DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here! \nJ2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary\, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar\, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo\, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship\, incomparable songwriting\, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. \nJorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California\, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John’s band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson’s guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nHerb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician\, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman\, Earl Scruggs\, Gram Parsons\, Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Stephen Stills\, Linda Ronstadt\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Jackson Browne and John Denver. \nMark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He’s toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks\, Alan Jackson\, Travis Tritt\, Dwight Yoakam\, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton\, as well as producing many artists in jazz\, country\, bluegrass and gospel genres. \nPatrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin and banjo\, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in “The Mighty Wind.” \nJ2B2’s debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. DESCRIPTION:Carmen Sclafani\, professionally known as Wiser Time\, is a vocalist\, songwriter\, guitarist and producer from New Jersey\, USA. His work has received recognition for it’s soulful vocals and musical style which consists of concept albums that blend rock\, Americana\, blues and folk influences. Wiser Time’s debut album was There And Back Again (2006)\, followed by All For One (2008)\, Beggars And Thieves (2010)\, XII (2012) and Within (2017). Following the release of the EP\, “Worlds Collide\,” in 2020\, Wiser Time released the 7-track album titled\, “All Fired Up\,” in 2024. \n\n\nWiser Time was formed in 2001 by singer/songwriter/guitarist\, Carmen Sclafani\, in the small town of Millington\, New Jersey\, USA\, just outside of New York City. He had been working in art and design during the days while performing in coffee-houses and clubs of New Jersey and New York during the evenings\, becoming a fixture in the local music scene. \nSclafani wrote and recorded material that would eventually become Wiser Time’s first full-length album\, “There And Back Again\,“ in the fall of 2006 with producer Anthony Krizan (Amphibian\, Lenny Kravitz\, Spin Doctors). The album was received well and radio stations began playing it while Sclafani continued to perform throughout the New Jersey/New York area\, as well as stops across the United States to the California coast. \nWiser Time’s second full-length album\, “All For One\,“ was recorded and released on February 1\, 2008 and was a raw and emotional album that was heavily influenced by the weight of the times. Jerry Ewing of Classic Rock Magazine wrote\, “It’s fluidly enjoyable stuff…rocking hard\,” * giving the album 7/10 stars. \nSclafani also spent time exploring some of his earlier folk work\, and was inspired to write and record a selection of stripped-down songs including the acoustic ballad\, “Looking For Bob Dylan“ and the emotional “What You Give – Unplugged.“ \n \nCody Gentry has found his voice and honed in his skills in every music hall\, bar\, and coffeehouse he has played\, with his only intention being to connect his music with the people listening. Cody has spent the last five years playing music around the southeast\, all the while listening\, studying\, and seeking what every writer needs: Inspiration. The road for inspiration took Cody back to his home\, the vibrant and often perilous foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. \nWith a desire to pay homage to the foothills and the storytellers of his youth\, Cody recorded his first album\, Blue Ridge Gold. This debut album was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dean Miller. Blue Ridge Gold is set to release this year\, of which two singles have been receiving radio airplay on satellite and terrestrial. The album tackles subjects of love\, hearbreak\, victory\, and vindication through clouds of fiction and reality. Cody now travels with two bandmates\, of whom are multi-instrumentalists and lifelong friends. Performing as a three-piece band\, Cody Gentry has crowds singing along while focusing on the carefully crafted lyrics of his songs.

SUMMARY:The WDVX Big Plate — 9/25 — Still Moves
DESCRIPTION:Still Moves isn’t just another band – they’re a sonic journey born in a basement studio in Clarksville\, Tennessee. What started as a musical friendship between Lucian Greene and Isaac Frost quickly evolved into something magical. They teamed up with Ben Colling and Bo Hunter for the first project. Their debut EP “Henry\,” a heartfelt tribute to their late piano/sax player Henry Rives\, dropped in April 2022 and set the stage for their unique Rock/Americana/Psychedelic sound. Completely self-produced in Isaac’s 1419 records basement studio\, the band’s raw and authentic approach caught people’s attention. \nTheir second EP “Until” followed in March 2023\, showcasing their growing musical chemistry. But the real game-changer came when Cody Kirby (drums) and Dalton Akins (bass) joined the lineup\, transforming Still Moves from a duo into a full-throttle live powerhouse. Their self-titled album\, released on August 30th\, 2024\, captures the electric energy of their expanded lineup – a testament to their journey from basement jam sessions to a dynamic Americana/Rock & Roll band. Cage Riot called the self-titled album\, “a genre-bending masterpiece.” Later that year Michael Davidson joined the group on organ/keyboards\, and completed the band’s full lineup. Her quiet but steady plodding through the many layers of the business of music\, hasn’t ever been rewarded with massive fame and fortune but in time that slow burn has become the treasure in and of itself. \nThe part of McNally’s narrative that is often missed is that not only has she self-managed herself for nearly all of her career but that she has also been a stout warrior-like-artist who often went toe-to-toe with label heads and A&R to defend and fight for her visions. She left the major label world after ten years at Capital/EMI to fend for herself on various smaller labels and self-release paradigms. Perhaps the business of music is finally catching up with her independent spirit. We shall see.

Have some fun with The ORNL Summer Sessions! \n  \nShawn Camp began playing guitar as a small child\, growing up outside Perryville\, Arkansas. Mandolin and fiddle followed\, all before he could drive. He remembers dreaming of melodies\, waking up\, and being able to play them. “I just always loved music. It’s been my everything\, really\,” Camp says. “My dad worked out of state\, so we moved around a lot. Whenever we’d go somewhere\, I’d carry a stack of records and a little record player with my guitar. Music was my only constant––that\, and my mom and dad.” \nA prodigy who never knew how to be anything but\, Camp moved to Nashville at 20\, and found early gigs playing with the Osborne Brothers\, Jerry Reed\, Alan Jackson\, Shelby Lynne\, and Trisha Yearwood. Then\, he really started writing––and singing with sly grace\, smooth but earthy. Camp released his first solo album\, Shawn Camp\, on the Reprise (Warner Bros.) label\, but found his biggest success as a songwriter\, penning hits for Willie Nelson\, Garth Brooks\, Brooks & Dunn\, Josh Turner\, Blake Shelton\, George Strait\, and many others. He became a trusted collaborator of John Prine\, Loretta Lynn\, and of course\, Clark\, with whom he wrote constantly\, and toured occasionally. DESCRIPTION:The Clover Valley Boys are a string band trio performing old time country music.  The band’s lineup features Coleman Akin\, Mo Kinney\, and George Aschmann. \nThey play a variety of instruments including fiddles\, banjo\, guitar\, steel guitar\, and mandolin.  Hailing from Tennessee\, Georgia\, and Virginia respectively\, the members have been playing together in different projects for years and have come together to form a group that engages audiences with harmony singing\, tight instrumentals\, dance numbers\, and an earnest take on an old-timey sound. \n \nThe Co-Conspirators is a Hemmingford\, QC based duo playing folk/singer-songwriter music with elements of country\, rock\, blues\, gospel\, bluegrass\, spiritual\, and general roots music. With heavy emphasis on vocal harmonies\, this duo had been compared to The Weavers\, Ian and Sylvia Tyson and Richard and Linda Thompson. They perform mostly original music along with some traditional and contemporary covers. \nMostly performing as a duo\, they do occasionally add various instruments available to them such as bass\, drums\, percussion\, flute\, clarinet\, lead guitar\, violin\, cello\, harmonica\, banjo\, auto harp\, and vibraphone. \nDescribed as modern day troubadours\, The Co-Conspirators have performed at hundreds of house concerts\, folk societies\, festivals\, seniors and community centres\, bars\, and restaurants. \nThe Co-Conspirators have released 4 albums to date\, “Shadowing the Organ Tuner” (with full band)\, “The Unreliable Narrators” (a duo album of originals)\, and their 3rd album\, “Half a Tank of Gas and a Full Case of Beer” (a Fred Eaglesmith Tribute)\, was release in July 2023. \n“War Is A Racket and Other Irrefutable Truths” is a collection of anti-war\, protest\, social justice\, and labour rights songs. It was released January 2025. \nIn January 2025 they also undertook their first USA tour\, with 17 shows from Washington DC to Texas and points in-between. \nThey continue to tour as much as possible.

DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets Here! \nRefugia Blues\, the fifth album from Nick Shoulders\, is a record of big ideas and small\, intimate moments. \nThese nine songs are rooted in the stylings of Southern traditional music. Sparse\, timeless\, and unamplified\, they’re older than the sounds Shoulders saluted on albums like 2023’s All Bad\, with its loud\, whooping anthems for roadhouses and sweaty dancehalls. Here\, Shoulders isn’t shouting over a band. He isn’t bringing a crowd to its feet with dance-ready tempos. Rather\, he’s exploring another side of his craft by stepping up to a ribbon microphone as a solo performer\, delivering each song with acoustic instruments and a voice that’s equal parts country croon\, Appalachian yodel\, and high-lonesome field holler. As he explains it\, Refugia Blues isn’t just a call to action; it’s a call to rest\, too. \n“This is my Nebraska\,” he says\, nodding to Bruce Springsteen’s lo-fi acoustic record from 1982. “Some people listen to Bruce for the E Street Band and the big radio hits\, but I like the intimacy and rawness of Nebraska instead. I’d like to think of Refugia Blues as a little window into the heart\, as opposed to the drumbeat of a revolution.” \nEven so\, Refugia Blues resolutely pushes for change. Shoulders’ interpretation of American roots music has always been more progressive and punky than the trucks-and-beers conservatism that passes for modern-day country\, and he isn’t checking his activism at the door anytime soon. Refugia Blues does dive into personal territory\, from “Bored Fightin'” (a self-effacing look at Shoulders’ reputation as a left-of-center radical) to the heart-on-sleeve love song “Tatum Spring\,” but it balances the micro with the macro\, too. Topics like climate collapse\, radical anthropology\, generative disruption\, and southern identity run throughout the record\, adding weight to Shoulders’ melodies\, balancing his witty humor with topical weight. The purpose\, he says\, is to utilize his music as “a Trojan Horse that can be accepted by people who don’t hear anything to challenge their sense of comfort and superiority. That’s always been the goal — to say what needs to be said\, but to intersperse it with joy\, humor\, and melody.” \nIt’s a balance that Shoulders has struck in the past\, but never so nakedly alone as he does on the opening track\, “Apocalypse Never.” He wrote the a cappella ballad in the front seat of his band’s shuttle bus\, taking a hard look at each passing town\, noting all the “individualized apocalypses” — houseless encampments\, impoverished communities\, barren cornfields — that unfolded on the other side of the windshield. “Our world has been through countless apocalypses\,” he says. “The refusal to give in to the direness of our circumstances\, while still acknowledging it\, is key to surviving this moment in our history.” \nFor Shoulders\, singing isn’t just a passion; it’s practically a birthright. Born to a musical family with deep roots in Arkansas\, Appalachia\, and Louisiana\, he grew up listening to old-world folk music\, black gospel\, and other sounds that existed long before genres were even invented. “My vocal style is rooted as much in growing up in mountainous Arkansas and having to shout across vast distances to greet my neighbors as it is in my family’s very old way of singing\,” he says. “The way I sing is older than capitalism. Being part of this tradition isn’t meant to be regressive; it’s meant to be liberating. There were time before cash registers and factories\, where people sang like this when they sowed their corn\, and I’m trying to embody that.” \nRefugia Blues was recorded in a home studio outside of Fayetteville\, Arkansas. Tracked to analog tape in two inspired days and laced with light touches of guitar\, banjo\, and fiddle\, the album explores the slower\, softer textures of Shoulders’ music without pulling any punches. On his bare-boned cover of Randy Travis’ “Diggin’ Up Bones\,” he slows down the uptempo classic to a warbling waltz. On “Deux Hurry\,” he taps into his inner Roger Miller\, using wordplay to make light of the darkness that lives within all of us. On “Hill Folk\,” he nods sympathetically to the southerners who’ve witnessed their cultural inheritance become commodified and commercialized over the past half-century. And on the brave\, bold “Dixie Be Damned\,” he sings about “manifest destitution” and the sickness of contemporary American consciousness\, packaging everything into a three-and-a-half minute country gem that’s as tuneful as it is topical. \nBy bridging the gap between past and present\, Shoulders speaks pointedly and poetically about today’s problems\, even as he nods to styles that existed long before the 21st century. “When you listen to the origins of country music in the ’20s and ’30s\, you’re hearing the voice of southern rural dissent against coal companies\, repression\, and depression\,” he says. “The old ballad singers of the Ozarks were conduits for current events\, documenting not only their own lives\, but also dispossession and economic strife on a much bigger scale. Being part of that great stream of rural protest music is something I’m trying to tap into. I want to say things that feel timeless\, deep\, and rooted\, but also touch on topics like endless war and a government collapsing into dictatorship. I want to be part of that tradition of dissent.” \nAt once academic and accessible\, Refugia Blues isn’t just a deep dive into southernness\, but also into Shoulders himself. Released during an era of big-budget country-pop smashes\, it stands tall as something else entirely: a raw\, resolute version of American country music\, punctuated with humor and heavy insights\, stacked high with songs that go down easy but linger in the minds of those willing to invest the time.
