An Extra Helping of the Blue Plate Special -Roy Book Binder “You Can’t Do That No More”

Roy Book Binder is the epitome of the singer/songwriter storytelling bluesman. He started playing music in 1965 and has not stopped yet. Book Binder travelled with the legendary Rev. Gary Davis in the late 60’s and played alongside such artists as Dave Van Ronk, Pink Anderson, and Arthur Big Boy Crudup, just to name a few. Roy stopped by the Blue Plate Special recently and shared stories about meeting and befriending Rev. Gary Davis, driving him on tour, and receiving guitar lessons from this blues legend. The original tune in this video, “The Preacher Picked The Guitar” was written as a tribute, and is more or less a history lesson from Roy’s personal perspective. This song was recorded by Jorma Kaukonen on his album “Stars In My Crown”. You can learn more about Roy Book Binder at and you can check out his latest album of all original tunes called “The Good Book”.
