The Knox County Jug Stompers started out as friends jamming and sharing their love for jug and string band music, but quickly developed into a foot stompin’ full fledged jug band extravaganza. They are veteran performers (including The Blue Plate Special) and specialize in string band music from the 20’s and 30’s. They also write their own sting/jug band style tunes, including this one, “Momma Don’t Make Those Biscuits Anymore”. This song won the 2015 International Biscuit Festival Songwriting Competition. To prove that’s no fluke, the Jug Stompers also won the same competition in 2013 and 2014! This song is available on their 2015 release, “Rags, Stomps, and Biscuits”. LA- 14 is the highway that runs through Wright, and on this EP, Rod has a collection of songs with a variety of country, swampy, Cajun vibes that reflect his upbringing. The Knox County Jug Stompers are from right here in the foothills of East Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, and they are veterans of the Blue Plate Special stage. What started out as friends jamming and sharing their love for jug and string band music quickly developed into a foot stompin’ full fledged jug band extravaganza. This song, “Blue Ridge Mountain Blues”, was originally titled “Blue Ridge Blues” and was written by Cliff Hess in 1924 under the pseudonym of Cliff Carson. It was recorded as “Blue Ridge Blues” by blind musician George Reneau and Gene Austin in April of 1924. Roger Alan Wade was in town promoting his Lawn Chair Concert Series, and he stopped by the Blue Plate Special to share some of his tunes. Roger is from Chattanooga, and is well known for his entertaining live shows. He has penned songs for country legends such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Hank Williams, Jr. The song in this video, “Country State Of Mind” was a big hit for Hank, Jr. in 1986, and Roger puts his usual personal touches on it, much to the delight of the Blue Plate audience.
