Have some fun with The ORNL Summer Sessions! \n  \nShawn Camp began playing guitar as a small child\, growing up outside Perryville\, Arkansas. Mandolin and fiddle followed\, all before he could drive. He remembers dreaming of melodies\, waking up\, and being able to play them. “I just always loved music. It’s been my everything\, really\,” Camp says. “My dad worked out of state\, so we moved around a lot. Whenever we’d go somewhere\, I’d carry a stack of records and a little record player with my guitar. Music was my only constant––that\, and my mom and dad.” \nA prodigy who never knew how to be anything but\, Camp moved to Nashville at 20\, and found early gigs playing with the Osborne Brothers\, Jerry Reed\, Alan Jackson\, Shelby Lynne\, and Trisha Yearwood. Then\, he really started writing––and singing with sly grace\, smooth but earthy. Camp released his first solo album\, Shawn Camp\, on the Reprise (Warner Bros.) label\, but found his biggest success as a songwriter\, penning hits for Willie Nelson\, Garth Brooks\, Brooks & Dunn\, Josh Turner\, Blake Shelton\, George Strait\, and many others. He became a trusted collaborator of John Prine\, Loretta Lynn\, and of course\, Clark\, with whom he wrote constantly\, and toured occasionally. When Clark won a Grammy in 2014 for his final album\, My Favorite Picture of You\, Camp took home a statue as one of the record’s producers. In 2015\, Camp took home another Grammy\, this time\, as lead vocalist for bluegrass supergroup the Earls of Leicester. \nSongwriters seem to flourish on the fertile Oklahoma plains. Woody Guthrie\, Roger Miller\, Leon Russell\, J.J. Cale and Jimmy Webb. Add Verlon Thompson to that list. \nThirty years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour serve as credentials. As a solo performer\, and as the trusted sidekick of Texas Americana songwriting icon Guy Clark\, Verlon has viewed the world from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma). \nAlong the way Verlon Thompson compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson\, Dierks Bentley\, Anne Murray\, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Kenny Rogers\, Randy Travis\, Del McCoury\, Sam Bush\, Trisha Yearwood and many more. \nVerlon has co-produced Guy Clark’s Grammy nominated cd “Cold Dog Soup” as well as “The Dark”\, “Workbench Songs” and “Somedays the Song Writes You”. \nEqually important in his songwriting and live performances\, Verlon’s guitar work cannot go unnoticed. The latest album\, Sound Signal Serenades\, was released as a special 2026 Record Store Day limited edition LP. Jay Farrar’s work often seeks out the ghosts of America’s discordant or forgotten past\, converses at length with them\, and writes songs that stake a claim to a better future. \n— \nThom Jurek at All Music said it best\, “Only Gram Parsons‘ term “Cosmic American Music” begins to touch her mercurial\, changeling roots aesthetic\, … McNally is a Zen-like\, post-Beat song poet”. For those who have followed McNally’s nearly twenty year career the thing that most sticks with the listener about her\, is the timeless effortlessness that she brings to all she does. With a long catalog and longer list of peers with whom she has written\, recorded and toured\, McNally continues to turn out great music that defies blatant genre-fication. \nAt home across the American (Americana) music spectrum\, the Grammy nominee who’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990’s with bands like Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks\, writes as well as she interprets the songs of others\, has a top tier musicality to her craft\, a soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour’s wanderlust\, not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an excellent electric guitar player. \nLike her anti-hero heros J.J. Cale\, Tom Waits\, Bob Dylan. Dr. John\, and Jim Dickinson\, McNally knows who she serves. She serves the song. Her quiet but steady plodding through the many layers of the business of music\, hasn’t ever been rewarded with massive fame and fortune but in time that slow burn has become the treasure in and of itself. \nThe part of McNally’s narrative that is often missed is that not only has she self-managed herself for nearly all of her career but that she has also been a stout warrior-like-artist who often went toe-to-toe with label heads and A&R to defend and fight for her visions. She left the major label world after ten years at Capital/EMI to fend for herself on various smaller labels and self-release paradigms. Perhaps the business of music is finally catching up with her independent spirit. We shall see.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate — 9/25 — Still Moves
DESCRIPTION:Still Moves isn’t just another band – they’re a sonic journey born in a basement studio in Clarksville\, Tennessee. What started as a musical friendship between Lucian Greene and Isaac Frost quickly evolved into something magical. They teamed up with Ben Colling and Bo Hunter for the first project. Their debut EP “Henry\,” a heartfelt tribute to their late piano/sax player Henry Rives\, dropped in April 2022 and set the stage for their unique Rock/Americana/Psychedelic sound. Completely self-produced in Isaac’s 1419 records basement studio\, the band’s raw and authentic approach caught people’s attention. \nTheir second EP “Until” followed in March 2023\, showcasing their growing musical chemistry. But the real game-changer came when Cody Kirby (drums) and Dalton Akins (bass) joined the lineup\, transforming Still Moves from a duo into a full-throttle live powerhouse. Their self-titled album\, released on August 30th\, 2024\, captures the electric energy of their expanded lineup – a testament to their journey from basement jam sessions to a dynamic Americana/Rock & Roll band. Cage Riot called the self-titled album\, “a genre-bending masterpiece.” Later that year Michael Davidson joined the group on organ/keyboards\, and completed the band’s full lineup. The second album “Roots” was just released on November 21st on all streaming platforms. Go give it a listen! \nBut to really get the full Still Moves experience\, you need to check them out live. DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nJ2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary\, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar\, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo\, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship\, incomparable songwriting\, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. \nJorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California\, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John’s band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson’s guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nHerb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician\, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman\, Earl Scruggs\, Gram Parsons\, Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Stephen Stills\, Linda Ronstadt\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Jackson Browne and John Denver. \nMark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He’s toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks\, Alan Jackson\, Travis Tritt\, Dwight Yoakam\, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton\, as well as producing many artists in jazz\, country\, bluegrass and gospel genres. \nPatrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin and banjo\, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in “The Mighty Wind.” \nJ2B2’s debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. The album was recently released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition\, 3-CD box set called DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records)\, which has received vast critical acclaim. DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 – From The Crow’s Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet – Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson – Gifts From The Flood(instrumental electric guitar). \nIn addition to recording their first album as a group\, J2B2 has played several major tour dates over the course of the past two and a half years\, including tours of Norway and the UK\, performances at the annual RockyGrass Festival in Lyons\, Colorado; the Joe Val Festival in Framingham\, Massachusetts; and headlining the Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain\, Colorado\, three years in a row. DESCRIPTION:Although Jay Clark went to college for 11.5 years and has a PhD in wildlife ecology\, he somehow ended up striking a balance between careers in music & science.  Jay grew up in Winchester\, Tennessee\, near where the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau crosses from Tennessee into Alabama.  His dad was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister for 42 years.  His mom an English teacher.  Church played a huge roll in Jay’s upbringing.  It was in the church where Jay learned to sing & in the mountains where he felt closest to God.  Jay wrote his first song in 1990.  He didn’t know how to play guitar\, so he taught himself to play in order to put music to his first song.  That song was the first of many. \nJay has been a staple in the East Tennessee music scene for more than 20 years.  During his college years\, Jay not only trapped & conducted research on black bears in the Smokies\, but also played in a couple of different bluegrass bands\, most notably a brother-style duo with Keith Garrett (currently of The Boxcars) and later in a bluegrass band\, The Stringbeans\, with Robinella and Cruz Contreras (currently of The Black Lillies).  Since releasing his first record in 2004 (Pen to Paper)\, Jay has supplemented his career as a scientist with performing his songs across the Southeast & southern Appalachia.  Presently\, Jay plays a number of his shows with his band\, Jay Clark & the Tennessee Tree Beavers\, which features Greg Horne on lead guitar & Daniel Kimbro on upright bass.  Jay recently released his fifth recording\, Of Mountains & Heartbreak (2016).  He still uses the other side of his brain as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at Maryville College.  Jay resides in the foothills of the Smokies on 31.5 acres in Rockford\, TN\, with his wife\, Stacy\, and their pack of rescue hounds.

DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nAMY SPEACE – Nashville \nHeralded by Rolling Stone\, The New York Times\, Billboard Magazine and NPR’s “Weekend Edition\,” Amy Speace was discovered in 2005 by Judy Collins\, who signed her to her record label and released her debut “Songs For Bright Street” on her own Wildflower Records. Judy championed Amy early in her career\, taking her on the road with her and recording her song\, “The Weight of the World\,” calling it one of the best folk songs she’d heard in decades. Amy had been living and playing the NYC downtown coffeehouse scene\, having moved to NYC after Amherst College to study classical acting. In the mid-1990’s\, she co- founded Five Points Theater Company\, which produced works of unknown plays by voices out of the demographic of the lower east side\, introducing work by Hispanic and African American authors\, as well as new versions of Shakespeare’s plays recasting them in the voices of the immigrant experience. A classically-trained singer (she almost went to Eastman Conservatory\, but wanted to be a writer as well as a singer\, and didn’t want to commit to opera at the time) and a long time musician and poet\, she picked up a used guitar in a pawn shop on St. Mark’s Place and learned a few chords from the “boyfriend in a band.” After writing only a few songs\, she was invited to play a gig at The Bitter End by Kenny Gorka who’d heard her and compared her to Joan Baez. In 2009\, Amy relocated to Nashville after signing a record and management deal with Thirty Tigers and has since\, released 8 critically-acclaimed records\, most in collaboration with Grammy- nominated producer/songwriter Neilson Hubbard. “The Blue Rock Session\,” her 10 th solo album\, was released in December 2025 and reached #1 immediately on the Folk Radio Charts\, as did her previous three albums. She’s the 2020 winner of the AMA UK’s International Song of the Year for her song\, “Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne.” She has been featured on NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and in a segment for “Marketplace.” Craig Havighurst of Nashville’s WMOT radio calls her “Sublime and inimitable…Speace has been one of [Nashville’s] premiere folk artists of the last decade.” Amy has played many festivals around the world\, including Rocky Mountain Folks Festival\, Philadelphia Folk Festival\, Glastonbury Music Festival\, legacy stages like The Grand Ole Opry and The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and is a favorite of “Mountain Stage Radio.” A well-respected writer\, she’s had essays published in The New York Times\, No Depression\, Working Mother Magazine\, Salon.com and leads workshops in songwriting and performance. Her forthcoming debut collection of poetry\, The Cardinals\, will be published by Red Hen Press on September 1\, 2026. In 2025 she published To The Performer: A Handbook for Singer-Songwriters. She holds an MFA in poetry from Spalding University. \n  \nSPECIAL GUEST: East Tennessee’s Favorite – Robin Ella Bailey \nRobinella’s ​career began with a sort of luck that rarely comes to most artists within their lifetime. What started out as a simple husband-and-wife duo fresh out of college quickly grew to a full-fledged band that blended Bluegrass\, Country and Jazz. The combination of Robinella’s honey-sweet vocals with violin\, mandolin\, bass\, drums and piano captivated audiences\, thus creating the ever popular Robinella & the CC Stringband.\nThey released their first album\, self-titled Robinella and The CC Stringband\, in 2000\, which quickly followed\, No Saint\, No Prize in 2001. Both were on the independent label Big Gulley Records. With a few simple twists of fate\, what followed was a whirlwind of rapid success – Columbia Records liked what they heard and signed Robinella in 2002. The label took seven songs from the band’s two prior albums and released them as the CD Blanket for My Soul and then released a full album in 2003\, Robinella and the CC Stringband. This led to a national tour including opening for such artists as Bob Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, Earl Scruggs\, Nickel Creek\, Robert Earl Keen\, Kasey Chambers\, Del McCoury and Rodney Crowell as well as an appearance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and a music video on CMT for their hit single\, “Man Over”. She also performed on NPR’s “Mountain Stage\,” appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and performed on PBS’s “SoundStage.” In 2006\, Robinella was nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the Americana Music Awards and released her fourth album\, “Solace for the Lonely”\, on Dualtone Records in Nashville.\nBut then life\, as it has a tendency to do\, threw a few curveballs her way. She became a mom and a couple of years later\, she and her husband/musical partner split up with a new record almost completed. Exhausted and somewhat disillusioned with the industry and its promises\, it was time to regroup\, redefine and get back to her roots. So she returned to her home\, the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains\, and got back in touch with what she truly wanted – love\, family\, friendship\, music\, art\, truth.\nWith that comes her latest release\, “Fly Away Bird”\, her most mature work. However\, within the melancholy and touches of sadness there is not true despair. For such a voice — that dazzling\, warm\, bright-as-summer-sunshine soprano — to even communicate it would most likely defy certain laws of emotional physics. No\, instead\, this album\, beneath the disappointments\, she is brimming with optimism — with hope. You can feel it\, and even more important than that\, you believe — because she believes\, and because her music is so honest and so genuine and so forthright that you just can’t help but knowing that this is an artist who still finds life to be magical.

This live concert and radio show features The Montvales and Garrett Boys. Doors open at 6:00 PM! All ages are welcome. \nBorn and raised in Knoxville\, TN\, Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of The Montvales spent much of their formative years busking amidst the Elvis impersonators and musical saw players of the town’s Market Square\, honing their uniquely boisterous harmonies and perfecting the art of people-watching. Some fifteen years later\, the two are still at it-maintaining their study of the robust chaos of the commons as they tour the country playing their descriptive\, textured songs on the self-described “feral outskirts of country music.”  Their lyrics tackle everything from heartbreak to gentrification to abortion rights\, pulling audiences in alongside their well-worn harmonies and nearly telepathic musical connection.   \nIn 2020\, the Montvales recorded their first album Heartbreak Summer Camp in a living room. The stripped-down\, DIY folksongs span their young adulthood\, beginning in their teens and taking them through their mid 20s. Then\, seeking a more polished\, full-band sound\, the duo recorded their next album Born Strangers at Sean Sullivan’s Tractor Shed Studio in Goodlettsville\, TN\, recruiting Nashville stalwart Mike Eli LoPinto (guitarist for Chris Stapleton\, producer of Emily Nenni’s On the Ranch) to produce it.  The record garnered them a dedicated cult following and has been featured by outlets such as Holler\, American Songwriter\, Twangville\, and more.   \nThe Montvales have gone on to share the stage with bands like Willy Tea Taylor and the Fellership\, The Local Honeys\, James McMurtry\, and Mama’s Broke\, and have appeared at festivals such as Healing Appalachia and the Old Quarter Songwriter Festival.  In 2025 they signed with Free Dirt Records to release the single “Loud and Clear”\, with a hint at more new music to come.   \nEvery family has its own unique history\, a timeline fleshed out by memorable characters\, milestone events\, and the stories passed on through the decades that bind it all together. For the Garrett Boys\, a family trio from Overton County in east Tennessee\, their history just happens to lend itself to some excellent Appalachian folk music. \nMade up of brothers Stephen and Russell Garrett\, and Stephen’s son Carter\, the Garrett Boys are rooted\, both musically and physically\, in 500 hilly\, wooded acres that have had a magnetic pull over their family for generations. DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nNash is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee\, with Crosby\, Stills\, and Nash\, and with the Hollies. He was also inducted twice into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame\, as a solo artist and with CSN\, and he is a GRAMMY Award winner. \nTowering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his multi-faceted career stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of the past half-century. His remarkable body of work\, beginning with his contributions to the Hollies opus\, including “On a Carousel” and “Carrie Anne\,” continues all the way to Now (2023)\, his most recent solo album. \nThe original classic union of Crosby\, Stills & Nash (& Young) lasted but twenty months.  Yet their songs are lightning rods embedded in our DNA\, starting with Nash’s “Marrakesh Express\,” and “Lady of the Island\,” from the first Crosby\, Stills & Nash LP (1969)\, and “Teach Your Children” and “Our House” on CSNY’s Déjà Vu (1970). \nNash’s solo career debuted with Songs For Beginners (1971)\, which included “Chicago/We Can Change the World” and “Military Madness” and others. In addition to his string of solo albums\, he has performed and recorded with David Crosby as Crosby/Nash. Their eponymously titled Graham Nash/David Crosby (1972) is bookended by Nash’s “Southbound Train” and “Immigration Man”.

DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nAJ Lee & Blue Summit are an award-winning\, energetic\, charming\, and technically jaw-dropping band quickly rising on the national roots music scene. Originally based in Santa Cruz\, California\, the group met as teenagers\, picking and jamming together as kids at local bluegrass festivals until one day\, they decided they would be a band. After almost a decade on the road\, they have established themselves as one of the most exciting and dynamic groups in Bluegrass. \nThe band is AJ Lee on mandolin\, fiddler Jan Purat\, Sullivan Tuttle on guitar\, and Sean Newman on Bass. The band carries that youthful\, festival-parking-lot energy with them still today\, but at the same time there’s a genuine ease and confidence to their music making. Their critically acclaimed third studio album City Of Glass was released on Signature Sounds records in 2024. 2025 saw the release of a series of covers featuring guests such as Lindsay Lou\, Trey Hensley\, Ahn Phung and Kyle Tuttle called Cover to Cover V.1.  \nCover to Cover V1 explores the wide variety of musical interests and influences that have helped AJ Lee & Blue Summit develop their unique sound as a band. “Tear My Stillhouse Down”\, featuring guest vocals from Bluegrass and Americana powerhouse Lindsay Lou\, comes from one of AJ’s favorite singers and songwriters\, Gillian Welch. The band pays tribute to their California roots with a steaming Bluegrass version of New Riders of the Purple Sages “Glendale Train” featuring Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway’s own Kyle Tuttle (no relation!). Sully Tuttle\, Molly’s younger brother\, takes the lead on the early jazz burner “Who Walks In (When I Walk Out)” which features inspiring guest appearances from Grammy Award winning guitarist Trey Hensley and renowned flutist Ahn Phung. AJ takes back the lead on a striking rendition of the country classic “Takes One to Know One”. The EP closes out with former member Scott Gates taking the lead on his country ballad style rendition of The Monkees class and Shrek famous “I’m a Believer”. \nAJ Lee & Blue Summit are an exemplary band so unconcerned with being remembered\, with being enshrined\, that they have gone about playing songs that will surely be held onto and cherished forever.

DESCRIPTION:When Levi Foster flew to Los Angeles carrying a 1966 Martin guitar and a stack of restless songs that didn’t quite fit Nashville’s modern mold\, he wasn’t chasing polish\, he was chasing freedom. The result is Foster’s second full-length album Appalachian Funk Tree (out October 9\, 2026)\, produced by Shooter Jennings at the legendary Snake Mountain (Sunset Sound Studio 3) in Hollywood. \nAt a moment when mainstream country continues to lean sleek and radio-ready\, Foster’s music digs into something stranger and more unpredictable. The 13 tracks on Appalachian Funk Tree blend mountain gospel spirit\, Red Dirt attitude\, new and traditional Country\, and Americana storytelling that feels lived-in rather than manufactured. Jennings\, known for championing artists who exist outside traditional boundaries\, approached the project less as a producer chasing perfection and more as a collaborator helping Foster build a sonic world where humor\, chaos\, and hard-won truths could coexist. \nLevi Foster writes songs that feel like tall tales told at the end of a long night – part humor\, part hard truth\, and always rooted in the storytelling traditions of American music. “Fat Elvis\,” the first song released off the album\, is a rowdy\, cinematic introduction to Foster’s evolved sound. What began as a late-night joke among friends sparked by the line in the song “sweatin’ like fat Elvis on a postcard down in Memphis\, Tennessee” quickly evolved into something larger. Set against the chaos of Mardi Gras in New Orleans\, “Fat Elvis” unfolds like a hazy fever dream of American excess and hard-earned lessons\, blending humor with a darker reflection on fading icons\, bad decisions\, and the strange mythology we build around ourselves.   The track signals a new chapter for an artist determined to push beyond genre lines without abandoning his roots. \nFoster’s songs wander through strange characters\, human flaws\, and the kind of moments that feel too real to be made up.
