Seth Walker is a blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter from New Orleans, originally from Burlington, NC. He joined us recently on the Blue Plate Special and performed some tunes from his latest release, “Gotta Get Back”. He told us about working with his family on the song featured in this video, “Blow Wind Blow” by explaining, “Nine records later, we have finally gotten in the studio as a family unit and played some music together. My father composed the arrangements, played cello, and my mother and sister played violins. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this.” (Since he was appearing solo, Seth also joked that we would have to use our imagination on those orchestral sounds.) Outlaw Ritual is a self described “Electric and acoustic / country / folk / Americana / rock & roll band” based out of right here in Knoxville. Comprised of Matt Hagar on vocals, guitars, banjo, and percussion, and Olivia Garriga on the doghouse bass, they are veteran street performers and have been playing together for about four years. They see busking on the street as their “day job” and Matt says their nighttime shows are “…the same songs (we play on the street), but louder”. The Blue Plate Special audience was treated to selections from their new self-titled CD, and were additionally rewarded with this brand new tune called “Kingdom Come”. Miss Tess and her band, The Talkbacks, brought her original “Classic country and honky-tonk, southern rhythm & blues, New Orleans jazz and swing, and sounds of swamp pop and early rock n’ roll music” to the Blue Plate stage. This tune, “I Can’t Help Myself” is on her latest release, “Baby, We All Know”. Previous description aside, Miss Tess is hard to categorize, and she says “Many times after the show somebody will come up to compliment the band and ask me what kind of music we just played. After mumbling through a few different genres I usually just tell them it’s my music and hope they enjoyed the show”.
The Talkbacks are Thomas Bryan Eaton on guitar (also co-producer of the new album), Geoff Henderson on bass, and Andrew Guterman on drums. Find out more about Miss Tess and her music at: http://www.misstessmusic.com/#home-se…

Guy Marshall is an Americana band from right here in East Tennessee that has rapidly gained a dedicated following, as well as rave reviews from the music press. Husband and wife team Adam and Serrenna McNulty make up the core of Guy Marshall, and regularly do shows with a cast of talented friends. Guy Marshall was Adam McNulty’s grandfather, and according to the band, Guy lived in a different America, and Adam writes songs of a time in which family and honor meant more. His songs hold stories inspired by Appalachian life, old country music, as well as true family stories. Their 2015 debut album is called “The Depression Blues”, and during this visit to the Blue Plate Special stage, Guy Marshall introduced a couple of brand new tunes, including this one, “John Wayne”. Helping out on fiddle (also from East Tennessee) is Frank Bronson – one of the talented friends referred to earlier. Find out more about Guy Marshall on their website at http://www.guymarshall.net/

The Way Down Wanderers brought their 5-piece modern-folk Americana act to the Blue Plate Special stage as they made their way to the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival. Front-men and founders, Austin Thompson and Collin Krause, met in their hometown of Peoria, IL when they joined the same folk band and embarked on their first tour at the ages of 14 and 18 years old. The two became fast friends and soon began writing music together, ultimately forming The Way Down Wanderers when Collin was 16 and Austin, 20 years old. The band’s debut, self-titled album has recently been released, and was produced by Mike Marsh of the Avett Brothers. The Way Down Wanderers closed their set on the Blue Plate Special with this energetic multi-song jam, which they call “Salt Creek”. Can you name all the tunes? (Check yourself below.) Dave Eggar recently visited the Blue Plate stage on his way to the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival. You’ll quickly see that our stage was not large enough for the whole entourage – and that Dave does not see that as a limitation! Dave Eggar is an artist who records in diverse genres and performs live in multiple musical categories, seamlessly moving between each, be it Pop, Rock, Jazz, R&B, New Age, World or Classical music. His ability to effortlessly blur the lines between any musical style is truly unique. This video is a perfect example, where Dave combines the timeless hymn “Amazing Grace” with the Allman Brothers’ classic “Soulshine”. We think you will agree that it is truly “amazing”.
