. https://www.marcbroussard.com/charity-1  \nBroussard’s latest album\, Time Is a Thief\, is a heartfelt collection of ten original songs that showcase the celebrated Louisiana singer-songwriter’s gritty\, rootsy hooks and infectious grooves\, all conveyed through his fervent vocals. The album marks his first release of original music in seven years and features the uplifting single “Give You The World.” The album has been hailed as “a new masterwork that transcends his previous body of work like the crown jewel does the ascent stones\,” by Blues Rock Review. Louisiana’s The Advocate cited that the “album represents Broussard’s soul- and rhythm-and-blues-informed style better than anything that preceded it.” The album was produced by Grammy-winning guitarist/songwriter/producer Eric Krasno and Grammy-nominated producer/guitarist Jeremy Most. \nIn February 2026\, Broussard will release a new studio album\, S.O.S. V Songs of the ’50s\, via his Artist Tone Records.  The eleven-song set features intoxicating renditions of soul\, blues\, rock\, and pop classics from the Fifties\, two gems from the early Sixties\, and a Broussard original. This vibrant collection offers a sublime showcase for Broussard’s dynamic vocal prowess\, revealing his craftsmanship and passion for an impressive range of enduring American music. S.O.S. V Songs of the ’50s is Broussard’s latest entry in his philanthropic album series benefiting the nonprofit organization\, Love of People\, based in Broussard’s hometown of Lafayette\, LA.

SUMMARY:Charles Wesley Godwin — Mill & Mine — 4/22
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here & find the add-on bundle here. \nFollowing Charles Wesley Godwin’s 2023 critically acclaimed Family Ties — a highly personal\, 17-song diary-like LP that was both universally praised and catapulted the West Virginian singer-songwriter to new heights in his career — the rising musician returned in 2025 with a pair of releases: The Lonely Mountain Town EP and Live From The Steel City. The former is a quieter\, more contemplative affair than Family Ties\, containing some of the most thrilling songs of Godwin’s career. Written principally on the road\, Lonely Mountain Town is at its heart a collection of on-the-move snapshots and quiet moments in life set to tune. The latter\, Live From The Steel City\, is a raucous live record that perfectly encapsulates the energy Charles Wesley Godwin brings to his performances\, which last year included a sold out Red Rocks headline debut and a string of dates opening Eric Church’s Free The Machine Tour. \nGodwin has been on a steady upward climb following his beloved debut album\, 2019’s Seneca. Alongside his longtime band\, the Allegheny High\, the musician has developed a reputation as a thrilling and beautifully raucous live performer. Godwin has appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter\, performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS Saturday Sessions. 2026 will see Godwin release his 4th full-length album\, as well as a slew of tour dates and festivals\, including Stagecoach and Under The Big Sky\, amongst others.

SUMMARY:Penny & Sparrow — Live at the Bijou — 4/18
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nA wise wizard once said: “when in doubt\, always follow your nose.” \nThe last album from Penny and Sparrow\, Olly Olly\, was a work of revelation and liberation. A search for and an embrace of the self. I imagine they were left with a headscratcher of a question: well\, shit. Where do you go from there? \nFortunately\, they listened to the wizard and followed their noses backwards to find their way forward. \nAiming to strip away pretense and invite experimentation\, they commandeered a garden shed from a friend and retrofitted it to make a twenty-track album that is vast\, weird\, and wholly unexpected. \nIf Lefty is anything\, it is the journal of Penny and Sparrow’s inner child. Dog-eared\, lock busted open. On its pages the sketches of dreams\, nightmares\, erotica\, and literary fan fiction graffiti the margins of poetry\, elegies\, and love letters in the wild colors of saxophone blue\, electronic pink\, and blood harmony red. \nBeautifully varied and richly rendered\, it is an album that wanders from theme to theme\, style to style\, exultation to tragedy. Yet it is never lost. If anything\, it is at play. \nUnited by its intimate vocals and aching harmonies\, its acoustic laments trickle into ethereal pop only to surge into whimsical ballads and crest into grand hooligan anthems that sway gently down to familiar shores where melancholic ballads tell of love lost\, found\, forgotten\, and remembered. \nAndy and Kyle have written some albums in blood. Others they’ve whispered to the sea. This one they danced in the sky with smiles on their faces. Lefty feels like not just a celebration of their journey beyond the bounds of their traditional genre\, but as if they have rediscovered the joy in music by honoring the sounds that inspired two boys growing up in Texas to one day make the damn stuff themselves. \n– Pierce Brown\, author and friend

SUMMARY:The WDVX Blue Plate Special – 4/16 — Huey / Shlomo Franklin
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Atlanta\, Ga.\, Huey’s songwriting is deeply in southern folk music. Since playing in various groups for the past 8 years\, most notably her own full band “Huey & The Heaven-sent”\, she’s always called the ATL music scene home. “[She] brings some diversity to what people perceive southern music to be” says Atwood Magazine\, following up the release of their second full-length LP “How to Keep Things Alive”. Heart-clenching and poignant lyrics\, married with folk\, sometimes even jazz\, melodies\, Huey’s songwriting reflects the emotions that she’s embedded in her music. Since becoming a solo artist\, she’s developed a side of the folk genre that sounds like nobody else. \n \nShlomo Franklin is an American singer/songwriter born on a small cow farm in upstate New York. Raised off the cultural grid\, without music\, television\, or radio\, his songs are strongly influenced by his cult-like religious upbringing. Shlomo released his debut album in 2019 which was produced by Grammy Award winner C Lanzbom and released a double album follow up from his now Nashville\, TN home. Franklin has opened up for Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers and shared festivals with The Nude Party and The Bones of JR Jones. His songs seem just as comfortable in front of a crowd of two thousand as they are in a living room house concert. Shlomo sees himself as a bare bones troubadour and is stubbornly trendless. \n  \n

There’s no dodging the wear and tear\, and Little Feat has been playing for quite a while. With tongue stuck somewhat in cheek\, Little Feat announces “The Last Farewell Tour\,” which will begin in April 2026. It’s definitely not an absolute\, never-gonna-play again statement. This wind-down will take several years to accomplish\, and while it does\, Feat will continue to perform and record as long as they are able. It’s a retirement from the travel of touring.

SUMMARY:DelFest Presents: The Travelin' McCourys — Live at the Bijou — 4/9
DESCRIPTION:Click here for tickets! \nFrom a source deep\, abundant\, and pure the river flows. It’s there on the map\, marking place and time. Yet\, the river changes as it remains a constant\, carving away at the edges\, making new pathways\, gaining strength as it progresses forward. The Travelin’ McCourys are that river. \nThe McCoury brothers—Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo)—were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father\, Del\, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music. \n“If you put your mind\, your skills\, and your ability to it\, I think you can make just about anything work on bluegrass instruments\,” says Ronnie. “That’s a really fun part of this—figuring the new stuff out and surprising the audience.” \nThe newest member of the band\, fiddler Christian Ward\, joined after Jason Carter moved on to pursue a solo career. Bassist Alan Bartram\, and Cody Kilby on guitar\, they assembled a group that could take what they had in their DNA\, the traditions they learned and heard\, and push the music forward. In fact\, the band became the only group to have each of its members recognized with an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for their instrument at least once. There were peers\, too\, that could see bluegrass as both historic and progressive. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band\, improv-rock kings Phish\, and jamband contemporary Keller Williams were just a few that formed a mutual admiration society with the ensemble. \nThe band played the Allman’s Wanee Festival and guitarist Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam—an annual holiday homecoming of Southern music. An early-years jam with the Lee Boys was hailed by many as the highlight of the evening\, and with the video catching fire online\, earned a legion of new\, young fans of their supercharged combination of sacred steel\, R&B\, and bluegrass. There were unforgettable collaborations with country smash Dierks Bentley\, onstage magic jamming with titans String Cheese Incident and Phish\, cutting an album with Keller (Pick)\, and creating the Grateful Ball—a tribute concert-turned-tour bridging bluegrass with the iconic music of the Grateful Dead. \n“That’s something that’s part of us being who we are\,” says Ronnie. “It comes\, too\, with us plugging in. It gets louder\, for sure. We can’t be another version of our dad’s band. It wouldn’t make any sense for us to do that.” \nTheir concerts became can’t-miss events\, whether headlining historic venues or as festival favorites\, drawing the love and respect of a growing fanbase craving their eclectic repertoire. At the 2016 edition of DelFest\, an annual gathering of the genre’s best aptly named for the McCoury patriarch\, the band delivered the take-away highlight. Rolling Stone called it “a sublime combination of rock and bluegrass\, contemporary and classic\, old and young. The best set of the festival…” The river was going new places\, getting stronger. It was time to re-draw the map. \n“We’ve tried to pick songs we think people are going to enjoy\,” says Ronnie. “Something we learned from our dad is that a good song is a good song. It can be done in any way.” \nSo arrives the long-awaited\, self-titled debut album from the quintet. A brilliantly executed set overflowing with inventive style\, stellar musicianship\, and\, of course\, plenty of burnin’ grass\, the 14-song collection is a true culmination of their decades-long journey. From the headwaters of Bill Monroe and the waves of Jerry Garcia to a sound both rooted and revolutionary\, soulful and transcending that belongs only to the Travelin’ McCourys. \n“The album definitely shows what we’ve evolved into as a band. And it’s a pretty good representation of what’s happening with the whole genre\,” says Rob. “The old bluegrass material is something I love but it’s been done many times. We’re forging ahead with our own sound. That’s what you have to do to make it all work.”

SUMMARY:Robert Cray Band — Live at the Bijou — 4/3
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \nBlues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things – and more. The Georgia-born\, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV then\, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle\, determined that his destiny would also follow a similar path. And so he has: across the past half century Robert Cray’s developed into one of American music’s most singular artists. \n“I guess you’d have to say that we were lucky\,” reflects Cray on his life in music\, “because\, growing up in the 1960s\, the different music played on the radio really opened us up. I mean\, we even had Albert Collins play our high School graduation party.” \nFrom forming a teenage garage band\, through to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s greatest guitarists\, Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment. Struggle and commitment that led to Cray enjoying phenomenal success – selling millions of albums and countless concert tickets\, winning five Grammy Awards\, being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame\, recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award\, designing two signature model Fender guitars – yet for Robert what’s always mattered most is the music. Every note he plays counts\, every song he sings is delivered as if it is his last: integrity and intensity are what has guided Cray’s musical career. He has never cheapened his output or delivered a substandard performance. Indeed\, his commitment to making music of the highest standard has won Cray both a loyal audience and the respect of many of popular music’s most legendary figures. \nThink about it: Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker\, Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Chuck Berry\, Albert Collins\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric Clapton\, Tina Turner\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s stinging guitar playing and soulful voice\, his skills as a band leader and performer\, mark him as keeper of the flame for American roots music\, an artist who never fails to deliver. \n“We were so lucky just be able to see them\,” says Cray of trading guitar licks on stage with legends of blues\, rock and soul\, “let alone share the stage with them – what an experience!”\nCray’s rise to the top was\, like his music\, a slow burn\, he first building a following in small towns across the Pacific Northwest. Even before Cray had a record deal he enjoyed local hero status – so much so in 1978 he was cast (as a musician) in Animal House\, the blockbuster comedy that made John Belushi famous. 1978 was also the year Cray recorded his debut album\, Who’s Been Talkin’\, although Tomato Records’ internal problems held up Talkin’s release until 1980. And then\, just as Talkin’ was winning great reviews\, Tomato collapsed into bankruptcy. Got the blues? Young Robert certainly could have claimed he had them. But Cray isn’t given to complaining\, instead he persevered\, committed then\, as he is now\, to taking his music to the people. \nAfter Tomato\, Cray and his band – today consisting of Richard Cousins (bass guitar – there since high school days)\, Dover Weinberg (keyboards) and Les Falconer (drums) – used the momentum the album gave them to play further afield. By now Cray was buddies with a young guitarist from Texas: Stevie Ray Vaughan. \n“We played in 1979 at the San Francisco Blues Festival\,” recalls Cray\, “and I watched Stevie’s show and he’s just smoking. Afterwards Richard and I went up and chatted with him and we just hit it off. Stevie was great – if we were in Austin he’d always come and join us on stage.” \nSigning to Hightone\, Cray’s 1983 album Bad Influence established him internationally: he was invited to play Carnegie Hall\, toured Europe\, later finding Eric Clapton recording Bad Influence’s title track. 1985 saw Cray’s False Accusations album increase his standing as the foremost singer of blues noir songs\, while that year’s Showdown! – a sizzling collaboration with guitarists’ Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland – won Robert huge acclaim from blues musicians and fans: the new guy’s the real deal! Signing to Mercury Records\, Cray’s 1986 album Strong Persuader ensured he became the first blues/soul musician to breakthrough in the MTV era. \nStrong Persuader won Cray rave reviews from pop and rock critics\, topped charts worldwide\, saw Cray grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording in 1988. Strong Persuader\, with its songs of infidelity\, guilt and unease\, while not in any sense conventional Top 40 music\, proved so strong an album it broke through barriers\, sold millions of copies and would prove extremely influential (2026 being the 40th anniversary.) Cray’s breakthrough allowed both young and older blues and soul musicians to gain wide attention and radio play: John Lee Hooker’s career resurrection came soon after with The Healer\, and Robert plays on that seminal album. \n“It was great to be able to travel around the world\,” says Cray of Strong Persuader’s success. “It afforded us a lot of great opportunities that we were lucky to experience.” Cray’s being modest here: suddenly he found himself the hottest guitarist working – Tina Turner invited Robert to support her huge European tour (every night\, after playing with his band\, Cray would join Tina on stage to play A Change Is Gonna Come)\, then Keith Richards called\, requesting Cray join the band backing Chuck Berry for Taylor Hackford’s celebratory feature length documentary Hail Hail Rock ‘N’ Roll. Here Cray not only got to play with the mercurial Berry (+Linda Ronstadt and Etta James\, amongst many notable artists)\, he also formed a friendship with Steve Jordan\, then drummer for the project and Richards’ solo band. \nNow internationally famous\, Cray found himself in intense demand: he toured with The Stones and played with B.B King\, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. Headlining in noted music festivals – these included Glastonbury in the UK and Crossroads Guitar Festival in the US – and kept developing his sound over a selection of strong albums across the 1990s. Cray’s songwriting has addressed ageing\, love\, loneliness\, domestic turmoil and US politics. \nAs an artist Robert Cray’s aged like fine wine – his voice has developed a greater range and expressiveness\, this he’s put to use on masterful interpretations of such Southern soul standards as I Forgot To Be Your Lover (William Bell)\, Your Good Thing Is About To End (Mable John) and Nobody’s Fault But Mine (Otis Redding). At the same time\, Cray’s guitar playing now possesses an additional depth\, a growl that can hint at a caress then signal emotional upheaval. \nHis recent run of albums – 2014’s In My Soul\, 2017’s Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm and 2020’s masterful That’s What I Heard (all produced by Steve Jordan: now the Stones’ drummer) – are\namongst the very finest he’s made. Every song here is deeply felt\, whether an agonized song of loss\, an angry protest number\, or a dance tune that gets audiences pumping (My Baby Likes To Boogaloois great funky fun). \nAcross five decades Robert Cray has created a richly inclusive American music\, revitalizing both blues and soul while rocking hard with the very best. To achieve 50 years in the music industry and still be as fresh and committed as when starting out is an achievement few can boast of but Cray can: he has released 19 studio albums\, every one replete with his extremely distinctive songs\, won five Grammy Awards and continues to make music that sounds like no one but Robert Cray. “All these years we have been fortunate to do what we love doing\, playing the music we love playing\,” says Cray with a smile. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

SUMMARY:Lucius — Live at the Bijou — 4/1
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets here! \nKnown for their engaging live performances and spell-binding harmonies\, Grammy-nominated indie-pop band Lucius are a mesmerizing experience of mirrored kinship and honesty. In 2025\, the band released their fourth studio album\, Lucius\, which Rolling Stone called “the best album of their career.” Lucius’ most personal and purposeful album to date explores relationships\, motherhood\, and life’s complexities with a unique vulnerability only made possible due to the familial nature of the band. The New Yorker praises\, “The band’s new self-titled album reaches the pinnacle of a vibrant\, harmonic enterprise\,” while Paste describes their sound as “girl-group revivalism\, cosmic pop\, and a kind of bicoastal harmonizing that once echoed through western canyons.” \nLucius’ self-titled record follows an impressive history of critically acclaimed full-length projects. Their debut\, Wildewoman\, introduced their signature dual lead vocals and retro charm. It was widely praised for the album’s throwback sound with NPR declaring it “perfect\, magnetic pop music” Meanwhile\, The Guardian called lead singers Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig’s voices “powerful … melding beautifully in harmony.” With the release of Good Grief in 2016\, Lucius traded some of their folk roots for polished synth-pop. \nThe band’s acclaimed 2022 record\, Second Nature\, marked a striking return\, and was produced by Brandi Carlile and Dave Cobb. Released to overwhelming acclaim\, the Los Angeles Times praised\, “dazzling…Second Nature mines an ’80s-pop sound with lush synths and sleek disco grooves under the women’s laser- guided vocals\,” while Relix proclaimed\, “stunning…a 10-song\, smart-pop masterpiece.” Throughout their acclaimed career\, Lucius has performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”\, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”\, BBC’s Later! with Jools Holland\, PBS’ “Austin City Limits” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show”. Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are some of the most sought-after collaborators in popular music due to their “otherworldly” vocals (Los Angeles Times). The duo have recorded and performed with many artists including Joni Mitchell\, Mumford and Sons\, The National\, Harry Styles\, Ringo Starr\, Ozzy Osborne\, Sheryl Crow\, and Brandi Carlile including appearances on the Grammy stage and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Lucius are Laessig\, Wolfe\, and Peter Lalish.

SUMMARY:Lucero — Mill & Mine — 3/22
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nSince forming in Memphis in the late 90’s\, Lucero’s base musical hallmarks have remained similar to the band’s initial sound established with their first record The Attic Tapes. Over 20 years later\, dedicated fans of the group still flock to hear the band’s punchy driving rhythms\, punk-rooted guitar licks\, and lyrics that evoke the whiskey drenched sentimentality of Americana singer-songwriters. As expected of any band built to survive\, Lucero has welcomed change over the course of their career\, but it has always been on their terms.

SUMMARY:Old Crow Medicine Show - Live at the Tennessee Theatre - 3/20/26
DESCRIPTION:Support for WDVX comes from the historic Tennessee Theatre on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. WDVX is a media sponsor for the Old Crow Medicine Show Friday night March 20th. Tickets go on sale this Friday morning 12/12 at 10am at Tennessee Theatre dot com and the Tennessee Theatre box office. This night includes the opening of the new six twelve building annex! \nFor Old Crow Medicine Show\, playing music has always felt like a holiday celebration. \n“We’re in the joy business\,” says frontman Ketch Secor\, who launched the Grammy-winning band in 1998. “From the very start\, a lot of the virtues of Christmas — the revelry\, the singalongs\, the happiness — have been present in our show.” \nNowhere is that more apparent than OCMS XMAS\, the group’s first holiday album. Decorated with seasonal spirit and string-band stomp\, it’s the rare breed of Christmas record that packs a punch all year long\, shining new light on the band’s chart-topping version of American roots music. Old Crow Medicine Show aren’t just reinterpreting their favorite yuletide standards; they’re adding new songs to the canon\, too\, from “Jolly Man” — a country-blues number inspired by Mississippi John Hurt and laced with harmonica\, sleigh bells\, and resonator guitar — to the Zydeco-flavored “All About A Baby.” \nThey’re telling fresh stories\, too. On “Corn Whiskey Christmas\,” a bootlegger drives his Chevrolet through the snow on Christmas Eve\, bringing moonshine to those craving a cup of cheer. On the John Prine-worthy “Bethlehem\, PA” — a sly reimagining of Jesus’ birth story\, with lyrics that substitute Steel Country for Jerusalem — the band heads to the Keystone State to witness the Nativity\, making stops at Wawa and Motel 6 along the way. “Grandpa’s Gone” grapples with the loss of a family figure during the holiday season\, while the wicked “Krampus Night” puts a minor-key spin on the Christmas catalog\, paying tribute to a folkloric creature who\, according to Secor\, “just might leave ya coal and steal your soul.” \nFor more than a quarter century\, Old Crow Medicine Show’s albums have built a bridge between past and present\, updating the sounds of pre-war folk\, country\, old-time\, and bluegrass for the 21st century. OCMS XMAS continues that custom. There’s plenty of tradition here: a cover of “Holly Jolly Christmas\,” featuring horns from the Tennessee State University ensemble Brassville; a rowdy version of the Appalachian standard “Breakin’ Up Xmas\,” recorded live in the band’s East Nashville headquarters; and a timely take on John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s global peace anthem “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)\,” stacked with church harmonies. Balancing out that reverence for the past\, though\, are songs that boldly live in the present\, from barn-burners like “December 26” (which marks the songwriting debut of longtime band member Morgan Jahnig) to “North By Northeast\,” a tribute to New England winters. That fusion of old and new has always played a crucial role in the band’s longevity. More than 20 years after the release of “Wagon Wheel” — one of the best-selling country singles of all time\, combining a forgotten chorus by Bob Dylan with original verses from Ketch Secor — OCMS XMAS uphold’s Old Crow’s combination of the timely with the timelessness. \n“Some of our favorite country artists are those in the Grand Ole Opry\,” says Secor\, who was inducted into the Opry alongside his bandmates in 2013. “The kind of country music that came out of Nashville during the ’60s\, ’70s\, and ’80s is so different than what you hear today\, and we’ve learned a lot from the elder statesmen of our genre. Many of those cats released Christmas albums and went out on Christmas tours every year\, so there’s a real legacy there. We get to be part of that with this project.” \nA real legacy\, indeed. Old Crow have thrived for more than a quarter century. Like many of their heroes\, they’ve become torchbearers of classic folk music\, reshaping those sounds for the modern world. They’re creators\, not replicators\, and OCMS XMAS finds them tackling another tradition — the time-honored Christmas album — with humor\, hillbilly twang\, and novel ideas. Supported by the band’s first-ever “Holiday Hootenanny” tour\, OCMS XMAS just might be the start of a new tradition itself: a celebration of the seasonal sounds\, shared joy\, and holiday rituals that bring us all together.
