Bullet Backstory – Reverend Freakchild

image

For this edition of the WDVX Bullet Backstory, we sat down with Reverend Freakchild, a New York City-based musician, singer, and songwriter, “known for writing and performing a distinct style of the blues incorporating elements of psychedelic music, country music, and the blues.”

Bullet Backstory tells an artist’s story in his or her own words. The Reverend will be taking the stage today for the Blue Plate Special, so we hope you’ll tune in online or on the radio. Or come on down to the WDVX studio at the Visit Knoxville Visitors Center on Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville.

Take it away Reverend Freakchild!

  • Biggest musical influences – Bob Dylan, the Beatles and the Blues
  • What made you decide to pursue music as a career? Mom was a classical pianist – music in my blood – if I don’t play the blues I start to get depressed.
  • What advice do you have for young musicians who are trying to hone their craft? Play the f*&#ing melody and don’t do drugs.
  • What’s your favorite thing to do in Knoxville? I think I went to this Buddhist meditation last time I played in town – it was at a place behind this really tasty BBq joint.
  • If you could work with any musician (living or deceased) who would it be and why? Daniel Lanois or T Bone Burnett – love most of what those dudes do as producers and think the sounds of the Rev would do well to get their treatment

P.S. Here’s a link to new video for Reverend Freakchild’s hit single ‘All I Got Is Now’
